LEXINGTON - Dorothy Virginia Brown Stallings, 84, formerly of Forest Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living Center. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter.

LEXINGTON - William E. “Bill” Mitchell, 90, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A memorial service will be on Sunday at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 14 West Third Avenue, Lexington. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
John Thomas Bare, Sr.
SOPHIA - Mr. John Thomas Bare, Sr., 71 of Sophia, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Baptist Medical Center with his family by his side.
John was born July 25, 1941, in Guilford County a son to the late Willie Bare and Thelma Griffin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Sikes and a sister Elizabeth Baily. On Sept. 2, 1972 he married the love of his life the former, Hilda Peebles. He was a member of Hope Chapel Baptist Church. John was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Hilda Bare of the home; four children, Tommy Bare, of Trinity, Mary Ann Johnson and her husband, Larry, of Thomasville, Pamela Reynolds and her husband, Terry, of Whiteville, and Angie Bare Martin and her husband, Gary, of Martinsville, VA; four siblings, Willie Bare and his wife, Norman, Rev. Joe Bare and his wife, Jeanette, and Rev. Jerry Bare and his wife, Judy, all of Trinity, and Linda Henderson of Seattle, WA; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 23 in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Joe Bare officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, at the Funeral Home.

LEXINGTON - Harold Dean Bolen Sr. age 68, of Winston Salem, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Jackson Hinkle, 85, a resident of Valley Road, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Lexington Health Care. She was born Sept. 11, 1927 in Mitchell County, Georgia a daughter of Thomas Stonewall Jackson and Sara Hilliard Jackson. She received a BS degree in institutional management from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. She served a Dietetic Internship at Kennedy Hospital in Memphis, TN and prior to her marriage worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, VA as a Registered Dietitian. She was an active member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ and was a homemaker. She was a member of several bridge clubs, the Phi Beta Book Club, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. On October 22, 1956 she was married to Harold Arthur Hinkle who died May 16, 1972. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Hinkle of Thomasville and Sara Helen Forbes and her husband David of Charleston, SC. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville by the Rev. Sarah Snell. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of service. CARY – Inez (Marsh) Hughes, 90, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Glenaire Retirement Living Facility in Cary, NC. She was the wife of the late William C. “Dub” Hughes, Jr. who passed away in 1999.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church, 2311 Westchester Dr., High Point. A graveside service will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Mike Eddinger and Ms. Carolyn Hopkins officiating.
Mrs. Hughes was born on November 26, 1922 in Lee County. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Versa and Elizabeth (Wall) Marsh. Mrs. Hughes, along with her husband, was owner of Hughes Jewelers in High Point for 35 years until retirement. Mrs. Hughes was a resident of the High Point area most of her life, until moving to Cary 13 years ago. She was actively involved in her church, Westwood Baptist where she was a longtime member, and her community. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Central Baptist (now Triad) Association. Earlier in her life, she practiced her skills as a seamstress, winning awards for her craft in her high school years. Family was an important part of Mrs. Hughes’ life; she was a woman of honesty and integrity who believed in making a difference in the world. Her family and friends will miss her occasionally sly sense of humor and her propensity to take “just a wee bit” of the best thing on their plates.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by one daughter, Dubba Kay (Hughes) Lucas and husband Jim of Cary; one grandson, Adam Lucas and wife Stephanie of Chapel Hill; and two great-grandchildren, McKay and Asher Lucas both of Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Walter B. Leonard
GREENSBORO - Walter “Walt” B. Leonard, 86, of Groometown died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Vickrey United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
Walt was a long time member of Vickrey United Methodist Church where he served many roles but famously known as the “church cook” for his famous hotdogs. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy and also with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He went on to retire from Alderman’s studio in High Point, while all the while serving the community wherever he could help.
Mr. Leonard is preceded in death by a son, Allen Leonard.
Walt is survived by his wife, Louise of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, F. Rahlo and Suzanne Leonard of High Point, Rick and Caroll Leonard of Greensboro; grandchildren, Walter Rahlo Leonard (Susan), Nicki Cole (Matt), Ricky Leonard, Jr. (Sheena), Kristen Werner (Michael), Jamie Mozzoni (Mark), Amber Parker (Jonathan); great-grandchildren, Tracer, Caylee, Austin, Trenton, Alexis, Rebecca, Emily, Savannah, Olivia, Blake, and Payton.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

THOMASVILLE - Katie Nealey, 76, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
Katie was born Dec. 14, 1936 in Columbus County, NC to the late Lucian and Sarah Jane Cartrette Sellers.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Linda Garrison and husband Bob, Brenda Friedmann and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren, Alischa Wilson and her fiancé Kenny Hall, Crystal Shoaf and husband Scott, Roby Clodfelter and wife Brandy; great grandchildren, Amber Williamson, Pamela Campbell and husband Joseph, Dylan Swaney, Cheyenne Justice, Chase Shoaf, Alex Shoaf; many nieces and nephews.
Katie lived a good Christian life. She was a very loving mother and was loved by all who met her.
There will be a visitation from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Thomasville Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at 1 p.m. in Holly Hill Memorial Park with Reverend Joshua Sellers.

THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Barbara Cornette Maynard, 90, a resident of May Road, passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Lexington Health Care Center after a brief illness. She was born on May 23, 1922 in Pike County, KY to the late Floyd Cornette and the late Edna Williamson Cornette. She was a homemaker and member of Lexington Church of Christ. She was married to Elbert Maynard, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving are two sons, Nelson Maynard and wife Betty of Thomasville and Larry Maynard and wife Lena of WA; one grandson, Ricky Maynard and wife Sheri of Thomasville; one great-grandson, Dustin Maynard and wife Ashley of Thomasville; and sisters, Lucille Walters and husband A.B. and Sylvia Manha, all of Belfry, KY.

HIGH POINT - Leslie Eugene Diener, 84, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 20, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leslie Henry and Lillian Marie Houghten Diener. Leslie was a Naval Veteran of the Korean War. He was an Industrial Engineer for Lorillard in Greensboro and volunteered at Senior Resources. He is preceded in death by his daughter Penny Marie Thompson. Leslie is survived by his wife Dorothy Campbell Diener of the home, a son Scott Diener and wife Lisa of High Point, a sister Corrine Ann Zienert of Kennesaw, Ga. and three brothers, Ronald Elmer of Abilene, TX, David Arthur of Troy, Mich., and Timothy Paul of Morency, Mich.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at noon at the Sechrest Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
