Nina S. Bass
LEXINGTON — Nina Belle Stokes Bass, 93, of Alston Brook Nursing Home, formerly of West Avenue, Lexington, died Nov. 11, 2013, at the nursing home.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will be held 10:30-11 a.m. at the chapel. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Gary Berrier
LEXINGTON — Gary Lynn Berrier, 67, of Lexington died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel .

Martha Rising Brown
TRINITY — Martha Ann Rising Brown, 73, of Trinity, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013.
Martha was born April 4, 1940, to the late Richard Rising Jr. and Alice Benton Rising in Wilmington, N.C. She worked for 26 years as an administrator in the billing department of Randolph Hospital. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at High Point Regional Hospital. Martha loved to help others, and will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Martha is survived by daughter, Catherine Brady of Trinity; brother, Richard Rising and wife Margaret of Winston-Salem; sister, Bonnie Hodge of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Junior West, Scott West and Neal Lackey; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale with the Rev. Johnny Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

ASHEBORO — James Donald Cagle, 81, of Asheboro died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vergie Farlow Coltrane
SOPHIA — Mrs. Vergie Farlow Coltrane, 92, resident of Sophia, died Nov. 10, 2013, at her home.
Mrs. Coltrane was born June 26, 1921, a daughter to the late Lawrence and Blanch Hill Farlow. A resident of this area all her life, she was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting. In 1939 she married Charles Coltrane, who preceded her in death in 1996. Also preceding her was her brother, Raeford Farlow; and three sisters, Clarice McDowell, Pauline Allred and Clata Hardin.
Surviving are two daughters, Louise Hill and husband Jimmy of Sophia and Emogene Bame of Sophia; two sisters, Wilma Cook and Earline Taylor; three grandchildren, Kathy Small, Sherry Hutto and husband Eddie and Donna Sanders and husband Mark; three great-grandchildren, Christian Hutto, Avery Benge and Robert Small; three step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Dave Mercadante officiating. Interment will follow at Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Tom Fritts III
LEXINGTON — David Thomas “Tom” Fritts III, 79, of City Lake Road, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health, Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Fridayat Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Hunt
DENTON — Kathleen Snider Hunt, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Mountain Vista Health Park.
Private Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.


Don Wray Morris
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Don Wray Morris of Jamestown and High Point, N.C., and Myrtle Beach, S.C., died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, after suffering a stroke.
Don was born Feb. 15, 1931, to Arthur Clyde and Connie Snyder Morris. On May 28, 1955, he married Betty Jean Smith. Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed as a sales representative for Agfa until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, Don and Betty divided their time between their Jamestown home and their second home in Myrtle Beach.
Don and Betty have been longtime members of First United Methodist Church in High Point, where they were both active in Hays Bible Class, Parson’s Table and Mobile Meals. He was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews and always welcomed his children’s friends. Don coached youth basketball and baseball in Jamestown and was an active supporter in all of his children’s activities.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Burris; his brothers Bob, Glenn, and Bill Morris; a nephew, Glenn “Pug” Morris, and his nieces Barbara and Catherine Morris.
Don is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Donna Morris Ragan and husband, John; his sons, Rick Morris, Terry Morris and wife Sarah; two grandsons, Bryan Ragan and Carson Morris; three granddaughters, Haley Morris, Kallie Ragan and Olivia Morris; one brother, Wayne “Frip” Morris, and a large extended family.
A celebration of life and visitation will be held at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a private internment service on Friday at Guilford Memorial Park.
The family is requesting memorials in lieu of flowers. Charities that Don’s family support include the First United Methodist Church, 512 N. Garnett Lee Rice Jr.
Garnett Lee Rice Jr., 68, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, in Thomasville, N.C. Mr. Rice had recently moved from Carolina Beach, N.C., where he lived for 23 years as a property owner/manager. He was a licensed charter boat captain and enjoyed fishing for many years. He was also actively involved in his beach community.  His last few working years he helped manage the Arcade in Kure Beach for a dear friend. He is preceded in death by his father Garnett L. Rice Sr. and mother Virginia Rice. He is survived by daughter Lisa Rice of High Point, granddaughter Jordan Rice, sister Sheila Smith, brother Greg Rice and wife Sandi, former wife and friend Cheryl Rice, many loving nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Sissy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Salvation Army Chapel, 10 Pine St., Thomasville at 2 p.m., followed by a time of fellowship. Robert Simmons
SOPHIA — Robert “Bob” Edward Simmons, 73, died Nov. 11, 2013.
A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Springfield Friends Meeting, High Point. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

Mamie Simon
HIGH POINT — Mamie Leake Simon, 86, of 805 Vail Ave. died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point.
Arrangements are incomplete at Johnson and Sons.


Donald Ray Teer
Donald Ray Teer passed away Nov. 12 , 2013, at Triad Care and Rehabilation Center. Mr. Teer’s funeral service are incomplete. He was a member of the High Point and Archdale community all of his life.
