Veralee Canter Calhoun
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Veralee Canter Calhoun, 86, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Hospice Home at High Point.
Mrs. Calhoun was born in Ashe County, June 4, 1927, a daughter of Arvel and Lillie Hodgson Canter. She was a member of Midway School Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Glen C. Calhoun, four sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Hughes of Lexington, Sandra Jolly and husband A.J. of Thomasville, and Janice Wilkins and husband Ronnie of Shallotte; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, James Canter of Millers Creek and a sister, Reba Stanley of Elkton, MD.
A Celebration of Veralee’s Life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Midway School Road Baptist Church, 6736 Midway School Road, Thomasville. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont. Davis Funerals and Cremations is serving the family.

HIGH POINT — Mr. John Thomas Linton, 80, passed away July 9, 2013, in the Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Roberta Poe, 96, of High Point died on July 8, 2013, at High Point Regional UNC Health Care. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to People’s Funeral & Cremation Service Inc.
Mary Ann (Christian) Sedberry
JAMESTOWN — Mrs. Mary Ann (Christian) Sedberry passed away peacefully July 7, 2013, at Beacon Place in Greensboro. Her passing ended a seven-year battle with breast cancer.
Cremation services are entrusted to Triad Cremation Society. A memorial service will be held at Jamestown United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall.
Mary Ann was born in Altoona, PA, on December 23, 1945, and moved to Raleigh at the age of 5. She attended Cary High and Western Carolina University.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Frank; daughters Stephanie Carrino (Darren) of Greensboro and Janice Sherrell (Bob) of High Point; grandchildren Emily and Grace Carrino and Leah and Nick Sherrell; sisters Linda Thurber (Dave) of Raleigh, Marge Liggins of Raleigh, and Nancy Walters of Altoona, PA; brother John Christian Jr. (Mary Beth) of McLean, VA. Also surviving are her parents, John and Mary Christian, Sr., of Cary, NC.
The family would like to thank the home care team of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and the Beacon Place staff for their help and guidance.
Clarence Burrows Smith
HIGH POINT — Clarence Burrows Smith, 85, of Thomasville died July 8.
He was born July 15, 1927.
He is survived by his son, Dale Smith and wife Harriett; daughter, Susan King and husband Tim; predeceased grandchild, Victoria Smith; surviving grandchildren, Karly Danner, Dalton Hill, Kady Hill, Christy Taylor and husband Van, Dylan King, Jordan King; nieces Carolyn Hill, Joanne Farmer; nephews Harold Burrows, Richard Burrows, Sammy Burrows, Dennis Burrows & Micnel Burrows and many friends.
There will be a memorial service at 9445 U.S. Highway 311, Archdale, at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 11. An honor guard service will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday.

ASHEBORO — Virginia Lee Hancock Smith, 88, of Asheboro died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Randolph Hospice House. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 East Kivett St., Asheboro. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home.
