THOMASVILLE — Mr. Arthur Mack “Macky” Wardlaw, 60, of Thomasville, died on Friday, November 8, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 17 at The Church of Tomorrow, 906 Oaklawn Ave., Thomasville. The family is being served by Gate City Cremations.
DENTON — Mrs. Myrtice Surratt Byerly, age 85, of John Carroll Road, Denton, NC died Tuesday, November 12 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 16 at Lineberry United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home.
LEXINGTON — Garry Lee “Gary” Payne, 59, of Booker Ave. died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with family visitation a half hour before the service. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Service.
THOMASVILLE- Gloria A. Harris, 54, died on Friday, November 8, 2013 at her residence. Celebration of life will be held Friday, November 15, at noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Robert “Bob” Edward Simmons
SOPHIA— Robert “Bob” Edward Simmons, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on November 11, 2013.
Bob was born December 22, 1939, in Big Stone Gap, VA, to Ogan and Rosa Simmons and moved to High Point as a young man. He worked as a meat cutter for Big Star and Kroger for over 30 years. On June 16, 1963, he married the love of his life, Janie Beck Simmons, who survives of the home. Bob’s passion in life was woodworking and he made many beautiful pieces for his family and friends. He is predeceased by his mother and father, as well as his stepfather, Oscar Wentz, infant granddaughter, Sophie Layne Bryant.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by daughters, Debi Bryant and husband Tommy of Archdale, and Robin Loker and husband Jason of Charlotte; son, Ryan Simmons and wife Elizabeth of Archdale; sister, Marion Lerch of Trinity; brothers, Kenneth Wentz of Thomasville and James Simmons and wife Minda of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Olivia, Graham, Owen, Lily, Isaac, Wyatt, and Levi; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Friday, November 15 at Springfield Friends Meeting, High Point at 6:30 pm with Pastor Ray Luther officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

Donald Ray Teer
ARCHDALE — Mr. Donald Ray Teer, 77, former resident of Archdale, died November 12, 2013, at Triad Care and Rehabilitation Center in High Point.
Mr. Teer was born in High Point on August 12, 1936, a son of the late Claude Raymond Teer and Ruby Sparks Teer. He was a resident of the Archdale area all of his life and was retired from Guilford County Maintenance Department after several years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Midway School Baptist Church in Thomasville. He was also a member of The Woodman of The World.
Donald loved being with his family first and foremost and his church and their activities were a joy, along with helping others. His hobby was repairing old and broken small engines, making them like new. In 1964 he married Madeline Troxel Teer, who preceded him in death in 2012. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Teer.
Surviving, are daughter Donna Teer Moorefield and husband Jimmy of Archdale, son Timothy Wayne Teer of Thomasville, daughter Cynthia Teer, also of Thomasville; stepson; Greg Wade of High Point; four grandchildren; Amber Moorefield, Joseph Moorefield of Archdale; Leon McCrosky Jr. of Sophia and Kyle Wade of Trinity; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Teer will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Pastor Robert Walker. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles “Charlie” Robert Luster
CHARLOTTE — Charles “Charlie” Robert Luster born August 31, 1948 was called to his eternal rest on Monday, November 4, 2013 in Charlotte, NC.
He is survived by his wife Joycelynn Luster; daughters,Tanika M. Kelly, Tanisha M Cox, and Bridgette M. Haith; sons, Maurice A Luster, C Michael Luster, D Khaleeb Luster, J. Jacob Luster, and Brian L. Haith Sr.; eight grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held November 15, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Harvest Institute, 5522 Statesville Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269.

Lex McCullough, Jr.
HIGH POINT – Mr. Lex McCullough, Jr., 66, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point, NC.
Roger Greer Taylor, Sr.
HIGH POINT- Roger Greer Taylor, Sr., 91, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from complications of chronic health concerns. He was the loving husband of the late Mildred Jones Oliver Taylor to whom he was married to for 21 years on November 11, 2012.
Roger was born in Burlington, North Carolina, a son of the late Henry Marvin and Ne-Plus Ultra Greer Taylor, and moved to High Point two years later with his family. He graduated from High Point High School, serving as president of the statewide student council his senior year. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1943, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He married his first wife, Eloise Rankin in 1943.
Roger served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946 as the officer in charge of government-supplied material to Hughes Aircraft factory in Los Angeles, which produced four airplanes every 15 minutes.
After the war, he returned to High Point and worked with the dry cleaning side of the family businesses, Sartin’s Dry Cleaning and Dutch Laundry.
He loved big band music, dancing, and travel with family and friends.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his beloved sons, Roger Greer Taylor, Jr., and Bruce Rankin Taylor; two granddaughters, Brooke Taylor Saintsing and her husband, David, and Lindsay Taylor Jones and her husband, Kody; five great-grandchildren Erica Saintsing, Katie Saintsing, Royal Saintsing, Griffin Jones, and Eloise Jones. His loving family also includes ex-daughter-in-law Martha Webster; daughters-in-law Fanny Taylor and Teresa Taylor; stepdaughters Edna Oliver Lyles, Barbara Oliver Strupe, and Lisa Oliver Carter; step-grandchildren Meredyth Lyles Corey, Elizabeth Lyles Shores, Kyle Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Joseph Milinovich and Cassandra Carter; and six step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ella Lou Wann, her husband Harold, and their daughter Marilyn Wann, as well as by sister-in-law Anne Taylor. All will miss his charm, honor, and good humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, H.M. Taylor, Jr.
A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.

William Thomas “Tom” Hutchins, Sr.
January 5, 1920 - November 12, 2013
William Thomas ”Tom” Hutchins, Sr. age 93, a lifelong resident of High Point died November 12, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on January 5, 1920, a son of the late Walter Lee Hutchins and Essie Robbins Hutchins. He graduated from High Point High School in 1937 and High Point College (University) in 1943 with a BA degree in English and Religion.
Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served as a 1st Sergeant. He served as a technical instructor in the Special Training Unit. After receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1946, Mr. Hutchins was employed by Crown Hosiery Mill and served in various supervisory capacities until his retirement.
He was a former member of the Lions Club, High Point Area Personnel Association and the Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his parents Mr. Hutchins was also preceded in death by a sister Olive Elizabeth Hutchins Myers.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Frances O’Lean Bragg Hutchins; son William Thomas Hutchins, Jr. and wife Nancy of Raleigh; grandchildren Melissa Dawn Hutchins Edlin and husband Brian, Ryan Thomas Hutchins and wife Erin, great grandchildren, Brian Scott Edlin and Caroline Joyce Hutchins all of Raleigh and one brother Kenneth Lee Hutchins and wife Sara of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends in the Asbury Room at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Friday from 2 until 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Alexander J. Ward and the Reverend Richard Howle officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Floral Garden Memorial Park.
