Dominick Abate II
CADIZ, Ky. — Dominick Michael Abate II, 43, of Cadiz, Ky., died Dec. 5, 2013, at his home in Cadiz, Ky.

Nellie Burrow
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Nellie Birdean Higdon Burrow, 84, a resident of 279 Sycamore Lane, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Brian Center of Lexington.
She was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Polk Co. Tenn., daughter of the late William Higdon and Cordilia Whitener Higdon.
She was formerly employed with Lampart Table Co. in High Point, NC and was a member of Love of God Baptist Church. Mrs. Burrow was preceded in death by her parents; sons James Edward Whitener and Jimmy Dole; daughters, Mary Jo Whitener and Judy Jane Whitener.
She was married to William Bill Burrow who preceded her in death April 18, 1999.
Surviving are, one daughter, Mildred Carver of Lexington; one son, Wayne Whitener and wife Annette of the home; grandchildren, Sherry Heafner, Renee Whitener, Christine Everhart, Patricia Grimes and Steven Ray Carver and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Love of God Baptist Church with Pastor Mike L. Orman officiating. The interment will be in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will be at the J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.

David Caldwell Jr.
HIGH POINT — David Caldwell, Jr., 70, passed away on Wednesday Dec. 4, 2013, at Genesis Triad Rehabilitation Center. 
He was born in Winston Salem, NC on May 3, 1943, to the late David Caldwell, Sr. and Beatrice McLaurin Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Caldwell and Carolyn McIver.
David attended William Penn High School. Later he entered into the US Army where he served his country during the Vietnam Era; and he received numerous metals and an honorable discharge. After returning home, he continued to serve his country with the National Guard of NC for over 20 years. He also worked at the High Point ABC Board and retired after 25 years.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 39 years Cynthia Caldwell of the home; one son, David (Nicole) Caldwell, III of Winston Salem, NC; two daughters, April Crawford of Albany ,NY and Lazaar Davis of Burlington, NC; four sisters, Edith (Michael) Fulton of Cameron, NC, Betty Adams, Jackie Cobb, and Demetrius Caldwell all of High Point, NC; four brothers, Ricky Caldwell, Michael Caldwell, and Daniel Caldwell all of High Point, NC; and John D. Caldwell of Springfield, MA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1116 Montlieu Ave. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC.

GREENSBORO — Jean Crutchfield, 85, died Dec. 8, 2013, at Spring Arbor in Greensboro.

Shirley Dozier
HIGH POINT — Shirley Greenway Dozier, 88, of High Point passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Westchester Manor.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lawrence Dozier, and her daughter, Vicki Harris and her husband Randall.  Also preceding her were her brother Herbert Greenway, his wife Estelle and their son, Howard Greenway; her brother Fred Greenway and his wife Era, and Shirley’s brother Quinton Greenway, his wife Launa , their daughter Shelby and their son Carroll Greenway, all of Elberton, Georgia. 
Also preceding her is a great-grandchild who went on to be with the Lord before birth. 
Shirley is survived by Vicki’s son, Bryan Shaver, his wife Charrissa, and their son, Davis. Also surviving are her sister, Mattie Lou Davis, and Shirley’s son, John Dozier, his wife, Charlotte, their six children and twenty-one grandchildren.  Also left behind are many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

TRINITY — Mary Lou Hanes Ingram, 83, a resident of Trinity, died Dec. 7, 2013.

