HIGH POINT — Mrs. Virginia Doorley, 76, resident of High Point died February 11, 2013, at Hospice Home @ High Point.  Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

 

Anna M. (Nika) Drozd
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Anna Mary (Nika) Drozd, 102, died Friday, February 8 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC, a Catholic retirement and nursing facility. She was the widow of Joseph J. Drozd, who died in 1966.  She worked for the former Loomtogs Garment Factory in Summit Hill, PA., and also Kidde Clothes in Lansford, PA.
Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Nika. She was a longtime member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, PA.  She is a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Society.  For 15 years, prior to her move to Maryfield, she attended St. Charles Boreomeo Catholic Church in Morganton, NC.
Surviving are a son, Joseph and his wife Helen of High Point, NC; two granddaughters, Becky Johnson and husband Tom and Jackie Herzer and husband Chris.
She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Joseph, Stephen, Walter, John, Michael, Frank and Peter; and two sisters Mary Skrit and Stephanie Rusnak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, PA.  Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Summit Hill, PA.  Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the mass.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Maryfield Chapel at Pennybyrn, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, NC at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday February 16.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the memorial fund of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 462 W. Lou Gobel
ASHEBORO — Mrs. Lula Lee (Lou) Eason Gobel of Idlewood Drive, Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, February 7, at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro conducted by Rev. Brian Gawf and Rev. Connie Weaver. Inurnment services for family will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.
The family will see friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.  There will be a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall following the memorial service.
Mrs. Gobel was born March 23, 1927, in Greene County, North Carolina, to Willie Thomas Eason and Lydia Jones Eason. She graduated from Maury High School, attended East Carolina University (ECTC) and studied at Pfieffer and High Point College. She received her degree in Nursing (RN) at NC Medical Hospital (NC Baptist Hospital). In 1952 she met Dr. William Kenneth Gobel at Baptist Hospital and was married to him October 4, 1953. They were together until he died in 2007 and were married 56 years.
Lou worked with Dr. Ken Gobel in his medical office in Denton and Asheboro and taught pediatric nursing at the Old City Hospital (now defunct) in Winston-Salem for a period of time.
Lou enjoyed reading (she was an avid reader), luncheons with her friends and most of all being with her family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro and Westminister Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Reviewer’s Book Club. She had served in the American Red Cross for 25 years. Lou was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years. She taught Sunday School at her former church, Central United Methodist Church in Denton, NC, and was also a former chairman of the  Church Altar Committee.
Mrs. Gobel is survived by her daughter, Lisa Stephanie Gobel Salo of Greensboro; sons Michael Jeffrey Gobel and wife Melissa Earnhart Gobel of Raleigh and William Kenneth Gobel Jr. and wife Reverend Karen Crowell Gobel of Greensboro; her grandchildren, Kelly Melissa Salo, Matthew William Arne Salo, Daniel Eason Gobel, Chloe Alexandra Gobel; and her great-granddaughter, Melissa Ollie Carolina Mishler (Mollie).
Lou and the family are grateful to Dr. Douglas Schutz, Dr. Christine McCarty and Dr. Munley in Asheboro and Dr. Burney and Dr. Moody in
Greensboro. They are also grateful to Hospice of Randolph County for their help.  Special love and heartfelt thanks to Denise Fox Brower and Bobby Parson for their loving care. Many thanks also to Megan Green, Syrena Lassiter and Ramona Creech for their help and compassion.

Carolyn Harlow 
HINGHAM, MASS. — Carolyn (Killebrew) Harlow, 56, resident of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, at home.  Born and raised in High Point, North Carolina, she graduated from High Point High School in 1974 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978.  After earning her paralegal certificate in Atlanta, Carolyn worked as a paralegal in Washington, D.C., and Boston before moving to Hingham.  Most recently Carolyn worked as a proofreader at Beyond Words Proofreading in Norwell, Massachusetts.
Carolyn was a devoted and loving parent, spouse, daughter, sister, and friend and a proud Tarheel.  An avid reader, she volunteered at the Hingham Public Library, both delivering books to shut-in patrons and working in the used book store.
She is survived by her husband, Jonathan W. Harlow, Jr.; her sons Jack Harlow of Arlington, Virginia, and Will Harlow of Hingham;  daughter, Leigh Harlow of New Orleans, Louisiana; mother, Kathleen Killebrew and brother, Terry Killebrew, both of High Point.  Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, George Killebrew.
The family would like to thank Carolyn’s doctors and caregivers at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for their diligent and compassionate care during Carolyn’s long treatment for multiple myeloma.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, Feb. 15, from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham.  A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held Sat., Feb. 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hingham Congregational Church, located at the corner of Main and Pleasant Streets in Hingham.  Interment will be private.

Paul James Horschler
HIGH POINT — Mr. Paul James Horschler, 85, passed away February 8, 2013, in Hospice Home at High Point. A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. The family will speak with guests following the service.


