Kathy Davis Abrahamson
GREENSBORO — Kathy Davis Abrahamson, 62, of Greensboro, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at her home in Greensboro. Kathy was born Aug. 2, 1951, in Guilford County. She is one of three children born to the late James Edwin Davis and Eunice May Williams Woodell. Kathy worked as a paralegal for Freedman Law Firm in Greensboro. Kathy graduated from Ragsdale High and grew up in Jamestown. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Brian Pardue of High Point; a grandson, Luke Pardue; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tammy Bain of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Marley Bain; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Patricia Bain of Asheville; two granddaughters, Lily and Maddie Bain. In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her sister Mary Elizabeth Davis and brother Mickey Davis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, N.C. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bertie Mae Long Clayton
HIGH POINT — Bertie Mae Long Clayton, 75, resident of Stratford Independent Senior Living Community, High Point, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.
Born Dec. 23, 1937, to the late Vestal and Ruth Andrews Long, Bertie had been a resident of the High Point area since the mid-1970s.  She retired from High Point Bank in 2000.  In addition to her parents, Bertie is predeceased by a daughter, Rachel Hackler.
Bertie is survived by her husband, A.D. Clayton, of the home; sons, Ivan Clayton and wife Donna of Elon and David Clayton and wife Frances of Pinehurst; brother, John Wesley Long and wife Melanie of Burlington; and grandsons, Gray Clayton, Austin Clayton and Evan Clayton.
A celebration of Bertie’s life will be held Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, with Pastor Bill Hare officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow the service at Floral Garden Memorial Park, High Point.

LEXINGTON — Lonnie Franklin Grubb, 69, of Lexington died Oct. 21, 2013.

THOMASVILLE — Melina Elizabeth Hernandez, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at 36 years old.

Kathleen Ann Harty Jones
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Kathleen Ann Harty Jones, 77, a resident of Asheville and Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, 2013, in the Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisc., a daughter of Thomas Harty and Helen Reichart Harty.
Mrs. Jones was past-president of the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapists.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas Ernest Jones of Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico; daughters, Amanda Jones and husband Ronald of Thomasville and Rebecca Jones of Oak Island, N.C.; a son, Michael Harty Jones and wife Lynn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Tylee Jones, Cyprus Jones, Niki Rice, Dahlia Jones and Kezia Matson; a brother, Thomas Harty and wife Mary Ann of Topsham, Maine; and special friend, Amanda Garrison of Lexington.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Asheville with inurnment in the Riverside Cemetery.

Juanita Elizabeth Steed Loflin
TRINITY — Mrs. Juanita Elizabeth Steed Loflin, 92, widow of Branson Worth Loflin, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 19th at her residence.
A lifelong resident of this area, Juanita was born June 4, 1921, in Cedar Square, the daughter of the late James Addison and Nancy Elizabeth Davis Steed.  For many years she had been an active member of Trinity Baptist Church.  Her many interests, in addition to her family, included, gardening, cooking, sewing and attending many Gospel singings.  She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, friends and family to many different places. She was an avid member of the Sunshine Garden Club and was very famous for her homemade cakes.  In addition to her husband, who died March 16, 2001, and her parents, Juanita was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Steed Richardson and four brothers, Ray, Glenn, Floyd and Cleo Steed.
Juanita is survived by three daughters, Janice Smith and her husband Ronald of Trinity, Phyllis Brenman of New York City and Sylvia Baird of High Point; four grandchildren, Lisa Smith Norman and her husband Dan of High Rock Lake, Dane Lawing of Santa Monica, CA, Angela Smith Caines and her husband Jason of Trinity and Cort Lawing of Longwood, FL; six great-grandchildren, Alex Smith, Alacy Norman, Zoey Lawing, Kyndall Norman, Celie Lawing and Hunter Caines; her sister-in-law, Ruby Loflin of High Point; several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Lib Mills, Carol Hodgins and Patricia Hussy.  Also surviving is her pet companion, Andy.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Alley and Rev. Ken Evans officiating.  Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to her home caregivers, Debora Marshall, Debbie Caswell and Patricia Caswell for the loving care Juanita received during her illness.  Also a special thanks to the incredible staff of Hospice of the Piedmont.

ARCHDALE — Charles Leonard McManus, 70, of Archdale, died Oct. 23, 2013.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the graveside at Mountain View Memorial Park in Marietta, Ga. Visitation will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Jonathan Michael Nelson, 34, formerly of Sophia, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at his residence.

HIGH POINT — Sarah Faith Varner, 98, died Oct. 23, 2013, at Westchester Manor.

Elbert Washington
JAMESTOWN — Elbert Washington, 67, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Arlene (Weston) Washington to whom he was married for 47 years.
Mr. Washington was born on Sept. 1, 1946, in New York, NY.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Washington is survived by three sons, Kenneth Washington and his wife, Mirtha, Kevin Washington and his wife, Peggy, and Jason Washington and his wife, Shannon; seven grandchildren, Kayla Washington, Matthew Washington, Brandon Washington, Justin Washington, Josiah Washington, Judah Washington, and Elydia Washington; a brother; a sister; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness, 1405 Penny Road, High Point with Elliot Waites officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the service at the Life Tribute Center of Cumby Family Funeral Service.
