HIGH POINT – Mrs. Lila Lavonne Anderson, 76, died Feb. 9, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

GREENSBORO — Catina Anne Daniels Davis, 40, of Greensboro, died Feb. 8, 2013.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Christian Church.
HIGH POINT — Anna M. “Nika” Drozd, 102, died Feb. 8, 2013, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield.

Billy Joe Elliott
HIGH POINT — Billy Joe Elliott “Papa”, 75, passed away, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sarah Patterson “Patsy” (Fowler) Elliott to whom he was married to for 56 years.
Mr. Elliott was born July 26, 1937, in High Point, a son of the late Sam and Carrie (Tucker) Elliott. He was the owner and operator of Elliott Drywall.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling with his family, spending time with his grandchildren, feeding the birds, watching Duke basketball, surf fishing, visiting his friends at Farlow’s Garden Center, and supplying produce from his garden to his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Elliott is survived by two daughters, Cindy E. Breedlove and husband, Dereck of Sophia, and Kim D. Ballard and husband, Gary of Archdale; a son, Steven J. Elliot and wife, Alicia of Archdale; nine grandchildren, Brittany Pendleton, Ryann Ballard, Carrie Breedlove, Haley Ballard, Caleb Breedlove, Carson Elliott, Gracie Ballard, Leah Ballard and Sammi Elliott; a great granddaughter, Savannah Pendleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
A celebration of life service will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve S. McSwain officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Papa’s “sisters”, Linda Washam, Doris Yaskerwicz, and Jonnie Springett for their love and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Baptist Church, 4872 Old Edgar Road, Sophia, NC 27350.

LEXINGTON — Noble Obadiah Hedrick, 85, of New Bowers Road, died Feb. 9, 2013, at the Brian Center of Lexington.

Margaret Lee Schafer
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Margaret Lee Schafer, age 92, died Feb. 6, 2013. Margaret was born Oct. 17, 1920 in Thomasville, NC. The eldest of four children born to George Hill Lee and Bessie Bevan Lee, Margaret was preceded in death by her two younger brothers Bill and Fred Lee, both of Thomasville, NC. She was the widow of the late Dr. Earl William Schafer, Jr. Margaret and Earl met while Earl was a resident doctor and Margaret a nurse at Bowman Gray Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. They made High Point, NC their home where Dr. Schafer became the first orthopedic surgeon in the area. Margaret stayed busy raising their four sons while giving unselfishly of herself to her church and community. Her intense passion for growing and arranging flowers was only superseded by her love for family and friends. Many will remember Margaret as always having a smile and something nice to say to anyone within the sound of her voice.
Margaret is survived by her sister Janie Lee Manuel of Thomasville, NC; her four sons, Earl William Schafer, III (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; David Lee Schafer and wife, Alice of Raleigh, NC; Stuart McCoy Schafer and wife, Kathleen of Mooresville, NC; and, Robert Bevan Schafer and wife, Andrea of Denton, NC. She is also survived by her three granddaughters: Sarah Margaret Schafer Holley of NY, NY; Anna Marie Schafer of Raleigh, NC and Kristina Marie Schafer of Mooresville, NC. She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many at Coventry House and Chatham County Hospital for their unending affection, kindness and care.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, Feb. 12th at 2 p.m. at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point, NC., officiated by Dr. Jim Wilson of First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 918 N. Main Street, High Point, NC 27262. TRINITY — Mr. Gregory (Greg) Dwayne Smith, 51, a resident of Trinity passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at High Point Regional Health System. He was born March 01, 1961 a son of Thelma Mann Smith and the late William Porter Smith. He was formerly an upholsterer in the furniture industry where he never met a stranger. He was a devoted father, loyal friend, and an avid bike rider. He is survived by his mother, Thelma Smith, sons; Chris Mullis and Billy Smith, daughters; Barbara Smith, Denise Saunders and husband Christian, Tricia Smith, Jessica Smith, and Beth Smith; a brother, Butch Smith; sisters; Sandi Blake, Connie Morgan, and Pamela Pascarella, and three grandchildren; Tori Smith, Leelin Mullis, and Bentley Smith all of which are from the Archdale-Trinity area.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at 5 p.m. at J C Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, NC with Pastor Randy Parrish officiating. Robert Max Smith
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Robert Max Smith, 83, a resident of 607 Longview Dr., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in GrayBrier Nursing Center.
He was born April 4, 1929 in Davidson Co. NC a son of the late Harold Smith and Pauline Garner Smith. He was formerly employed with AT&T and served in the U S Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, served as the church treasurer for forty five years where he served on the church vestry, and was the chairman of the ushers and did many other volunteer jobs. He was preceded in death by his parents and was married July 5, 1953 to Daney Melton Smith who survives of the home. Also surviving are, a, daughter, Angela Smith Ingram of the home; a son, Timothy Max Smith of the home; two sisters, Aretta Smith Tharpe of Nebo, NC and Betty Smith Beard of Oak Ridge, Tenn; two brothers, Harold Smith and wife Linda of Frisco, Texas and James Clinton Smith and wife Becky of Hayesville, NC.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Ken Kroohs officiating. The family will greet friends Friday evening Feb. 22, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Mrs. Doris Jean Rakes Teer
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Doris Jean Rakes Teer, age 79, of High Point died Saturday, Feb. 9th, at Hospice Home at High Point.
A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Teer was born Jan. 1st, 1934, a daughter to the late John and Ethel Burchett Rakes. She had been a resident of the High Point Area since 1962. For over thirty five years she worked as a payroll accountant at Freeway Foods in Greensboro. She also was, for the past eight years, owner of Piedmont Bar and Restaurant Supply Company in High Point and subsequent to that was also owner of The Pits in High Point. In addition to her parents Doris was preceding in death by a daughter, Cynthia Fawcett; four brothers, Charles, Ernest, Johnny and Carl Rakes and a sister, Juanita Rakes Rigsby. On November 23rd, 1996 she married Phillip E. Teer who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one daughter, Carla Beane of Oxford; one son, Carl Henry Priddy of Kernersville; three sisters, Betty Rakes of Lancaster, Kentucky, Judy Scott of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Phyllis Damron of Huntington, West Virginia; three brothers, James D. Rakes, Paul Rakes and Robert Rakes all of Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. LEXINGTON — Alice Hinkle Thomason, 82, of Bowers Road, died Feb. 10, 2013, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Second Reformed United Church of Christ.
Mary Jeanette Cecil Williams
THOMASVILLE — Ms. Mary Jeanette Cecil Williams, 57, a former resident of Carr St. in High Point, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Wake Forest Medical Center as a result of injuries suffered in a fire.
Mary was born in High Point, March 22, 1955, a daughter of Virgil Cecil and Velma Alderman Cecil. A lifelong resident of High Point, Mary was a loving mother and sister, loved her friends and animals. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Angie Williams; two brothers, Jimmy and Danny Cecil and her fiancé, Roy Lee Smith. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving is a loving son, Teddy Allen Williams; sister, Barbara Ann Cecil; four brothers, Dennis, Tommy, Wayne and David Cecil, all of High Point and three grandchildren.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Davis Funerals & Cremations Chapel by the Rev. Jim Summey. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other times the home on Carr St.
