Mary Lee Smith
LEXINGTON — Mary Lee Parks Smith, 88, died Jan. 3, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home.

Gloria Foust Martin  
HIGH POINT — Gloria Foust Martin died January 3, 2013, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge. She was the daughter of Dewey Forest Foust and Anna Moran Foust. Upon graduating from High Point High School in 1944, she entered High Point College to study Primary Education. During her sophomore year she became sick with tuberculosis and spent 18 months at the Guilford County Sanitarium in Jamestown, NC. On December 10, 1949, she married William A. “Bill” Martin and she completed her education at High Point College graduating in 1950. She was President of Theta Phi Sorority her senior year and Homecoming queen her junior year. She taught school at Jack n Jill’s in High Point and worked Tuesdays with her mother, Anna Foust, her brother James Dewey Foust and her husband “Bill” in the operation of D F. Foust Livestock in Greensboro. In 1978 Gloria and her husband Bill formed Bill Martin Livestock also located in Greensboro. On July 2, 1986, her husband of 36 years passed away and on December 19, 1987 Gloria decided to close Bill Martin Livestock and went to work with Baker Furniture in their showroom before moving to River Landing. She was preceded in death by her son, William F. “Little Bill” Martin, her parents D. F. Foust and Anna Foust and her brother James Dewey Foust. Gloria is survived by her son, Jeffrey A. Martin and wife Vicki of Thomasville, grandchildren Courtney Martin Crouse and husband Jonathan, Justin A. Martin and wife Betsy, Lee Martin, Lane Martin and Laura Martin McPherson. Great grandchildren Ansley Crouse, Corbin Crouse, Ivory McPherson and Dean McPherson. Brother-in-laws Ed and wife Kathy Martin, Harold and wife Betty Martin, Jim and wife Judy Martin along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point and the funeral service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Sechrest Chapel with burial following at Guilford Memorial Park, Sedgefield, NC.

LEXINGTON — Sarah Gatton Hudson, 85,  Jan. 04, 2013, at Piedmont Crossing.
A funeral service be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meadowview Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be  from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home.

Linda Briles Williford
ASHEBORO — Linda Alene Briles Williford, 69, died Jan. 4, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at High Rock Baptist Church. Visitation will be from  6 to 8 p.m. at the home. Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Velma HallARCHDALE — Velma Louise Hall, 81, died Jan 2, 2013.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at True Gospel Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, in Archdale.

Arthelia “Mickie” Rothrock 
ARCHDALE — Arthelia (Mickie) Brinkley Rothrock, 80, of Archdale, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Duke Medical Center. She was born on April 4, 1932, in Yancey County, NC to John Robert Brinkley and Bonnie Anderson Brinkley.
She raised her family and operated the Ramble Shop clothing store in Thomasville, and later founded and operated with her daughters TSR Sweater Outlet & Ladies Apparel in Greensboro, where she continued to be a part until her death. She enjoyed serving her customers and had a love for those that worked with her.
Mickie was a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church in Thomasville for many years, and currently a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She shared God’s love in countless ways to her daughters, family, friends and others and will be deeply missed by them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Frank Lee Rothrock. She is survived by her two daughters Tammy Rothrock and Sarah Wilson both of Archdale, two sisters Barbara Goodwin and husband Herman of Archdale, Genny Spanburg of Ft. Worth, Texas, a brother JD Brinkley and wife Frances of Mebane, NC and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. J.C. Alley officiating.  Burial will follow in Fair Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, Sunday afternoon, January 6th, from 2-4 p.m.

Clyde Curtis CooperTRINITY — Mr. Clyde Curtis Cooper, 71, resident of Trinity, died January 4th, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point.
Mr. Cooper was born April 14th, 1941 in High Point, a son to the late William Bryce and Mary Lee Crotts Cooper.  A resident of this area all his life, he attended of Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a skilled carpenter, building houses and cabinetry for over 40 years.  He also loved fishing and spent a lot time on Ocracoke Island.  A man of integrity, he was a loyal and trusted friend to many.  On January 1st, 2005, he married the former Vicki Campbell Lambeth who survives of the residence.
Also surviving is a grandson, William Bryce Cooper and wife Charlene of Sophia; a great granddaughter, Brianna Cooper; a sister, Judy Cooper Meredith of Sophia; two brothers, Roger and Gary Cooper both of Sophia; two step-sons, David Kennedy and wife Cheri of High Point and their son Cohen Hill and Chauncey Lambeth of Thomasville; his loyal dog, Rusty; and a son, Chris Cooper of Thomasville.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ken Spencer officiating.  Visitation will be from 6-8  p.m. Sunday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262 or to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 4512 Hopewell Church Rd. William Johnston
HIGH POINT —  William Bruce Johnston, Willie, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon in the loving care of his family. Willie was born in Jamestown where he attended school, raised his family, and ran his painting and decorating business. He was an active member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church for 63 years, serving the church in several ways. He is survived by Vida Hill Johnston, his loving wife of nearly 68 years. Together they raised three children, Ernie Johnston, Cheryl Hall, and Barbara Smith. Willie was a caring father-in-law to Martha Johnston, Earl Hall, and Billy Smith. He was also a loving grandfather to Lisa Freeman, Amy Smith, Crystal Morris, Scott Smith, and Lauren Johnston, and great grandfather to Lindsey Smith, Keller and Brewer Morris.
Visitation will be held at Cumby Funeral Home on Saturday evening between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at Hickory Chapel
Wesleyan Church at 2 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Guilford Memorial Park. Memorials can be sent to either Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church or Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for the caring and compassionate services rendered to the family, and to all others who have been so helpful in so many ways.

Paul LigonTRINITY —  Paul Edwin Ligon, 72, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  Visitation will be  foam 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior the service.
