LEXINGTON — Robert William “Bob” Spittel, 63, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday Jan., 18, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

WINSTON-SALEM — Rudy John Sliwa, 43, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

James Larry Pugh
HIGH POINT — James Larry Pugh, 66, of High Point, passed away on Jan. 13, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of Worth Roland Pugh and Margaret Lucille Joyce Pugh. He formally owned and operated Cloverdale Nursing Home in High Point.
Survivors include his children, Jane Pugh (Jamie), Jan Butner (Todd) and James Larry Pugh II (Sara) ; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Donnie, Michael and Robert Pugh and a sister, Joan Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant brother, Ronald.
No formal services will be held.

Larry Jackson (Jack) Reeves Sr.
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Larry Jackson (Jack) Reeves Sr., 67, a resident of Rosedale Drive, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. He was born April 17, 1946, in Guilford County, a son of Floyd Jackson Reeves and Genevieve (Bea) Hodges Reeves. He was a truck driver for Hughes Supply of Thomasville. Mr. Reeves was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Reeves.
Surviving are daughters, Cheryl Reeves and partner David Shambley of Carolina Beach, N.C., Lisa Reeves and fiancé Noel Waldon and Angie Southland and husband Bobby, both of Wilmington, N.C.; sons, Larry Jackson Reeves Jr. and wife Debra of Wilmington, N.C. and Rob Reeves and partner Annette Winner of Carolina Beach, N.C.; a sister, Pat Burchett and husband Sonny of Thomasville; brothers, Dennis Hodges and wife Angela of Wallburg, N.C. and Eddie Hodges of High Point; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 2 p.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from noon until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be directed to the Carolina Beach Inlet Association, 108 Georgia Ave., Carolina Beach, N.C. 28428.

LEXINGTON — Jay Brian Clodfelter, 76, of Lexington died Tuesday at Forsyth Medical Center.

Elizabeth (Beth) Stanley Betts
HIGH POINT — Elizabeth (Beth) Stanley Betts 38, a former resident of High Point, N.C., passed away from a sudden heart attack, on Dec. 2, 2013, at her home in Waynesboro, Miss.
Survivors are her parents Lloyd and Pamela Stanley; brother Michael Stanley all of High Point; son Trevor Pleasant of Burlington; husband Joseph Betts;  step-son Aaron Betts; step-daughter Michaela Betts all of Waynesboro, Miss.; two nephews Wyatt and Tyler Stanley.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s UMC, Jamestown, N.C., on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy’s UMC, directed to Emergency Assistance Fund.

Frank Eaddy Jr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Frank Eaddy Jr., 66, of Pageland, S.C. died on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at CMC Union Hospital, Monroe, N.C. Arrangements are incomplete with People’s Funeral & Cremation Services.

Michael Edward Turner
LINWOOD — Michael Edward Turner, Sr. 55, of Linwood passed away on Jan. 14, 2014, at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington. Michael was born on July 7, 1958, in Charlotte, son of Sylvia Simpson Taylor and step-father James, and the late Ralph Ottoway Turner, Sr.
Michael was Store Director of Harris Teeter in High Point.  He attended the Refuge Church in Concord. Michael enjoyed playing golf and loved the Carolina Panthers.
Michael is survived by his wife, Marie Overla Turner; sons, Michael Edward Turner, Jr. and Brandon Turner both of Hendersonville.  Daughter, Stephanie Turner King and husband Mark of Augusta, Ga.; step son, Brandt Yokeley of Lexington; brother, Ralph O. Turner and wife Connie and sister, Julie Finney all of Hendersonville.  Grandsons, Isaac Turner and Jaiden Yokeley.
There will be Memorial Service on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville, conducted by Rev. Michael Bowers, Pastor.

