George C. Gideon
HIGH POINT — George C. Gideon, 89, of 213 Woodbury Street, died on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Johnson and Sons, High Point, is assisting the family.

Ruth S. Whitesell
JAMESTOWN — Ruth S. Whitesell, 96, died September 28, 2013. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.

Douglas Wayne “JD” Roberts, Sr.
ARCHDALE — Douglas Wayne “JD” Roberts, Sr., 68, of Archdale, died September 27, 2013.
Wayne was born September 10, 1945, in Washington County, VA, to George Wayne Roberts and Lula May Parks Roberts. A truck driver for most of his life, he loved trucking and enjoyed fishing. Above all that, he loved his Lord, his family, and his church family more than anything. He was a member of Gospelway Baptist Church. On January 10, 1965, he married the love of his life, Edyth Faye Puckett Roberts, who survives of the home. Wayne was preceded in death by sons, Douglas Wayne Roberts, Jr. and Scott Lyn Roberts, Sr., and daughter, Sheila Gaye Roberts. He was also preceded in death by father, George Wayne Roberts, and sisters Sandy Roberts and Carol Nunn.
In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his mother, Lula May Roberts; son, Christopher Dale Roberts and wife Becky of Archdale; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Gospel Way Baptist Church, Archdale, with Wayne’s good friend, Pastor Danny McMahan officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery, Thomasville. The family will receive friends Monday, September 30, 2013, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the family home.
Donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.

Tony Craven
KERNERSVILLE — Mr. Tony Richard Craven, 64, of Crosspointe Lane, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was born November 18, 1948, in Davidson County to the late Samuel Lewis and Mildred Sink Craven. Tony was a Project Clarifier for VP Buildings in Greensboro.
Surviving is his wife, Deborah H. Craven of the home; brothers, Sammy Craven or Thomasville and Jerry Craven of Denton; sister, Ruby Bowers (Benny) of Thomasville; mother in-law, Jean Hildreth; father in-law, William Hildreth; and brother in-law, Wynn Hildreth.
Mr. Craven will lie in state at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N. NC Highway 109, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today, Monday, September 30, 2013. Family and friends may visit and pay their respects during these hours. Interment will follow Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Forsyth Memorial Park. There will be no formal services. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262, Humane Society of Forsyth County, 61 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, or to the SPCA of the Triad, 3163 Hines Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC 27405.