TRINITY — Roxy W. Kinley, 94, a resident of Trinity, died December 8, 2013, at Graybrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Doris Catherine Craig Raper
HIGH POINT — Doris Catherine Craig Raper passed away at the Hospice Home at High Point on Dec. 8, 2013, surrounded by her family. Doris was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Chatham County, NC, to the late James Alexander Leonard Craig and Carrie Lillian Pendergrass Craig. She spent her formative years in Sanford, NC, graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1939. In 1940 she moved to High Point to attend the Burrus Hospital School of Nursing, forerunner to High Point Regional Hospital, graduating in September 1943.  On November 20, 1943, she married Howard Marmaduke Raper who preceded her in death September 27, 1976. Doris was a dedicated Registered Nurse and a credit to her profession. She retired from her career in 1976 last working for Drs. Tyson, Cross, Cross, and Bennett for twenty-four years.
Doris was a member of the Keystone Class at the First Baptist Church and active in the church throughout her life. She was a Life Master duplicate bridge player.
She is survived by two daughters Laura Raper Stroupe Barrier and her husband William Smith Barrier of Greensboro, NC, and Katherine Raper Hoover of Apex, NC.  Also surviving are her granddaughter Kathleen Stroupe Lyon and husband Thomas Ingram Lyon and their daughters Emma and Margaret of Raleigh, NC, and step-granddaughter Christy Barrier Moran and husband Gregory of High Point, NC.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Edna Earl Craig, Jane C. Creery, James Leonard Craig, Jr., and Jack Craig and her son-in-law Jackson Walker Stroupe.  Surviving are her sisters Lillian C. Poe of High Point, NC, Carrie Lynn C. Smith of Sanford, NC, and Shirley C. Mutter of Durham, NC, her brother William G. Craig and his wife Mary Lou of Lake Junaluska, NC, numerous nieces and nephews and her special adopted family Margrit and Bernd Loewenherz of Burdgorf, Germany.
Her service of remembrance will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in High Point with Rev. Tom Warrington officiating.  The family will receive friends for 30 minutes immediately following the service before interment at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Her family will also receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Dr., High Point, NC.

HIGH POINT — Annie Sapp, 75, of High Point died Dec. 8, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Thomas Shuskey
HIGH POINT — Mr. Thomas Franklin Shuskey, 60, a resident of High Point, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. 
He was born Jan. 23, 1953, in Gibsonville, NC a son of Worth Shuskey and Annie Adams Shuskey.  Thomas was currently residing in Rural Hall where his daughter was taking care of him.  He was owner and operator of Thomas Shuskey Heating and Air from 1987-2011.  He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1972-1976.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dave Shuskey.
Thomas is survived by two children, Jonathan Shuskey (Teresa) of Fort Benning, Ga., and Jennifer Johnson (Chip) of Rural Hall; six grandchildren, Danielle, Austin, Connor, Bella, Addison and Aiden; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Temple Heights Baptist Church in Trinity, with Pastor Fred Rife officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Harry Smith Jr.
THOMASVILLE — Harry Smith Jr., age 75 of Thomasville, NC, formerly of Mabscott, WV, passed away at his home on Friday Dec. 6, 2013.
Born on Aug. 11, 1938, at Fireco, he was the son of the late Harry Wilburn Smith and Mary Elizabeth Hodge Smith. Harry was the owner of Harry’s Appliance Sales and Repairs business in Thomasville, NC, for 35 years.  He loved the challenge of fixing appliances.
Harry served in the United States Marine Corps. Harry and his wife Ann loved to travel. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stanger.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna L. Lilly Smith, sister Mary Moore; brothers, Bobby Ray, Jimmy and Buster Smith; step son Donald Lilly, and 2 grandsons Ryan Alan Staffard and Michael Mahan, and one granddaughter Donna Diane Mahan.
Survivors include his daughters, Leson Smith and her husband Bob of Clearwater, Florida; Linda Stafford and her husband Randall of Maben, WV; step daughter Donna Smith and her husband Jimmy of Thomasville, NC; Three sisters, Lucille Connell and her husband Harold of Versailles, Indiana, Rosie Lindsey of Mabscott, and Betty Smith and her husband Thurman of Letart, WV.; a brother, Wilburn Smith of White Oak, WV.; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; God-Father to Michael Lindsey; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Church of God Family Worship Center, 224 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, WV on Tuesday Dec. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jesse Farley and Pastor Stacy Dingess officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park at 1915 Harper Road, Beckley. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Tuesday.