Thomas Hyatt  
THOMASVILLE — Thomas Melvin Hyatt of Thomasville, N.C., 72, a United States Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps passed away on February 9, 2013. As Tom fought a valiant battle and lost it to cancer.
He served as a U.S. Marine for 6 years. He also worked at various furniture factories in High Point and Thomasville. He retired from High Point Furniture.
He was born January 17, 1941, to James D. and Ethel M. Hyatt who preceded him in death. Along with one brother Guy, and two sisters: Ruby and Jean. He is survived by his four children and immediate family, Daughter Judy Hyatt, Son David Hyatt and his companion Kathy Hill (curly top), Daughter Teresa Hyatt McGee and her husband Billy. Son Mark Hyatt. Their mother  Hazel Hyatt who remained his friend til death. His companion of the last 13 years Ms. Retta Barnes. He has 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 2 sisters residing in Virginia, Betty and Lois.
A special thanks to his son David Hyatt for being his caregiver. Dad was diagnosed with Cancer on Jan. 28, 2013, and David was with him day and night until he passed away along with the help of Hospice of High Point.

Leslie Huffines Jones
TRINITY — Leslie Michele Huffines Jones, 46, died Sunday in Burlington. Born August 16, 1966, in Belleville, Illinois, she is a daughter of Robert Hunter Huffines and Lynda Briggs Huffines of Trinity.  She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Leslie is survived by one son, Cameron Jones of Elon; sister Elissa Cox and husband Tim of Archdale; and a brother, Hunter Barton and wife Vicki of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Caroline Cox, Kathryn Cox, Rachel Cox, Dustin Barton and Bailey Barton.
A memorial service to celebrate Leslie’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Green Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Frank Hensley officiating.  The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Heather Dawn Jordan
HIGH POINT — Heather Dawn Jordan, 33, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013. She was born in Guilford County to Charles E. Tinsbloom and Mary Ann Lindsey. Heather was a homemaker; she loved animals and taking care of them. She was married to Kenny Colon Jordan. Heather is survived by her daughter, Krista Ivy Simpkins; three sons, Charles Edward Simpkins, Joshua Kenny Tinsbloom and Seth Jordan Tinsbloom;  two brothers, Scott Eugene Tinsbloom and Charles Bradley Tinsbloom; and one sister, Candi Melica Ann Williams. Heather is also survived by many family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Friends Meeting, High Point, 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013. Burial will follow at Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery.

Kenny Colon Jordan 
HIGH POINT — Kenny Colon Jordan, 30, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Kenny was born in Guilford County to Kenny Taylor and Kathy Renee Jordan. He was married to Heather Dawn Jordan. Kenny was a graduate from Willow Creek Academy and was a self-employed tree surgeon. Kenny was an avid horseman, camper and loved all sports and nature. Kenny is survived by his parents; his sons, Joshua and Seth Tinsbloom and Noah Jordan; sisters Niki Jordan, Kenndra Dunn, Shanbreya Burns; brothers Jamil Boyd, Kennaree Taylor, Jeffrey Burns, and Justin Burns. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jacqueline Leonard
GREENSBORO — Mrs. Jacqueline Harris Leonard, 79, resident of Greensboro, died February 10, 2013, at Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
Mrs. Leonard was born September 11, 1933, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Jack B. and Donnie York Harris.  A resident of this area 69 years, she attended Jamestown High School and retired from Sears & Roebuck. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. On March 12, 1954, she married Paul Raymond Leonard Sr. who preceded her in death on November 30, 2009.  She was a wonderful mother who loved her family deeply.
Surviving is a daughter, Debbie Alwran and husband Blain of Greensboro; a son, Paul Leonard and wife Patricia of Archdale; four grandchildren, Kirk Barefoot, Kyle Barefoot, Donald Leonard and wife Amanda and Jason Leonard and wife Beka; three great-grandchildren, Brady, Eli and Rhyce Leonard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Woods, Rev. Buddy Fox and Rev. Stuart Noel officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Neal “Tuck” Morris
DENTON — Mr. Neal Larry “Tuck” Morris, Sr., age 76, of Denton died Monday at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Morris will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Vern Peterson and Rev. Sandy Young officiating.  Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Morris was born April 27, 1936, in Davidson County to Mood Alexander and Eunice Snider Morris. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. Prior to his retirement he was owner/operator of Morris Carpet and Furniture Cleaning of High Point. He was a former member of the Denton Fire Department and had coached youth basketball in the Denton area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Neal Larry Morris Jr.; a sister, Hazel Short; and seven brothers, Max Morris, Donald Morris, Garland Morris, Vestal Morris, Bob Morris, M.A. Morris and Richard Morris.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of 54 years, Imogene Walker Morris of the home; one son, Mark Walker Morris and wife Katherine of Arden; two sisters, Evadean Chandler and husband Benny of Denton and Evelyn Younts of Trinity; four grandchildren, Hayden Morris, Matthew Morris, Michael Morris and Kaitlin Morris.

HIGH POINT — Nikki Dawn Simpkins, 12, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013. She was born in Guilford County to Charles Dee Simpkins and Heather Dawn Jordan. Nikki was a student at Southwest Middle School. She loved drawing, gardening and riding horses. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Nikki is survived by her sister, Krista Ivy Simpkins; and three brothers, Charles Edward Hollifield, Seth Jordan Tinsbloom, and Joshua Kenny Tinsbloom. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
