Evelyn Bowers
Evelyn Lucille Hutton Bowers, 85, of High Point, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.
A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale.


Joseph “Joe” David Brewer Sr.
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Joseph “Joe” David Brewer Sr., 75, a resident of Trexler Avenue, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at his home. He was born on Sept. 11, 1938, in Guilford County, N.C., to Bernie L. Brewer and Beulah Ragan Brewer. He was a retired truck driver with Fredrickson Motor Express and attended Community Baptist Church in Trinity, N.C. He loved music, could play many instruments, and enjoyed doing magic tricks for children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie L. “Jack” Brewer Jr.; and a sister, Jean Rimer.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca “Anne” Fitch Brewer of the home; son, Joseph “Joe” David Brewer Jr. and wife Lisa of Thomasville; daughters, Vickie Bingham and husband the Rev. Junior Bingham of Thomasville, N.C., Karen Byerly and husband Jeff of Lexington, N.C., and Phyllis Summey of Thomasville, N.C.; brother, John Daniel Brewer of Indiana; grandchildren, Melissa Bingham and husband Robbie, Bradley Brewer, Ashley Hazelwood and husband Covi, Brett Byerly, and Kelly Summey; step-grandchild, Quade Vaught and wife Chandra; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Ty Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home of his son, Joe Brewer  Jr.  Memorials may be directed to Community Baptist Church Building Fund, 9006 Hillsville Road, Trinity, NC 27370.  Online condolences may be sent to www.jcgreenandsons.com.

Marion Summey Briles
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Marion Summey Briles, 80, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House. He was born on Feb. 27, 1933, in Davidson County to Russel J. Briles and Zola Summey Briles. He worked in the furniture industry the majority of his life and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and former Cub Scout leader  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mock, Hilton Briles on Feb. 9, 2001, whom he married on Dec. 19, 1953.
Surviving are his sons, David N. Briles and wife Carolyn of Monroe, Ga., Joseph A. Briles and wife Patty of Smithfield, N.C., and Jonathan H. Briles of Thomasville; brother, Lee Briles and wife Ruth of Jamestown; sister, Rusaline Cassidy of Trinity; and four grandchildren, Michael Briles, Megan Briles, Stephanie Briles, and Beth Briles.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. James Simonds and the Rev. Dr. Joe D. Coltrane officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Briles will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. THOMASVILLE —  Mable Gilbert English, 74,  died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Cone Health MedCenter  in High Point. Funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 30 minutes before the service. S. E. Thomas Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Lonnie Grubb
LEXINGTON — Lonnie Franklin Grubb, 69, of Lexington died Oct. 21, 2013.
A celebration of his life will be held at noon Saturday at New Friendship United Church of Christ. Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Haney
JAMESTOWN — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Jane Haney will be held at Oakdale United Methodist Church on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. by the Rev. David Blankenberg. Friends and family will gather in the fellowship hall following the service.
She was born July 17, 1941, in High Point, N.C., the daughter of John Howard and Virginia Johnson Payne and raised in Trinity. She graduated from Trinity High School and earned her degree at Greensboro College. Jane was a social worker for Randolph County, a teacher at Fairyland Nursery and later, a merchandiser for American Greetings. One of her greatest joys was her 38 year tenure as pianist and organist for Oakdale United Methodist Church, where she was able to share her love for music and serve her church with friends and family.
Jane was a longtime supporter of Ragsdale athletics and a member of the Historic Jamestown Society. She enjoyed being involved with the Trinity Memorial Association, helping to bring the Trinity College bell back to the site of the original college, where it stands on display. Jane participated for many years in Relay for Life as a 20-plus-year cancer survivor. She truly enjoyed being involved in her community and the fellowship that came with it.
She married Jerry Wallace Haney of High Point in 1963; he preceded her in death. Jane is survived by her children, Brian Haney of Chapel Hill, Jon and Jennifer Haney of Clemmons and Anne Haney of Raleigh. She was the proud grandmother of Natalie Speer of Clemmons and RJ Haney of Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, Jane’s family would like for memorials to be directed to the Hayworth Cancer Center of High Point in her honor.
Jane’s family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and love of the staff of Cornerstone Oncology and Dr. Susan Williford.  They also express their gratitude to the loving care from the staff at Hospice Home.

Aaron Samuel Hoffman
HIGH POINT — AAaron Samuel Hoffman, 23, of High Point, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013.
Born Nov. 21, 1989, to Larry and Doreen Chambers Hoffman, Aaron was loved by everyone. He attended Crossover Community Church and worked for Archdale Barbeque. He loved music and spending time with his friends and had a great love for animals. In his spare time he collected rocks and coins. Aaron enjoyed taking care of his mom and his niece, and will be fondly remembered as a great son, brother, uncle and friend. He is predeceased by his father, Larry Hoffman.
Aaron is survived by his mother, Doreen Chambers Hoffman of High Point; sister, Aysia Hoffman and her boyfriend William Chris Harrison of High Point; and niece, Alana Cunningham.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Vicki Sestito Strickland
GREENSBORO —  Mrs. Vicki Sestito Strickland, age 80, died Monday, Oct. 21, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
An Ohio native, Vicki was born May 20, 1933, in Cincinnati, a daughter of the late Vincent Natale and Mary Gaudio Sestito. She had been a resident of this area since 1974 and worked in the billing department of Western Electric Company (now AT&T) until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Her outgoing personality enabled her to meet and enjoy being around people. Over the years, she and her husband were able to spend considerable time traveling. In addition to her parents, Vicki was also preceded in death by three siblings, Rose McPherson, Pat Sestito and Laura Sestito.
Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Marshall Grady Strickland; one sister, Josephine Saintsing; a brother, Pete Sestito; two nieces, Cindy Bridges and Wendy Saintsing and one nephew, Alan McPherson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with the Rev. Scott Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

LEXINGTON — Mary Margaret Lanning Tetter, 86, of Rowe Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home.

LEXINGTON — Pamela Jane Williams Thompson, 57, of New N.C. 64 East died Oct. 22, 2013.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
