Leroy Jackson Byerly
LEXINGTON — Mr. Leroy Jackson Byerly, 86, of 1738 Friendship Church Road passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Byerly was born March 18, 1927, to Joseph Fred and Sina Fishel Byerly. Mr. Byerly was a retired machinist from Dakota Mills and a member of Reeds Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and treasurer. Mr. Byerly enjoyed farming, fixing everything, and joking. He never met a stranger.
He was married to Carrie Morphis Byerly for 55 years who preceded him in death, along with a son Charles Leroy Byerly. He is survived by two daughters, Carol Myers (Evan) of Winston Salem and Cathy Byerly of Mocksville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Alisa Myers Henderson (Mike) and Charles Myers; two great grandchildren Brian and Caroline Henderson all of Winston Salem; and a very special friend Marilyn Hill of Clemmons.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 30th at Reeds Baptist Church at 4 p.m. by Rev. Keith Edwards and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday night, April 29th, at Davidson Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the daughter’s respective homes.

HIGH POINT — Evelyn L. Drake, 88, died April 28, 2013 at Piedmont Crossing.

John “Mack” Parrish
ARCHDALE — John “Mack” Maxion Parrish, 81, of Archdale/Trinity, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem.
Mack was born June 7, 1931 to James and Hessie Parrish. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Edna Lawson. Known as a “Mr. Fix-It”, he loved cars and the early days of NASCAR racing. He was also well known as a great storyteller. Mack will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife and daughter, Joy Jackson.
Mack is survived by children, Mackie Parrish and wife Janice of Hudson, NC, Kathy Bunn and husband Richard of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Keith Parrish and wife Ann of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Robert Parrish, John Parrish, Mark Jackson, Melissa Jackson, Matthew Bunn, and Aaron Bunn; 4 great grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, April 30th at 2 p.m. at Floral Garden Memorial Park, High Point with Reverend Tim Porter officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of The GrayBrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, High Point Regional Hospital, Select Specialty Hospital of Winston Salem, and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their kind and loving care of Mack.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Opal Morris Pittman of Thomasville went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, April 27th at 2:58 p.m. while her son Gene was at her side.
Opal was born in Davidson County, Sept. 29, 1924 to Carly L. Morris and Julia Hughes Morris. Residing in the Denton and Thomasville areas and enjoying a happy childhood, Opal attended Hasty Elementary and Denton High School.
Most of her work life was spent at Carolina Underwear and Kayby Mills in Thomasville. She was an accomplished seamstress whom the company sent to Canada to train their Canadian employees. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family in many of our great states and on of her favorite destinations for any season was our North Carolina mountains.
She was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Mildred Farmer of Georgia and Wilma Palmer of Thomasville, and one son Terry Lee Pittman of Rio Vista, California who is survived by his wife Nina.
Opal is survived by one brother, Kenneth C. Morris and wife Carolee of Southport; a very special nephew, Marks A. Farmer and wife Fonda of Thomasville; a son Gene Michael Pittman and wife Connie of Trinity; grandchildren, Donna Pittman Koontz and husband Kenneth of Welcome, Ronald Wayne Pittman and wife Jackie of Wake Forest, Michael Lee Pittman and wife Wanda of Thomasville, Michael Allen Pittman of San Francisco and Angela Lynn Pittman of Asheboro; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Emanuel Reformed Church, where she was a long standing member, with Rev. Rickey Payne and Rev. Jeremy Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery beside her parents.
Mrs. Pittman will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church sanctuary. Online condolences may be sent to the Pittman family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.

Mildred Muriel Stafford
OAK RIDGE — Mildred Muriel Stafford, 91, was removed from her earthly garden on April 27, 2013.
Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 11:00AM Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel in Kernersville with Dr. Ricky Hamann officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
A native of Guilford County, “Merle” was born May 30, 1921 to the late Annie Lou King Tucker and Henry Clay Tucker. She will be truly missed by all her family and loved ones, but especially her now sad dog “Dunhill”.
In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her loving husband Harley Stafford, sisters Opal Simmons and Ersell Mills, and brothers Nellis Tucker and Tommy Tucker.
Survivors include daughters Ann Nichols of Kernersville and Patricia Stafford of Colfax; sons Gary Stafford and wife Sharon of Colfax and Ricky Stafford of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters Cora Pegram, Thelma Atchison, Mary Stack, and Betty Robinson.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
