LEXINGTON — Gary Winton Cain, 66, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in Hinkle Hospice House. A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Love of God Baptist Church in Thomasville. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.


Clifton H. Calhoun

HIGH POINT — Clifton H. Calhoun, 46, of High Point, entered into Heaven on Monday, August 12, 2013.

Born March 17, 1967, in Tazewell County, Virginia, Clifton spent his life as a caregiver for many of his beloved family members. He worked for several years as a diesel mechanic for Guy M. Turner and had the ability to fix anything. On August 30, 1996, he married the love of his life and best friend, Debbie. Clifton will most be remembered for the immense amount of love he had for his family. He was preceded in death by father, James Ronald Calhoun; grandparents, James and Pauline Calhoun and Anthony and Eva Wolford; and in-laws, Bill and Cindy Taylor.

Clifton is survived by his wife, of the home; mother and stepfather, Lucy and Steve Bennett of Charlottesville, VA; sisters, Rhonda Stiltner and husband Johnny of Abingdon, VA, Chastity Branch and husband Carl of Charlottesville, VA; brother-in-law Bill Taylor and wife Christine of Asheboro; 10 nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; one great-great niece; and beloved dog Zeva.

A celebration of Clifton’s life will be held on Friday, August 16, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Jeanette Robertson and Rodney Wolford officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 15, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

HIGH POINT — Dee Wallace (D.W.) Dunn, 64, died Saturday, Aug 10, 2013, at her residence in Asheboro. A celebration of life service is pending.


Mary Louise Embry Herman

THOMASVILLE — Mary Louise Embry Herman, 84, of Thomasville slipped peacefully into eternal life Aug. 10, 2013, surrounded by family and loved ones. Our beloved angel finally has her wings.

Mary was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Davidson County to Elmer Crawford and Virginia Lousie Tobin Embry, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded by husbands Thomas John Jolly Sr. and Hughes Leonard Herman; a beloved sister, Annie Ruth Grubb; a grandson, Thomas Kelly Fillingame; and one great-grandson, Ryan Chase Clodfelter.

Left to cherish Mary’s memories are a sister, Nancy (Bud) Perdue; and a brother Wayne Embry. Also surviving are six children, Larry Eugene Jolly (Melinda) of Panama City, FL, Brenda Carol Hicks and Thomas John Jolly Jr. (Diane) both of Lexington, NC, Wanda Sharon Fillingame (Florentino) of Ravenel, SC, Patrick Stephen Herman (Sheila) of Thomasville, NC, and Jeffrey Scott Herman (Deana) of Buies Creek, NC; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and cousins, nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, High Point Ward. She was a Sunday School and children’s primary teacher and diligently performed work at various temples. She had many various positions within the church over the years.

The family wishes to thank WFUBMC Neurosurgery Department and all the support staff for their diligent efforts and excellent care of our loved one. We also thank Triad Cremation Society for their assistance in fulfilling Mary’s final wishes.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday August 17 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1830 Chestnut St. High Point. Bishop David Hall will officiate with Stake President Scott Fischer presiding. Interment will be in Panama City, FL, at a later date.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made in Mary’s name to the American Cancer Society or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints High Point Ward Humanitarian Effort fund.


Joyce Gallimore Ingram

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Joyce Gallimore Ingram, 64, a resident of 212 Moore Street, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Thomasville Medical Center. She was born on September 12, 1948, in Davidson County, NC, to Charles Colon Gallimore and Edna Waisner Gallimore. She was employed as a secretary at Hill Hosiery Mill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Sheffield.

On April 8, 1988, she married Tommy Junior Ingram, who survives of the home; also surviving are a step-son, Eric Ingram and wife Pam of Wallburg; sister, Hilda Atwood and husband Dale of Thomasville; brother, Jimmy Gallimore and wife Diane of Thomasville; 3 step-grandchildren, Marina Ingram, E.J. Ingram, and Abby Ingram; and four nieces, Alice Whitesell, Tammy Darnell, Stephanie Atwood, and Megan Atwood.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to


Wayne Loflin, Sr.

SOPHIA — Wayne Loflin, passed away at his home on August 13, 2013, after a period of declining health. He was born in the Edgar area of Sophia on September 28, 1927, to Alva E. and Ethel Davis Loflin. He lived in Sophia all his life except for duty in the US Army when he was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.

Wayne lovingly worked the dairy farm his father had established even after his retirement. He continued to help his son and grandson in an advisory capacity after he was no longer able to leave his home. He served on many farm-related boards and was on the board for the Sophia Fire Department from its inception until his death.

As President of the 1944 class of Randleman High School, he “shared” planning duties for the many reunions he so enjoyed. He loved airplanes and substitute airplanes (motorcycles) and rode many miles on his Goldwing. He also enjoyed antique farm equipment and working with his nephew Gary to refurbish a bulldozer.

Wayne was a lifelong member of Marlboro Friends Meeting where he was a trustee and served on many committees. He sang in the choir until he was 84 along with his wife. They were also members of the Marlboro Chorus and sang for many church and civic events in Randolph and the surrounding counties.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents: Alva and Ethel Davis Loflin; wife, Louise Webster Loflin; daughter, LuEllen Loflin Morgan; sisters, Iris Cashatt, Edith Wagoner, Virginia Parks and Treva Pearman.

He is survived by son: Clifford W. Loflin, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Sophia; daughter: Linda L. (Roger) Thuotte of Hillsborough, NC; son-in-law, Mark Morgan of Sophia; grandchildren, Laura Thuotte Bibb and her husband Ben, Daniel Loflin, Rachel Loflin Maguire and her husband Chris, Greg Thuotte, Madelyn Morgan and Wyatt Morgan; great grandson, Luke Bibb.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013, at Marlboro Friends Meeting, 2668 Marlboro Church Rd., Sophia with Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held in the Sunday School wing after the services.