Mozelle Burton Hayworth
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Hattie Mozelle Burton Hayworth, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Westchester Harbour. She was born on April 5, 1920, the daughter of Weldon Burton and Katie Veach Burton. She worked as cafeteria manager at Ledford School and Sweet Shoppe Bakery in High Point. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher.  She also sang in the choir and was a member of United Methodist Women. She loved to cook for the October breakfast. She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. She married Charlie Baxter “Spike’ Hayworth who preceded her in death on March 8, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Saintsing and husband Archie of Thomasville, and Betty Nifong and husband Larry of High Point; one brother, Henry “Tip” Burton and wife Helen of Greensboro; grandchildren, Chip Nifong and wife Ashley of Hampstead, NC, Todd Nifong and wife Sallie of High Point, and Dean Saintsing and wife Beth of High Point; great-grandchildren, Jordan Saintsing, Jared Saintsing, Larry Nifong III, and Mazie Nifong.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. A private family interment service will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the committal and at their respective homes.  The body will remain at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour before the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mt. Karen Pierce
THOMASVILLE — Karen Pierce, age 63, died Sunday, Jan. 12, at her residence in Thomasville, following a brief battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of the High Point area, Karen was born June 29, 1950, a daughter of Marion Jackson and Mary Ellen Steelman Swaim. She developed many friendships in High Point through her years of employment with Business Communications and most recently with Sir Pizza. She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving, in addition to her mother Mary Swaim Hunt of Pine Level, are her daughter, Ketura Marion and her husband Joe of Summerfield; and her three grandchildren Jackson, Grace and Claire, who affectionately called her “Mimi.”
Also surviving are three sisters, Katrina Winfrey (Darren) of Thomasville, Kathy Hunt of Greensboro and Kelly Shamlin of Pine Level, a brother, Brad Swaim (Tina) of Sanford, and her nieces and nephews; Kourtney Shelar, Dylan Winfrey, Kassady Winfrey and Zhonna-tae Swaim.
To celebrate Karen’s life, the family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the Life Tribute Center at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

Essie Mae Jordan 
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Essie Mae Jordan, 90, of High Point died on Jan. 3, 2014.  She was born in Union County, S.C.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, 2014, at People’s Funeral Chapel with Minister Timothy Simmons, officiating.
Family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the chapel. Professional arrangements entrusted to People’s Funeral & Cremation Services.

Elbert (Sam) Lee Hopkins
ARCHDALE — Mr. Elbert (Sam) Lee Hopkins, 71, resident of 2611 Boulder Ct. died Tuesday in the High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Hopkins was born May 23, 1942, in Durham. He had been a resident of Archdale and vicinity most of his life and was retried from Amerifab Inc. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. An outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Hopkins was a faithful member of the Cloverdale Church of the Living God and served in the primary and junior class. He was married to Lucille Watkins Hopkins who survives of the home.
Also surviving are four daughters; Mrs. Sue Church of Sparta, Mrs. Cindy Ferguson of Thomasville, Ms. Lisa Hopkins of Sophia and Mrs. Tina Williams and husband Larry of Sophia; two sons; Steven Lee Hopkins and wife Tina of Sophia and Tommy Hopkins of High Point; one sister; Mrs. Judy Rollins and husband Everett of Sophia; two brothers; Larry Hopkins and wife Elsie of Sophia and Mike Vanhoy and wife Pat of Sophia; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by mother and step-father; Mary Hopkins Vanhoy and James Vanhoy and also a son; Steven Craig Hopkins Sr.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Cloverdale Church of the Living God by the Rev. David Perry. Interment will follow in the Marlboro Friends Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cloverdale Church of the Living God, 2502 Surrett Dr. Archdale, N.C. 27263 and at other times at the home of the daughter;  Mrs. Tina Williams, 4448 Edgar Rd. Sophia, N.C.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Jordon, and Jeremiah Watts, Dennis and Craig Hopkins and Christopher Lee.

August Joseph (Augie) Bellardine, Sr.
TRINITY — Mr. August Joseph “Augie” Bellardine, Sr. of Trinity passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in the Hospice Home of High Point following a long illness.
Mr. Bellardine was born March 1, 1927, in Oswego, N.Y. to Oresto and Asunta Martini Bellardini. Service to his country was his career, having served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict and in the US Army during Vietnam, where he was a decorated veteran. Mr. Bellardine was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the International Club of the church.  He was a member of the Elks, the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and two daughters; Paula Ann Bellardine Hunter and Marianne Bellardine. On Aug. 3, 1956, he married Frances Brougher who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons: August Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va. and Michael Bellardine of Trinity; and two brothers, Francis of Pulaski, N.Y. and Ernest Bellardine of Oswego, N.Y.  Mr. Bellardine had two grandchildren; August III of Duck, N.C. and Heather Bellardine of Richmond, Ky. and three great-grandchildren; Madison and Ashlyn Bellardine of Richmond, Ky. and Leah Bellardine of Duck, N.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Reverend Fr. Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S. will officiate. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Space of the Church on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.  Interment with full military honors will be held Thursday, Jan. 23 at noon in the Ft. Benning Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, Ga. Following the interment, the family will host a reception at the Elks Lodge.
