WINSTON-SALEM — Jean Etta Boulding-Freeman, 53, passed away on July 4, 2013. Arrangements are pending at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.

WINSTON-SALEM — The Rev. Harvey Y. Criminger, Jr., 84, formerly of Salisbury, died Thursday, July 4, at Winston Salem Nursing and Rehab after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at First Baptist Church in Salisbury.
THOMASVILLE — Margaret Edwards Crouse, 85, of Thomasville, passed away July 5, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
Born February 26, 1928 to the late William and Lettie Mae Edwards, Margaret was a native of this area her entire life. She worked for many years at Burlinton Industries and after retirement worked part time for Joyce Kinley Realty. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling with the love of her life, husband Willard Crouse, who predeceases her. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Trinity and was a proud member of the choir, as well as serving as church historian. Margaret was also a member of Methodist Women. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and shopping, and as a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Margaret is survived by children, Richard (Dick) Crouse and wife Jean of High Point, Marilyn Lanier and husband Tom of Winterville, Dale Crouse and wife Elaine of Clayton, Jerry Crouse and wife Helen of Thomasville; sister, Rebecca Nixon of Columbia, SC; sister in law, Ellen Edwards of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church, Trinity. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

SOPHIA — Mr. Charles Eugene Hulka, 74, of Sophia, NC, died Friday, July 5, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Forest Park Baptist Church. Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
SOPHIA – Mrs. Alma Hunt, 92, of 3807 Grey Dr. died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Grey Briar Nursing Center in Trinity.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Revels Funeral Home Chapel Lumberton with Mr. David Hammonds officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the chapel.
Mrs. Hunt was born in Robeson County, NC on October 27, 1920, a daughter of the late Braxton Hunt and Mary Etta Hunt. She was married to the late William Hunt on March 8, 1941 in Dillon, SC and he passed away on July 23, 1987. She was baptized as Jehovah’s Witness on September 10, 1950 and attended the Archdale Congregation.
In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Etta Lineback; a son, Charles Hunt; three grandchildren, Justin Owenby and Gregory Burnett and Evon Hunt; one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Burnett; five brothers; four sisters and one son-in-law, Herbert Burnett.
She is survived by three daughters: Sarah Owenby and husband Garry Owenby of Sophia, Doris Barnes of Atlanta and Cleo Burnett of Walnut Cove; a son, William Hunt of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Evelyn Jacobs of Lumberton, Caleda Ransom of Rowland, Glois Hunt and husband Kendall of Fairmont, Lena Oxendine and husband Delton of Wilmington; two brothers, Rucious “Skinner” Hunt of Rowland, Charles Hunt of Rowland; a daughter-in-law, Bessie Hunt of Rowland and a son-in-law , Larry Lineback of High Point; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Edith Harvey Lawing, 91, a resident of Gumwood Road, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice Home. She was born on September 27, 1921, in Spartanburg, SC, to Thomas Harvey and Annie Wilmoth Seay Harvey. She worked with her husband operating Tville Television from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and seven brothers. She was married to Harold Deaton Lawing who also preceded her in death on November 8, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, John Deaton Lawing and wife Debbie of Piedmont, SC, and Eric Wayne Lawing and wife Minda of Carolina Beach; and one sister, Rachel Poole and husband Pete of Roanoke, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Peggy Finch officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30, prior to the service, at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. THOMASVILLE — Mr. Frank Shields Murphy, 78, a resident of 135 Home Place Road, died Thursday morning, July 4, 2013. He was born January 8, 1935 in Davidson County, a son of Elera G. Murphy and Dorothy Samuels Murphy. He was a retired employee with Ledford Senior High School and remained an avid “Panther” fan, following retirement. He loved Ledford High sports, the UNC Tarheels and Southern Gospel Music.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, the Willing Workers Sunday school class, the Methodist Men and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Group.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Iris Marshall and Jean Kennedy Williams; and brothers, Lymon Murphy, J.R. (Chick) Murphy, Richard Murphy and Bill Murphy.
On July 28, 1973 he was married to Linda Allen, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Robin L. Murphy of the home; a sister, Marcie Murphy Freeman and her partner James Church of Thomasville, and other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 3 P.M. in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Murphy will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

HIGH POINT — Mr. James Norman Wier, 95, a resident of High Point, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013.
He was born December 11, 1917 in Guilford County, to the late John Wesley Wier and Annie Hancock Wier and had been a resident of this area all his life. He retired from Greensboro/ High Point Airport Authority (now PTI) after many years of service. Norman was the oldest member of Covenant Church United Methodist where he attended the Whitlock Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving with the Air Corps during WW II. Norman enjoyed farming and restoring old cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his infant son; James Norman Wier, Jr., and his brother; Charles W. Wier.
On September 27, 1941, he was married to the former Imogene Reynolds, she survives of the home. Also surviving are his daughter; Anita Idol and her husband Bruce of High Point, his grandchildren; Bruce S. Idol and his wife Shellie Ellis of Greensboro and Kanda Idol of High Point, his great grandchildren; Sylvie and Stella Idol and his faithful companion; Jodi.
A service to celebrate Norman’s life will be held Monday, July 8, 2013, at 11:00 am from the Covenant Church United Methodist, with Reverend Billy Rintz and Reverend Michelle Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 until 7 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service, in High Point.
