ASHEBORO — Edwin Everett “Pat” Burns, 92, of Asheboro, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Shirley Louise Lowery Hale
THOMASVILLE — The Rev. Shirley Louise Lowery Hale, 60, of Wright Road in Thomasville, N.C., had her heavenly birth on the morning of Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was at home in the arms of loved one’s at the time of her passing.
Born in Richlands, Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel “Sam” Milton Lowery and Ella Fay Price Lowery. She was a devout minister and the founding minister of Heaven’s Gospel of Faith in Thomasville. She ordained several ministers under her, performed many weddings and through the power and grace of God led many souls to the Lord throughout her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her father Samuel Milton Lowery and one sister, Myrtle Lozine “Tootie” Lowery.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years Roger Dale Hale; mother, Ella Fay Price Lowery; two sons, Roger Lee Hale Sr. and fiancée Lisa Reynolds of Richlands, Va., and Richard Allen Hale and wife Juanita of Archdale, N.C.; one daughter, Ella Louise Hale Whitt and husband Carl of Pounding Mill, Va.; sisters, Pauline Keen and husband Jerry, Betty Miller, Nettie Helbert and husband Larry, Alice Reynolds and husband Morris. Five grandchildren; Kristina Myers, Christina Hale, Roger Lee Hale Jr., Carl Whitt III “C.J.” and Matthew Whitt; four great-grandchildren and a slew of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Shirley Louise Lowery Hale will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Rev. Roger Lester and the Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. and at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, after 6 p.m. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. HIGH POINT — Mr. Fred J. Ingram, 76, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Kindred Hospital. He was born on March 19, 1937, in Lilesville, N.C., to the late Lacy and Lessie Ingram. He was preceded in death by one brother, Vance Ingram.
He was retired from Myrtle Desk. Fred was educated in Anson County Schools and was a member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories are, one daughter, Natasha Fultz of High Point N.C.; one special nephew, Timothy Ingram of the home; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Drive, High Point, N.C. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and other times at 1459 Cedrow Drive.

DENTON — Robert Lee “Bob” Judy, 74, of Mountain Shore Drive, Denton, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home.
His body will be sent to Adams Mason Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio. Interment will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Hillside Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio.

Susie Bell Wood Lester
Susie Bell Wood Lester, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Center in Thomasville, N.C. She was born May 29, 1915, in Hiawassee (Towns County), Ga. She married James William Lester in 1935. She moved with her family from Georgia to Thomasville, N.C., around 1938. In the early 1940s the family moved to Greensboro, where she continued her education, worked as a licensed practical nurse and devoted herself to raising her family.
She is a graduate of Guilford Technical Community College. She worked for many years on the health-care staff of the Masonic Home in Greensboro and at Greensboro Health Care. She was a member of the State Street Church of God and Pinecroft Church of God in Greensboro for more than 50 years, and for the past 17 years has been a member of Thomasville Church of God.
She is survived by four children: James C. Lester and wife Faye of Richmond, Va., Margaret L. Mock and husband Bill of Fredericksburg, Va.; Douglas J. Lester of Raleigh, N.C.; and Frederick W. Lester of Round Rock, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Amy Lester of Plainfield, Vt.; Andy Lester-Niles and wife Paige of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Ashley Lester of Seneca, S.C.; Aaron Lester and wife Kristin of Boston, Mass.; Austin Lester of Greensboro, N.C.; Martha Mock and husband Jeffrey Choppin of Rochester, N.Y.; Sara Caswell of Fredericksburg, Va.; Karyn Hidalgo and husband Brad of Orlando, Fla.; Bryan Lester of Round Rock, Texas.
In addition she is survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, James W. Lester; her parents, Hubbard Pinkney and Bertha Ann Kimsey Wood; and five sisters, Neva Morrison, Ann Worley, Evelyn Wilborne, Bonnie Howington and Opal Miller. In addition to family, she leaves behind her devoted friends Margaret and Thomas Cain; Nora and Wayne Harden; her loving caregivers from Hospice of Davidson County and Piedmont Crossing; and her church family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time, with a reception to be held following the interment service at Guilford Memorial Park.

HIGH POINT — Mr. Lex McCullough Jr., 66, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Monday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. He was born on Oct. 26, 1947, to the late Lex McCullough Sr. and Bertha McCullough. He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Donnell McCullough.
Lex was a lifelong resident of High Point. After graduating from William Penn High School in the Class of 1966, he entered in the United States Air Force.
Those left to cherish his memories are, his wife, Fannie Ernestine McCullough of the home; two sons, Dedrick McCullough and Brandon McCullough both of High Point, N.C.; one daughter, Tuani (Robert) Hubbard of Oakwood Village, Ohio; two sisters, Paula E. (Larry) Royal of High Point, N.C., and Saundra M. McCullough (Sylvester) McCullough- Cobey of Woodbridge, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at noon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 715 W. Willis Ave, High Point, N.C., with the Rev. J.W. Flake, eulogist. Interment will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, N.C. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. until noon.

Wendy Brooks Mitchell
HIGH POINT — Wendy Brooks Mitchell, 72, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at her home. Wendy was born in Houlton, Maine, to John Benson Brooks and Helen Hughes Lane. She was raised in New York City, where she attended City & Country School and the High School for the Performing Arts. She married Emmitt Mitchell, and the two of them developed real estate, construction and plumbing businesses on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Wendy was active in Eastern Star, DAR, Habitat for Humanity and local politics. She later lived in North Palm Beach, Fla., and then at River Landing in Colfax, N.C. She was a creative, passionate lady and a loving and devoted wife. She was a generous, patient mother and a beloved grandmother. Wendy is survived by her husband Emmitt, sister Stephanie, aunt Sophia, son Charny and wife Rebecca, and two grandchildren, Emily and Joseph. Wendy viewed life through rose-colored glasses.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, 2 p.m. at River Landing, 1575 John Knox Drive, Colfax, N.C. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to City and Country School, 146 W. 13th St., New York, NY 10011.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Kenneth Ray Oliver, 58, passed away on Nov. 13, 2013, in Phoenix, Ariz. He proudly served his country for 13 years in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Israel Odell and Carrie Mae Oliver. He is survived by one daughter, Ginger Oliver; three grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin (Levon) Oliver, James (Sandra) Oliver and Tyrone (Crystal) Oliver; three sisters, Carrie E. Oliver, Loretta Eyvonne Oliver and Denise Oliver, a host of other relatives and friends.
