SOPHIA — Linda Banton, 57, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Cremation services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.
HIGH POINT — Mr. John Max Barnes, 82, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Hospice Home at High Point. He was born on May 8, 1932 in Randolph County, NC to John Henry Barnes and Marinda Jane Harris Barnes. Max was a graduate of Davis-Townsend School, where he drove a school bus and played baseball. He received an associate degree in diesel engineering from NC State. He was a truck driver doing long distance freight with 5 million accident free miles logged and also worked as a machinist at Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock on the U.S.S. Forrestal and U.S.S. Enterprise for their 1st day at sea. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Max was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed traveling, and spent many years coaching Pee-wee football and baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Huskins Barnes on September 22, 1991, whom he married on January 20, 1952. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Ruby Barnes Owens.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Sue Barnes of Charlotte, NC; son, John Michael Barnes of High Point; sisters, Gertrude Wall of Thomasville, Farrist Ann Loflin and husband Bill of Thomasville, Shirley Briles and husband Harold of Trinity, Nancy Gallimore and husband Jerry of Thomasville, and Imogene Cartner of Myrtle Beach, SC; and brothers, Weldon Barnes and wife Pat of Thomasville and Joel Barnes of Trinity.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Mitchell, Rev. Roger Weisner, and Rev. Richard Huskins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Mr. Barnes will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the visitation. Helen Marie Johnson Dozier
HIGH POINT — Helen Marie Johnson Dozier, 88, died Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was born December 20, 1925, the second daughter of Joseph Wheeler and Roxie Sadelia Wall Johnson. She was married to James Carroll Dozier, who died on February 10, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Jo Johnson Edgeworth and brother Hubert S. Johnson. She is survived by two brothers, James W. Johnson of Winston Salem and C Wayne Johnson of High Point, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 17, at the First United Methodist Church of High Point.

HIGH POINT — Mr. Clyde Odell Kennedy, 86, of High Point went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Hospice of High Point.
Mr. Kennedy was born on March 28, 1928 in Salisbury, NC to the late Albert and Dora (Millikan) Kennedy.
He served in the U.S. Army from February 1946 to August 1947. He was a Mess Sergeant and served in Japan.
On May 7, 1948 he married Mary Clorese (McAdden). In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by three daughters, Pam Cromer and her husband, Terry of Thomasville, Sonja Harvell and her husband, Mike of High Point and Renee Whitley and her husband, Chris of High Point; six grandchildren, Michael Cromer and his wife, Paige of Atlanta, Georgia, Chad Cromer of Miami, Florida, Amanda Wall and her husband, Eric of Charlotte, Crystal Martin and her husband, Ben of Kernersville, Stephanie Whitley of Charlotte, and Shane Harvell of the home; two brothers, Wilton Kennedy and his wife, Joan of Rockville, Maryland, and Robie Kennedy and his wife, Ruth of Archdale; a sister, Margaret Hicks of High point; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Floyd, Colon, Howard and Robert Kennedy and a sister Shirley Miller.
Mr. Kennedy was a member of Albertson Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer, trustee and a charter member.
He was president of Lighting Center of Lexington and High Point and retired to be home and spend time with his grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point with Rev. Ernest Mangum and Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, 27262.

Glenn W. Patterson
HIGH POINT — Our Father in Heaven chose to send a special angel to bring a very special child of the King to his heavenly home. Glenn W. Patterson passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Hospice Home of High Point.
He was born in Surry County, NC on October 9, 1922, the son of Jasper and Emma Jones Patterson who preceded him in death along with his seven siblings. Glenn served his country in the US Army during WW II and was in communications headquarters located in India. He retired from Univac/Unisys of Greensboro after thirty seven years of employment.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Mary Yarbrough Patterson of the home; step son, Ray Oakley of McLeansville, NC, Keith Patterson (Mary) of Reidsville NC; daughter, Sheila Drew (Thomas) of Rocky Mount, NC; step daughters, Fonda Spivey (Clayton) of High Point, NC, Shelley Snider (David) of Moore County, NC; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. Entombment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

TRINITY — Richard Wylie, age 73, a resident of Trinity, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014.
He was born on October 23, 1940 in Cherokee County, SC, to the late Pierce Wylie and Dora Lee Gladden Wylie. He attended the University of South Carolina (USC at Spartanburg), and was an avid Gamecock fan. Richard worked for Momentive Performance Materials as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed playing golf, especially at Holly Ridge and spending time with his family. Richard was a founding member of Living Waters of High Point Church.
Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Rhonda Byars Wylie; his children, Chris Wylie, Debbie Alexander, Carla Harrison and her husband Warren, and Heather Broome. Also surviving is his beloved Heidi, his faithful canine companion.
A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Living Waters of High Point Church, with Pastor Gary Green officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
