WELCOME - Grant Reginold Lyle, 60, of Welcome, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center. Susannah Newsome
THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Susannah Matthews Newsome, 89, a resident of Thomasville, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Hospice Home at High Point. She was born April 26, 1923 in Guilford County, a daughter of Shuford R. Matthews and Mary Green Mathews. Mrs. Newsome was a 1940 graduate of Thomasville High School and earned a double major in Piano and Organ Performance in 1944, from what is now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was Secretary and Treasurer of Beverage Suppliers, Inc. from 1962-1997. She was a former member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club and had served as accompanist with many musicians and vocalists for many years.  She was a “people person” and enjoyed the musical and theatrical arts throughout the local, state and national venues. Mrs. Newsome was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the choir and had served as pianist for the R.L. Pope Bible Class for many years.
She was married to W. Frank Newsome, who died January 15, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Paige Newsome Whitten.
Surviving are daughters, Janet N. Abbott of Lexington and Laura N. Kennedy and her husband David Moose of Thomasville; a brother, S. Roger Matthews of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Chaille Adkins of Moundsville, W.Va., Sherwood Kennedy, Clay Kennedy and Franklin Whitten, all of Thomasville and Luke Whitten of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Abbey Adkins, Khloe’ Kennedy and Khalan Strider.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 3 P.M. in Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ivan H.M. Peden and Rev. Peggy Finch officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Christian Enrichment Center at the church. The family will also be gathering at the home of her daughter, Laura N. Kennedy, 505 Unity Street, beginning on Monday, January 21st.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 428, Thomasville, N.C. 27361.

Frank Wall Jr.
HIGH POINT- On Tuesday, January 15, 2013, Frank McCoy Wall, Jr., 67, departed his earthly life. He was born on December 23, 1945 in Baltimore, MD to the late Frank McCoy Wall, Sr. and Margaret Spencer Wall.
Frank and his family later moved to High Point, NC. He attended William Penn High School, and was a graduate of the Class of 1963. Also, he attended North Carolina A & T State University where he was a member of the band.  Frank later served in the United States Army.
He was a member of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife; Clara Randolph Wall of the home; two daughters, Angel McBee and Tara Wall both of High Point, NC; two sons, Byron McBee of Philadelphia, PA and  Alonzo Miller of High Point, NC; one step son, Micheal Bowles of Richmond, VA;  ten grandchildren; two great grandsons; two brothers, William Bill (Hollis) Byrd of Montclair, NJ and Gary (Theresa) Wall of Raleigh, NC; two aunts, four sisters-in- law, five brothers-in-law; one godson, one god daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013, at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, 4344 Blackberry Rd, Greensboro, NC.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and other times at the home, 1526 Graves Ave. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, NC.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point, NC.

ASHEBORO - Mildred Cagle Beaver, 86, of Asheboro, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carlene Edwards
HIGH POINT - Carlene Hill Edwards, 81, a resident of High Point, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013.
She was born on October 17, 1931, in Guilford County, NC, to the late Robert Hill and Sarah Weaver Hill. She worked for Dr. Charles Surles for 31 years, and retired in 1994. She was a member of Oak View Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir, and helped keep the nursery. Carlene enjoyed cross stitching, and caring for her family and friends. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband of 49 years, Charles David Edwards, 2 sisters, Gladys Parrish and Wilma Loflin, 4 brothers, J.W. Hill, Johnny Hill, Ted Hill and LeRoy Hill.
She is survived by her son; Philip Edwards his wife Linda of Clayton, NC, her grandchildren; Brooke Edwards of Greenville, NC, Blake Edwards of Raleigh and Drew Edwards of Clayton. Also surviving are a number of special nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Carlene’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, January 21, 2013, at Oak View Baptist Church, with Pastor Don Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the church.
