Ruby Helen Elkes George
SOPHIA - Mrs. Ruby Helen Elkes George, 88, resident of Sophia, died Dec. 16, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. George was born September 9th, 1924 in New Hanover County, a daughter to the late Peter James and Lucy Jones Elkes. A resident of this area all her life, she was a homemaker and a member of Randolph Bible Church. She was first married to Horace Elwood Gore, who preceded her in death and later to Howard Gray George Sr. who preceded her as well. In addition to her parents and husbands she was also preceded by a daughter, Horace Ann Gore and a son, Howard Gray George Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Teena Lee George Todd of High Point and Julia Dean George of Sophia; a son, Paul Allen George Sr. and wife Sharon of Sophia; two sisters, Myrtle Porter of Archdale and Joanne Dildine of Randleman; two brothers, Robert Elkes of High Point and Toby Elkes of Archdale; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Esther George Owens of Trinity.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Martin George officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, 301 W. Jewell Smith Wall
GREENSBORO - Mrs. Jewell Smith Wall, age 77, resident of Greensboro, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 16 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Mrs. Wall was born May 5, 1935 in Lexington to William L. and Chattie Ritter Smith.  She had been a resident of the area all of her life and attended High Point College (University). Mrs. Wall was employed for sixteen years with the Sears Company and also held her N.C. Real Estate Brokerage License. She was an active member of Green Street Baptist Church and the Lydia Watson Sunday School Class. Mrs. Wall had served faithfully as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and on various committees. She was also a member of the Literary League. She could often be found in her yard doing her gardening, which she greatly enjoyed. She was a loving wife, mother, and sincerely devoted to her grandchildren. Mrs. Wall was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-five years, Richard D. Wall of the home and her children; Zana Wall-Rogers and husband Tim of Dana Point, California and Blythe D. Wall and wife Candace of High Point. Mrs. Wall has two sisters; Janet Hughes and Betty Safrit, both of High Point. Also surviving are her dear grandchildren: Tyler, Faith, and Garrett Wall.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Green Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Frank Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Foyer of the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

LINWOOD - Charley Frank Young, age 80, Linwood died early Monday morning. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Churchland Baptist Church. Arrangements by Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Helen Alene Krigsman Olson
COLFAX – Mrs. Helen Alene Krigsman Olson, 87, died Friday, Dec. 14 at River Landing at Sandy Ridge where she had been a resident since 2007.
Mrs. Olson was born January 16, 1925, in Portland, Oregon, a daughter of the late Carl Krigsman and the late Katinka Ringstad Krigsman. Helen lived in Washington State, for many years until moving to Newbern, North Carolina where she worked as a Realtor and also owned and operated Golden Girls Dress Shop for over ten years. She became High Point resident in 1995. After living in High Point, she moved to The Presbyterian Home, and then in 2007 she became one of first residents of River Landing. For pleasure Mrs. Olson enjoyed playing Golf, Bridge and traveling. Her husband Erwin H. Olson died in June of 1994. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was also preceded in death by a son Kurt Andrew Olson.
Surviving are her daughter, Lee Olson Reitzel and her husband Brooks Reitzel, Jr. of High Point; a son Gary Steven Olson and his wife Sarah of Wilmington and a step-grandson, Jesse H. Jarrell and his wife Anna of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Holy Family Chapel of First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Chris Fitzgerald and the Reverend Fran Moran officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
Helen enjoyed the final years of her life living among friends at River Landing and in the last weeks in the loving care of the River Landing Staff.

Betty Arlene Phillips Wood
KERNERSVILLE – Mrs. Betty Arlene Phillips Wood, age 84, died Sunday, Dec. 16 at her residence.
A native of Guilford County, Arlene was born September 26, 1928 in High Point a daughter of the late Claude and Lois Meredith Phillips. She had been a resident of this area most of her life and worked at Burger King from 1966 until 1984. In 1986 she began working at Wallburg Elementary School, retiring in 2010. Her husband, Kerney Clinton Wood died January 12, 2001. In addition to her husband and parents, Arlene was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Darrell Wood; two brothers, Sonny and Buddy and a sister, Ann Rose.
Surviving are her daughter, Gina Wood Reaves of Bladenboro; two sons, Terry Randall Wood and his wife Karen of Dill, Maryland and Mark Anthony Wood and his wife Sherri of Kernersville; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
A gathering of friends, to celebrate Arlene’s life, will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Life Tribute Center at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

Hazel Farmer
HIGH POINT - Fanny Hazel Farmer, 95, passed away on December 16, 2012 at her residence. Hazel was born in Bedford County, Va. to the late Samuel and Susan Landreth Hudson. Hazel was raised by her grandmother Martha Jane Hudson. She was a member of the Garrell Street Baptist Church. Fannie was a homemaker and did in home child care for many years.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband John R. Farmer, a grandson Tony Kelly and a son-in-law Mike Beamon.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Johnson and fiancé Don Griffin of Kernersville, Barbara Garner and husband Bobby of Trinity, Sandra Kinley and husband James of High Point, Jean Beamon of High Point, Lorene Frazier of Allen Jay Community in High Point, and Lewis Junior Hudson and wife Rebecca of Southmont. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grand children.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Hazel’s care giver Ashley Roper, and Ricky Morgan and Justin Ewing for all they have done in helping the family.

Arville “Nub” Saintsing
THOMASVILLE - Mr. Arville Clarence “Nub” Saintsing, 81, a resident of Piedmont Crossing and formerly of Midway School Road, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community.  He was born on March 18, 1931 in Davidson County to Clarence Saintsing and Annie Craven Saintsing.  He was owner of Saintsing Plumbing and member of Midway School Road Baptist Church as well as the Golden Triangle Coon Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Alline Jarrett Saintsing on March 21, 2009; son, Garry Layne Saintsing; brothers, Raeford and Dallas Saintsing.
Surviving is his daughter, Pamela Surratt of Thomasville; sons, Lanny Thomas Saintsing and wife Debbie of Mobridge, SD and Larry Wayne Saintsing and wife Elizabeth of Thomasville; brothers, Bobby Saintsing of Thomasville and Jimmy Saintsing of Sparta, NC; sisters, Peggy Woempner and Deanie Griffitts, both of Thomasville, and Dorothy Morten of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Christy Lackey, Susann Surratt, David Surratt, Bradley Saintsing, Daniel Saintsing, and Anna Saintsing; and great-grandchildren, Justin Lackey, B.J. Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, and Tashaleah McNaire.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Nell Leonard
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Nell Black Leonard, 84, died Monday, December 17, 2012 in Hospice Home of High Pint.
Nell was born August 3, 1928 in High Point; a daughter of Richard K. and Zula Black and had lived in High Point all her life.  Nell retired from North State Communications as head cashier. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.  On December 25, 1948 she married David Bryce Leonard who preceded her in death August 2, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Beth Leonard of High Point; sister Nancy Hedrick of Jamestown and a brother Warner Black and wife Ruth of Jamestown.
A private inurnment will take place at a later date in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2012 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point from 6 until 8 p.m.

THOMASVILLE - Iris Morris, 87, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Thomasville.
She was born September 15, 1925 in Guilford County to the late William Archie and Bertha Hiatt.
Iris is survived by her beloved daughter Mary Lynn Morris of Thomasville and a sister, Helen and her husband P.V. Boone of Greensboro.
