Virginia “Jenny” LaPradd Bullin
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Virginia (Jenny) LaPradd Bullin, 90, resident of High Point, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Westchester Manor Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Bullin was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Guilford County, a daughter to the late Frank and Addie Cecil LaPradd.  A resident of this area all her life, she retired from Burlington Industries and was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years.  She lived an exemplary Christian life that showed much devotion to God, family and her church.  She was a Christian mentor to all who knew her.  In 1936 she married James Clinton (J.C.) Bullin who preceded her in death in 1979.  Also preceding her are four sisters, Lois Mabe, Avis Moore, Ernestine Murphy and Nancy Williams; and three brothers, James, Kenneth and Wayne LaPradd.
Surviving is a daughter, Patsy B. Taylor and husband Pat of Winston-Salem; a son, Larry C. Bullin and wife Barbara of High Point; a sister, Pauline (Polly) Pitts of High Point; and three grandchildren.       
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Archdale with Rev. Richard Callahan officiating.  Interment will follow at Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.  Memorials may be directed to Mt. LEXINGTON — Nellie Beck George, 86, formerly of Abbotts Creek Nursing, died Jan. 5, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church.

Arlie M. “Buddy” Huffman
TRINITY — Arlie M. Huffman, 86, of Trinity, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Buddy was born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Randolph County, a son to the late Arlie Huffman and Alma Caviness Huffman.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Robbins Huffman and sister, Bernice Varner.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy.  Buddy was a member of Green Street Baptist Church; he attended the Jerry Poole Sunday School Class and assisted with the Wednesday night meals.  He was the owner/operator of Huffman Carpet Sales and Service.  Buddy enjoyed bird watching for Purple Martins and building Blue Bird houses, gardening especially tomatoes and having the joy of sharing them with everyone possible.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by two daughters, Jan Moore and husband, Joey, of High Point and Judy Hartgrove and husband, Neal of Garner; a brother, Dean Huffman and wife, Carol, of Asheboro and three grandchildren, Kristin Coberly and husband, Kevin, Benjamin and Beverly Hartgrove.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point with Rev. Frank Hensley officiating.  Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

LEXINGTON — Margaret Ruth “Bean” Branch Keaton, 69, of Highway 47, Lexington, died Jan. 4, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Forest Hill Memorial.

Linda Ganus Landreth
THOMASVILLE — Ms. Linda Ganus Landreth, 68, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1944, in Rockingham County daughter of the late James Paul (Buster) Ganus and Iona Faye Bell Ganus. She was a former employer of Thomasville Furniture Industries and was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her life companion, Donald Campbell.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Leonard and husband Chris and Mary Cardwell and husband Mike all of Thomasville; two sons, David Landreth and Karen of Star, NC, and Paul Landreth and wife Stephanie of Welcome; one sister, Marilyn Harris and husband Howard of High Point; six grandchildren, Brandie Saunders, Ashley Crouse, Holly Cardwell, Emilee Leonard, Cody Landreth and Abbie Landreth; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Holly Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Donnie Chandler officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville and other times at the home of the daughter, Kathy Leonard 235 Cedar Lane Rd. Thomasville, NC 27360. In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated for a memorial bench in memory of Linda Landreth c/o Kathy Leonard and Mary Cardwell 159 Motsinger Rd. Thomasville, NC 27360. HIGH POINT — Lucille Shelley Mooney, 82, a resident of High Point, died Jan. 7, 2013.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.

Jane H. “Miss Jane” Morris
KERNERSVILLE — Mrs. Jane H. “Miss Jane” Morris, 81, of South Cherry St., Kernersville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jan. 7, 2013, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Jane was born in Davidson County a daughter of the late Numa Hinkle and Geneva Williard Hinkle and she was raised by her grandparents, Joe R. Williard and Pathelia Smith Williard. She retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1998 and was a member of First Christian Church. She was married to Paul Lee Morris who preceded her in death September 25, 2008. Miss Jane loved to visit and spend time with her friends in downtown Kernersville.
Surviving are her daughter, Sue M. Young and husband Ronnie of Wallburg; one son, Craig Morris and wife Marty of Oak Ridge; two sister-in-laws, Thelma Hinkle of Midway and Mary M. Hyde of Mocksville; five grandchildren, Billy Morris and wife Diann, Jeremy Morris, Scott Young and wife Alicia, Sherri Jones and husband Jeff and Allen Young and wife Stephanie. Seven great-grandchildren, Alex and Anna Young, Tori and Linsey Byrd, Cody, Austin and Dylan Morris; step great- grandchildren, Melany Jones, Sammy Jones and Isaiah Smith.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Pete Kunkle and Rev. Wayne Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston Salem. Mrs. Morris will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg until taken to Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville where the family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Helen Russell
HIGH POINT — Helen Rebecca Gibson Russell, the fifth child born to Alley Gibson and Mattie E. Allen Gibson, began her earthly pilgrimage Jan. 7, 1919, in Walnut Cove, N.C.  She departed this life Jan. 5, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Russell attended the Walnut Cove public schools and moved to High Point during her teen years to pursue better opportunities.  She was a long time, loyal member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as an usher, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Alice McLeod Sunday School Class and the Silver and Gold Ministry.  It was at the church that she met Oscar Russell and they were later united in marriage.  Together, she and Oscar tirelessly worked with the Boy Scout Troop at the church as well as with a plethora of other church organizations, events and activities.  Her community involvement included memberships in the White Rose Chapter 158 Order of the Eastern Star, the Criterion Bridge Club, the Morehead Senior Club, and the Burns Hill Community Sympathy Club.  She put her heart and soul in all that she endeavored and could be counted on to diligently and efficiently fulfill all her commitments.  Through her life of reverence, dignity and humility she made the world a better place not just for her family, but for all who knew her.  Now, after a well lived and faithful life of service, Helen Rebecca Gibson Russell dwells in the realms of life eternal.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oscar, three sisters, Betty Gibson Covington, Gladys Beatty Wiley and Lettisha Gibson Manley, and one brother, Alley Gibson, Jr.
Surviving relatives to cherish her legacy and memory are her son, to whom she was completely devoted and dearly loved, Jerry Gibson of High Point, her loving sister who helped to raise her, Rosa (Lady) Gibson Carter of Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, five nieces: Sarah Beatty Carter (Charles) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jo Ann Covington, Betty Carter Jefferies (Henry), Letitia Beatty Johnson (Jerome), all of High Point, and Barbara Carter Schumake of Charlotte, NC; four nephews: Frank Gibson (Cornelius) of  Philadelphia, PA, William Covington (Vonzella), Henry Talmadge Carter, Jr, both of High Point and Dr. Ronald Lee Carter of Charlotte, NC.  She is also survived by a dedicated cousins, Dianne Huffman of Greensboro, NC and John Gibson of Walnut Cove as well as other Gibson family of Walnut Cove, 9 grandnieces, 6 grandnephews, 3 great grandnieces, 1 great grandnephew, 1 step great grandniece and 1 step great grandnephew.
Memorial service will be 12 noon, Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at United Memorial Methodist Church, 1327 Cedrow Drive.  Family visitation will be 11:30 to noon.  Johnson and Sons is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be made at
