Walter Eugene Anderson Jr.
HIGH POINT — Walter Eugene Anderson, Jr., better known to family members and friends as W.E. or “Dub,” passed away at his home at the age of 90 on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda Smoot Anderson on September 20, 2012 after nearly 70 years of marriage.
Mr. Anderson was born in High Point on July 15, 1923. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After retiring from a career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1979, he found pleasure in a second 34-year career operating his own picture framing business. Mr. Anderson joined Green Street Baptist Church at the age of 23, and served the church in many leadership roles, including that of lifetime deacon. He was a quiet, humble family man with a dry wit, a strong work ethic and a fiercely independent spirit.
Mr. Anderson is survived by a daughter, Cathy Edwards and her husband Bill, of Apopka, Fl; a son, Dennis Anderson of Bedford Hills, NY with partner, Bill Sofield; a granddaughter, Jennifer W. Edwards and husband, Josh of Jacksonville, FL. and three great granddaughters, Palmer, Caroline, and Leighton Edwards; a sister Grace Dyer of Ames, IA.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Wanda, he is predeceased by his sisters, Ellen Towery, Dorothy (Dot) Curlee, Vera Curlee and Beulah Lee Anderson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. at Green Street Baptist Church, 303 Rotary Dr., High Point Wednesday, Sept. 18th, with the Rev. Frank Hensley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held in the church foyer prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Floral Garden Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial gifts be given to Green Street Baptist Church and designated for Missions or to any other designation or cause significant to the donor and their relationship to the deceased and his family.
LEXINGTON — Reba Carol Bryan, 58, of Brookstone Retirement Center, died Sept. 15, 2013, at the retirement center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
ASHEBORO — Richard Henry Gibbs, 66, of Asheboro, died Sept. 14, 2013.
A funeral service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ulah Church of God.
Nellie B. Hemric
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Nellie B. Hemric, 93, of Augusta, GA, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.
Nellie was born June 18, 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard V. Hemric, her daughter, Janice Shean, and son, Darrell G. Hemric.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at 12 pm at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
NEW LONDON — Eula Myers Hughes, 87, of New London, died Sept. 15, 2013 at Pine Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Thomasville.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Farmer Baptist Church.
LEXINGTON — Randall Patrick McCoy, 16, of South N.C. 150, Linwood, died Sept. 15, 2013.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Arrangements by Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
The Rev. Rufus Newlin
HIGH POINT — The Rev. Rufus Kenneth Newlin, 69, of 810 Mark St. in High Point, died Sept. 15, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Johnson and Sons, High Point, is assisting the family.
THOMASVILLE — Infant Kinsley Lynn Teer died September 14th, 2013 at Thomasville Medical Center.
She was born that same day to her parents, Jeremy and Brooke Teer. Also surviving is her grandparents, Amy Teer, Mark Barnes and Michelle Barnes; great grandparents, Dwight Teer, Sarah Hicks and husband Gary, Robert Barnes, Bobbie Barnes, Jessie Wilkins and Linda Wilkins; great-great grandparents, Margaret Yarborough and Susan Barnes; uncles, Jalen Mouzon and Zachary Barnes; and aunts, Jordan Teer and Abigail Barnes.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. John Bishop officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com.
HIGH POINT — Edna Louise Cole Tuttle, 91, formerly of High Point, died Sept. 16, 2013 in Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
