Mae Hedrick Beck
LEXINGTON — Mae Hedrick Beck, 101, of Allred Road, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at her home. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday in the church sanctuary.

 

Craig Donald Becker
THOMASVILLE — Craig Donald Becker, 50, of Thomasville died Friday August 23, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born January 26, 1963, in Reading, PA, he is a son of the late Donald Mahlon Becker and Lennia Darlene Snyder Becker. He is a member of Archdale United Methodist Church and was employed by Mickey Truck Bodies Inc. as a design engineer manager. Mr. Becker was an assistant soccer coach at Wheatmore High School and the former president of the athletic booster club.
Mr. Becker is survived by his wife Margaret M. Becker and three children, Emily M. Becker, Kelly M. Becker and Samuel C. Becker, all of the home. He is also survived by one sister Cheri Becker-Vollbracht of Sanford. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Craig Donald Becker will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service Archdale with the Reverend Dana McKim and the Reverend Stuart Noel officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Private interment services will be held earlier in the day.

Vernon Lee Boone
HIGH POINT — Mr. Vernon Lee Boone, 78, of High Point, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013
Vernon was born February 26, 1935, to the late Jesse and Francis Boone. He was the owner of Boone’s Auto Sales for more than 40 years.  In 1954 Vernon married the love of his life, Dorothy Thrift. He loved to fish and will be remembered fondly. He is predeceased by a son, Gary Lee Boone.
In addition to his wife, Vernon is survived by daughter, Rebecca Boone Mateer and husband Dale of Greensboro; son, Thomas Boone and wife Karen of Level Cross; brother, Tony Boone; sister, Lillian Harmon and husband Melvin; grandchildren, Jessica Caudle and husband Richie, Shane Boone, Courtney Pennell and husband Matthew, and Jesse Boone; and great-grandchildren, Grace Caudle and Will Caudle.
A celebration of Vernon’s life will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Springfield Baptist Church, High Point, with Pastor Bobby Loving officiating.  Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery, Thomasville.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. in the church sanctuary.

Betty Sue Mabe Lookabill

Faye Marks
HIGH POINT — Faye Marks, 79, a longtime resident of High Point, former Guilford County public schools teacher and Sunday columnist for the High Point Enterprise, passed away in Los Gatos, California. She had moved to California in 2012 to be near family following the death of her husband of 55 years, Robert Marks.
Mrs. Marks was an award-winning Guilford County Public Schools teacher, primarily in third grade, and was recognized as a North Carolina Teacher of the Year. For many years, she also wrote a popular Sunday column in the High Point Enterprise titled “Around Town.” She was a graduate of Pfeiffer University and received her master’s degree in education from UNC-Greensboro. She was a longtime member of the High Point Friends Meeting. 
Born in Cowpens, SC, Mrs. Marks grew up primarily in Alabama and North Carolina. She is survived by her eldest son, Robert Edward Marks, daughter-in-law, Lynne Blahnik and granddaughter, Sarka Blahnik, all residents of Albuquerque, NM; her youngest son, Alan Lee Marks, daughter-in-law Mary Kim, and grandchildren Quincy and Caleb Marks, all of Los Gatos, CA; a sister, Betty Hicks White of Richmond, Virginia; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Ruby Floyd of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lola.
The family will hold memorial services in California and North Carolina. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Reading is Fundamental (www.rif.org) in honor of Mrs. Marks’ commitment to education and literacy.

 

James William Stallings III
THOMASVILLE — Mr. James William Stallings III, (who was better known as Bill or J.W.), 80, of Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, died June 11, 2013.
He was born in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of James W. Stallings Jr. and Elizabeth Davis Stallings. He grew up in Goldsboro and Clinton, NC, but lived most of his life in Fayetteville, NC, after leaving the U.S. Army Special Forces at Fort Bragg in the 1950’s. J.W. worked for the old M&O Chevrolet dealership in Fayetteville, NC, as a transmission specialist and continued to work small jobs in the Service Department area even after it became Reed Lallier Chevrolet, until he retired in 2010, having put in almost 50 years of continuous employment.
Mr. Stallings is survived by his ex-wife Christine Stallings, his daughter Susan Maines and her husband Don and their son Charles (Chucky) of Winston-Salem, NC. He has one brother also, John Robert (Bob) Stallings and his wife Barbara of Morehead City, NC.

 

Avon M. Trogdon
ASHEBORO — Ms. Avon Marie Hunter Trogdon, 72, of Asheboro died Monday, August 26, 2013. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home.

Nancy Joy Eller Bowen Wood
TRINITY — Nancy Joy Eller Bowen Wood, 63, of Trinity, died Monday August 26, 2013.
Born August 28, 1949, to the late Jacob and Mae Smith Eller, Nancy lived her entire life in this area. Nancy worked for more than 15 years as Manager of Elder Care. Nancy’s own health issues cut her career short, but not her love of family and her church, Love of God Baptist, where she was an active member for 15 years.
Nancy is survived by children, David Fergerson Jr., Rhonda Cranford and husband Tommy, Tommie Edmonds and husband Michael, and Karen Baugus, all of Thomasville; brother, Wallace Eller and wife Frances of Trinity; sisters, Naomi Walker and husband Glen of Florida and Faye Murrow and husband Reverend Mitchell Murrow of Mt. Holly; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, at 12 p.m. with Reverend Mitchell Murrow officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
