William Eugene (Gene) Hughes

TRINITY — Mr. William Eugene (Gene) Hughes of Randolph County passed away on June 18, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC.

He was born in Randolph County on August 30, 1924, the son of Charles Ross and Mary Alice Hughes Hughes, both now deceased. Gene was a member of Westfield Baptist Church. He proudly served our country during World War II, fighting in the European Theater under General George S. Patton as a member of the 3rd Army, 10th Armored Division. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries January 1, 1987, after 30 years of service. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Evelyn Dougan; a son, Douglas Michael (Bo) Hughes; a sister Margaret Kinney; brothers Ralph Hughes and Ed Hughes.

He is survived by his son, Johnny Eugene Hughes and wife Rhonda of Altamonte Springs, FL., daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Paradis and husband Ed of Zebulon, NC; his brother, Richard Hughes and wife Patsy of Trinity, NC. Gene is also survived by three grandchildren, John Hughes and wife Amy of Tallahassee, FL, Cristy Hughes and Dylan Hughes of Asheboro, NC and four great-grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel, Lindsay and Melody. Gene was blessed with loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Services will be held at Westfield Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Garry Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Gene was a loving father, grandfather, brother, great-grandfather and uncle who loved his country, family, woodworking and gardening. One of his greatest pleasures was chatting with friends.


June Wilson Kennedy Huneycutt

HIGH POINT — Mrs. June Wilson Kennedy Huneycutt, 76, a resident of 1568 Skeet Club Rd., formerly of Ferndale Dr., Thomasville, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Hospice Home of High Point. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.


Bobby Kale, Jr. 

HIGH POINT — Bobby G. Kale Jr., 57, of High Point NC, left this earth June 19, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in York, SC, on July 17, 1955, to Bob and Jerrean Kale. He graduated from Clover High School and attended Kings College in Charlotte, NC. He owned a business called The Installers in High Point NC.

Bobby was a devoted father, brother, son, husband and grandfather and loved to spend time with his numerous friends and family. He traveled extensively with his business and enjoyed seeing the country and the Virgin Islands. Bobby enjoyed woodworking and building furniture in his spare time. He truly delighted in making people smile and worked hard to keep everyone he encountered on his journey in good spirits.

Bobby is preceded in death by his sister Vanessa Jean Henkel and his father Bobby Gene Kale Sr. He is survived by his wife Cindy Kale, his children Charles Benjamin Kale and Brandi K. Glasspoole (Andrew Glasspoole) as well as his stepchildren Amanda Robinson and Scott Robinson. He is also survived by his sister Julie Preston (John Preston), his mother Jerrean Kale and his grandchildren Charles Stanley Kale, Henley Glasspoole, Parker Glasspoole, Brianna McKnight, Amber McKnight, Caleb Robinson, and Jaykob Robinson. He will be missed greatly by numerous family members and special friends.

A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 22, 2013, at Greater Life Ministry, with the Rev. Milton Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Filbert, SC. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday June 21, 2013, at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Clover, SC.

Lawrence H. Lyndon

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Lawrence H. Lyndon, 83, a resident of Yowe Drive, died Tuesday morning, June 18, 2013, in High Point Regional Hospital. He was born April 11, 1930, in Davidson County, a son of J.E. Lyndon and Annie Thornburg Lyndon. Mr. Lyndon was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with AT&T Telecommunications in Greensboro, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a former member of the Fair Grove Lions Club, where he served as past president. Mr. and Mrs. Lyndon where former volunteers with the Davidson County Meals on Wheels Program. He was a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church, the Christian Fellowship Class, a former member of the choir, administrative board and board of trustees.

He was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Maleta Ann and a sister, Luna Gray Summers.

On April 4, 1953, he was married to Nancy Tysinger, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Candy Thompson and husband Roger of Thomasville; a son, Andy Lyndon and wife Angela of Thomasville; grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Abby Thompson, Katie Thompson, Kaitlyn Lyndon, Thornburg “Thorn” Lyndon, Ashlyn Lyndon and Wayne Lyndon; a sister, Loreen Barry of Thomasville and a brother, Leon Lyndon.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Mike Burris officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Leanne White Payne

WINSTON-SALEM — Ms. Leanne White Payne, 47, died Tuesday morning, June 18, 2013, in Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 31, 1965, in Guilford County, the daughter of J. Harold White and Sandra Brower White.

