Joseph Scott Baynard, Jr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. Joseph Scott Baynard, Jr., 80, of 1340 West Davis Street, Burlington died at the Hospice Home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013,  at 2:20 p.m.
A graveside service will be conducted at Magnolia Cemetery on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. by Dr. Ronald L. Shive.

Geneva Bell
LEXINGTON — Mary Geneva Barger Bell, 98, of Carolina House died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Carolina House.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the First Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 318 South State Street, Lexington, following a private burial service at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at the Family Life Center.

David L. “Davie” Blackburn
CHEROKEE — Mr. David Lee “Davie” Blackburn II, 41, of Cherokee, NC, died Monday, May 6, 2013. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Randolph Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service.


Joanne Sheffield Carter
ARCHDALE — Joanne Sheffield Carter of Archdale died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.  Born in High Point, she is a daughter of the late John F. Sheffield and Ora Leazer Sheffield.   Mrs. Carter was a personnel director with Kmart. She helped to open stores all over the southeast and retired after 35 years of service.  After her retirement, she worked part time with the city of Archdale Parks and Recreation Department.  Mrs. Carter is a member of Archdale United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class and was a Stephens Minister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robert “Tony” Anthony Carter and a sister Betty Moriarty.
Mrs. Carter is survived by three daughters, Joni Gillis and husband Jeff of Trinity, Jan Bouldin and Joy Lockhart both of Archdale.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Justin Carter, Lauren Carter, Ashley Carter, Bryant Gillis, Luke Gillis, Jordan Bouldin, Natalie Bouldin, Chance Lockhart and Anna Douglas and great grandchildren, Jacob Carter, Allie Carter, Harrison Gillis, and Toler Gosnell.  The family would like to thank all of her close special friends who she loved dearly. 
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Joanne Carter will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Archdale United Methodist Church. Members of the Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.  The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

DENTON — Mrs. Martha Katie Keith Hill, age 46, of Cabin Creek Dr., Denton, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday May 13 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Dorothy Lodoska Millikan Hodgin
JAMESTOWN — Dorothy Lodoska Millikan Hodgin, 89, of Jamestown, NC, went to be with her Lord on May 6, 2013.
Born January 8, 1924, she was the only child of the late J. Ralph Millikan and Eva Brackett Millikan. Dot was also predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Limon Monroe Hodgin; by two sons Craig and Gary, by stillborn twin daughters, Alicia and Patricia and by her maternal Aunt “Second Mom” Kate Brackett Cashatt.
Dot is survived by two granddaughters Paige L. Hodgin of Rock Hill, SC; Sherry L. Hodgin of Pineville, NC; three great-grandchildren Payne Hodgin Russell, Darby Ragin Russell and Katelyn Eva Acitelli. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Deloris Harris Hodgin of Charlotte, NC, and a sister-in-law Josephine  Hodgin Williams of Greensboro, NC.
Dot’s life was devoted to her family and the Jamestown community. She was an active longtime member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. She loved traveling, reading, solving crossword puzzles and enjoying a yummy banana split. She particularly treasured the family’s time-honored annual beach week.
Thanks go to Dot’s friends and church members who faithfully visited her, the staff at High Point Place Assisted Living, personal caregiver Peggy Byerly and to Hospice of the Piedmont. Special gratitude goes to her dear friend Lib Sechrest for her constant love and devotion through the fun times and the difficult times. She brought Dot many smiles.
The funeral service will be Saturday, 2:00 p.m.  May 11, 2013, at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Avenue in High Point with family visitation an hour before the service. Interment at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service.

TRINITY — Emmett G. Rushing, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2013. Cremation services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.

David Conrad Russell
CLEMMONS — David Conrad Russell, of Clemmons, died May 8, 2013, with his family by his side at the KB Reynolds Hospice Home.
He was born to the late Conrad Roy and Lora Black Russell in Thomasville, NC. David graduated from Thomasville High School and received a BS in Wildlife Biology from North Carolina State University. He married Eleanor Lively in 1988, and they lived together in Clemmons for 25 years.
David worked for NCDNR Division of Water Quality until he retired in 2008. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent most of his free time hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He was most devoted to his family, but loved baseball, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and building things with his hands. David was a lifetime member and the last charter member of the Luther Mountain Hunt Club.
David is survived his wife Eleanor Lively Russell and by two children: Kathleen Russell Willard and husband Rick of Clemmons and Conrad Taylor Russell of Clemmons. He is also survived by two sisters, Myra Russell Brooks and husband Rodger and Janice Gayle Russell and partner Lavonda Cody as well as one grandson, Brody Russell Willard.
A Memorial Service will be officiated by Hospice Chaplin, Brenda McCalop and held on May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Shallowford Presbyterian Church at 1200 Lewisville Clemmons Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Nina L. Williamson
HIGH POINT – Ms. Nina Louise Williamson (known as Louise), 86, died on May 4, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. She was born on April 2, 1927, in High Point, NC, to the late Robert Franklin Williamson Sr. and Mamie Lee Rush Williamson.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Franklin Williamson Jr., and Walter Julius Williamson; and one nephew, Thomas Franklin Williamson.
Louise was a teacher who graduated from Winston-Salem Teacher’s College in 1948 and earned graduate credit from University of Kansas City in 1959. She also worked 35 years as a clerk for the United States Department of Treasury where she received the Albert Gallatin Award for distinguished service. Her calm demeanor and sharp wit will be deeply mourned and missed by her many relatives and friends.
Louise belonged to St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church. 
Those left to cherish her memories are one sister, Bertha Williamson of High Point, NC; one brother, Charles Edward (Violet) Williamson, Sr. of Willingboro, NJ; one nephew, Dr. Charles Edward Williamson, Jr.; two nieces, Deborah Terese Williamson Gainer, Marcia Louise Williamson Adams; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Avenue. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point, NC.
