THOMASVILLE — Majel Black Beck, 93, of Piedmont Crossing, formerly of Old U.S. 64 East, Lexington, died Feb. 1, 2013, at Piedmont Crossing. 
Funeral was held Tuesday at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ. Burial was in the church cemetery.

OLIVIA — Laura Rebecca Hall Thomas, 78, of Olivia died Feb. 7, 2013, at her home.
Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Olivia Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery.       
 


Karen Anne Sledge Trotter
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Karen Anne Sledge Trotter, 60, a resident of 1805 Shalotte Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at her residence. She was born in High Point, April 9, 1952, a daughter of Cornell Sledge and Reva Smith Sledge and had been a resident of the High Point and Thomasville area most of her life. She graduated from UNC-G in 1974 with a degree in intermediate education and was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Thomasville. She was a former employee of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District in Texas and had taught at Ledford Middle School since 1988. On June 26, 1975, she was married to Raeford Leon Trotter, Jr. who survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters, Erin Renee Trotter of the home and Cara Michelle Trotter of Arlington, Va.; a son, Kyle Boone Trotter of Chapel Hill; her mother, Mrs. Reva Smith Sledge of High Point. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville by the Rev. Michael Ester. Burial will be in Calvary United Church of Christ Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the home of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Trotter, 218 Creekmore Circle, Thomasville. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont and also the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their attentive care of Karen during her illness. William Floyd Vaughn Jr.
KERNERSVILLE — William Floyd Vaughn, Jr., 66, passed away on Feb. 5, 2013.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 9, 2013, at Union Cross Moravian Church with Pastor Don Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in God’s Acre at the church.
A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Mozelle McGee Johnson and William Floyd Vaughn, Sr. who survives. He was a graduate of East Forsyth Class of ’65 and later served with the US Army. He graduated from High Point University with a Masters Degree. He retired from the US Postal Service, as Postmaster of Clemmons. He was a Professor at High Point University and was currently teaching his 99th Class. 
In addition to his mother, he also was preceded in death by brothers Timothy and Dennis Vaughn.
Survivors include his son William Floyd “Trey” Vaughn, III and Olga of Colorado Springs, Colo.; fiancé Terri Kennedy of Kernersville; father William Floyd Vaughn, Sr. and Betty of Kernersville; brother Doug Vaughn and Karen of Kernersville; step-sister Belinda Bodenheimer; step-brother Ray Shelton; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church on Saturday.