She was preceded in death by her mother, grandmother Peggy Brower, and her husband Tim Payne.

Surviving are a daughter, Kerri Johnson and husband Nathaniel; her father, J. Harold White; granddaughter Layla Johnson and unborn grandson, Lincoln Johnson; her grandmother, Virginia White Dorsett; grandfather, Cliff Brower; aunt, Pat Wilkins and her boyfriend Keith Hawks.

Sylvia Grey Tate

HIGH POINT — Miss Sylvia Grey Tate, 83, a resident of Westchester Manor, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at High Point Regional following several years of declining health.

Sylvia was born in High Point, December 19, 1929, a daughter of the late John B. Tate and Lola Frances Diamond Tate. She worked at Anvil-Brand for 23 years and retired from Thomas Mfg. after 17 years of service. She was an active member of Sandy Ridge Alliance Church, formerly Christ Community Church, as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Smith, three half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Surviving are two brothers, Doug Tate of Huron, OH, and Roger Tate and wife Marilyn of High Point, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by the Rev. Jeffrey Palmer. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. Memorials may be directed to her church or the charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westchester Manor for their loving care of Sylvia the past four years.


James Thomas

JAMESTOWN — James Thomas, 66, went to eternal peace on June 18, 2013, at High Point Regional UNC Healthcare. He was born on March 7, 1947, in Marlboro County, SC, to the late William A. Rainey, Sr. and Alice C. Rainey. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William A. Rainey, Jr.

Mr. Thomas retired from Goodyear after 33 years of service in 2006. He enjoyed working on cars, gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. He always enjoyed having everyone over for a family cookout. He was strong in his faith and had a deep love of God.

He leaves behind to share his memories, two daughters, Camilla Abrams and Katherine (Melvin) Ealey; two sons, Ulysses Welch and James (Sharon) Thomas Jr.; six sisters Helen Jones, Sissy (Jerry) Nance, Brenda (John) Green, Margaret (Ricky) Rainey, Linda (Donald) Robinson, Connie (Darryl) Tillman; three brothers, Buster Lee (Jackie) Rainey, Calvin (Christine) Rainey and Keith Rainey as well as a special friend, Linda Scales. He cherished the relationships he had with his host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave.

Deborah Bingham Ward

EIDSON, Tenn. — Deborah Bingham Ward, age 58, passed away on June 14, 2013, at her home in Eidson, Tennessee.

She was born September 11, 1954, to her mother, Shirley Sentell Bingham and the late Turner Bingham, in Brevard, NC.

Deb was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family and friends dearly.

Deb worked as a Veterinarian Technician for more than 25 years. Most of her service in animal care was at Southgate Veterinary Clinic in Thomasville, NC. She loved caring for all animals large and small, and always went above and beyond to provide for their health care needs. Deb was loved and respected by all who knew her. She retired in 2001 due to health reasons.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years: Michael Ward (SFC ret.); mother: Shirley Sentell Brown of Trinity, NC; daughter: Holly and her husband Ryan Lackey; granddaughter: Ally Houston; grandson: Kenney Houston of Ramseur, NC; sister: Wanda and her husband Steven Stutts of Thomasville, NC; and nephew: Craig Stutts of Raleigh, NC.

She was preceded in death by her son: Kenney Bingham Brown; father: Turner Bingham; step-father: Julian W. Brown.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at English Road Baptist Church, 1111 English Road, High Point, North Carolina, with the memorial service to follow at 1:15 p.m. for those who wish to attend.

Irene Orman Yokley

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Irene Orman Yokley, 92, died June 18, 2013. She was born July 18, 1920, to the late Lester and Arminta Orman. She was a graduate of Pilot High School and a member of the Lexington Church of Christ. On May 20, 1939, she married Clyde D. Yokley who preceded her in death on January 11, 2013. Surviving is a daughter, Elaine Y. Davis and her husband Terry of Matthews, NC; two granddaughters, Shannon D. Luce and her husband Tony of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Amy D. Oswalt and her husband Shane of Chattanooga, TN; a brother, L.H. Orman and his wife Elaine of Thomasville. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 12 p.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville by Robert Goff and Brock Shanks. The family will receive friends at J.C.
