Tyler Bivens
ASHEBORO — Tyler Ray Bivens, 60, of Asheboro, died Jan. 11, 2014.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.

Betty Lou Cannon
THOMASVILLE – Betty Lou Rickard Cannon, 82, died Jan. 13, 2014, in Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. 
A funeral service will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Brown New Calvary Baptist Church. S.E. Thomas Funeral & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Neal Coltrane
ARCHDALE — Mrs. Frances Neal Coltrane, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 14th, 2014, at her home in Archdale. 
She was born in Guilford County on Sept. 6th, 1925, to James Vergill and Ethel Miles Neal.
She loved her church and was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting for over 60 years.  In 1982 she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Coltrane.  They were married for 34 years.  In 1989 she was preceded by her second husband, Nixon Hill of Archdale.
Surviving are her two daughters, Peggy Coltrane Tilley and husband Jimmy of Archdale and Jean Coltrane Buie and husband David of Archdale; four grandchildren, Lloyd Wilson, Shanda Hardister, Travis Shelar and Mary Fields; and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was cherished by all who knew her and her sense of humor will be missed by all.  The family would like to thank all the special care givers that helped take care of our mother, especially Darla McDonald of Asheboro.
A celebration of her life will be held at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting on Thursday, January 16th at 2 p.m. with Dr. Brian Donley officiating.  Interment will follow in the Meeting Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  Memorials may be directed to United Hospice Foundation, 902 West D. Cheryl Smith Harrison
RALEIGH — Cheryl Smith Harrison, 50, of Raleigh died Saturday Jan. 11, 2014.
She was born in Tokyo, Japan, to Col. Dale Smith and Edith Marie Hildebran Smith.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held on 2 p.m. Saturday Jan. 18, 2014, at Umstead Park United Church of Christ, 8208 Brownleigh Drive Raleigh, NC 27617.
Cheryl grew up in High Point, NC and graduated from High Point Central High School in 1981. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1985 and a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from NC State University in 1989. She worked as a veterinarian and taught at NC State University as well as Wake Technical Community College. After the birth of her son, Cheryl changed her life goals toward her passion for art.
She pursued her enthusiasm for art at Meredith College and NC State University’s College of Design. She was finishing up her Masters of Art and Design from NC State with a focus in fibers, surface design, and textile collage illustration. She was an accomplished painter, fiber artist, and recently published children’s book author. Her art conveyed the importance of human-animal relations and the need to preserve and protect the natural world. She also enjoyed performing music through singing in local a cappella groups, choirs, and a family bluegrass band. She was known for her kind and generous spirit toward every living being, and no creature went away hungry from her backyard.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Lee Harrison; son, Robby Harrison of Raleigh; brother, Dennis Smith and wife Katherine of Austin, TX; sister; Kathryn Drake and husband Frank of Wake Forest.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.

HIGH POINT — Larry Wayne James, 65, died at his home.

James Larry Pugh
HIGH POINT — James Larry Pugh, 66, of High Point, passed away on Jan. 13, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of Worth Roland Pugh and Margaret Lucille Joyce Pugh. He formally owned and operated Cloverdale Nursing Home in High Point.
Survivors include his children, Jane Pugh (Jamie), Jan Butner (Todd) and James Larry Pugh II; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Donnie, Michael and Robert Pugh and a sister, Joan Davis.
No formal services will be held. Williams Funeral & Cremation Services in Burlington, NC is assisting the family.

HIGH POINT – Joe Eddie Robbins Jr., 63, died Jan. 12, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital.

James Lee Seay Sr.
RALEIGH — James Lee Seay Sr. 85, a resident of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014.
“Jim” was born June 3rd, 1928, in Salisbury NC and graduated from Spencer High School in 1944. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University in 1948 and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1952 where he was a member of Delta Theta Phi Law fraternity. Jim served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1952 until 1955 as a Captain in the artillery.
He had a long and distinguished career practicing law in the Wake county area and throughout NC for 57 years and was senior partner with Pat Horne of the Seay and Horne Law firm. His industry affiliations included being a member of the NC State Bar, the NC State Bar Association and he was a former President of the Wake County Bar Association.
Mr. Seay was predeceased by his parents Dr. Thomas Waller Seay and wife Inez of Spencer, NC and his sister Ruth Austin. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Murdock Seay of the home, his brother The Honorable Thomas Waller Seay Jr. and his wife Patty of Spencer NC, and four children James L. Seay Jr. and wife Mary Ellen of Wilmington NC, Helen Congdon and her husband David of High Point NC, Thomas M. Seay of Raleigh NC, and Robert A. Seay and his wife Lora of Greensboro NC. He was known and loved as “Paw Paw” by his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
“Jim” will be remembered by all his family and friends for his intelligence, good heartedness, and friendliness. He was a loyal and dedicated family man who loved traveling, going to the beach, golfing, fishing, and watching sports. He especially enjoyed good conversations with with his family and friends and will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Parsons of Raleigh for his many years of outstanding care and concern. We are thankful for the excellent care he received from the doctors, nurses, staff and Sisters of Pennybyrn, as well as Dr. Darryl Kalil and Dr. Kenneth Lennon of High Point NC. We are also grateful for the heartfelt love and support he received from his Visiting Angels, especially Cindy, Mardee, and Sheila.
The memorial service officiated by Dr. Craven E. Williams will begin at 11:00 am, Thursday January 16th, 2014 at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. 27612
Visitation with the family will precede the memorial service from 9:30am until 11:00 am. A burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park.
