Carrie L. Banks
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Carrie Lovett Ballard Banks, 87, passed quietly at her residence to be with her Lord on Monday morning, Feb. 4, 2013. She was born on Sept. 30, 1925 in Richland County, S.C. to the late Eddie Johnson and Ada Harris.
In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifton A. Ballard, Sr., and her second husband, Pastor Eddie R. Banks, two daughters, Clair Ballard and Ada Ballard White; two sons, Peter Ballard and Clifton Ballard, Jr., and one special grandson, L. Lorenzo White, Jr.
She is survived by four daughters, Rebecca B. (Sidney) Waller, Gloria McCall, Shirley (Darrell) Pinson all of High Point, NC and Wilma (Ronald) Oliphant of Columbia, MD; three sons, Victor Ballard, Derrick (Angela) Banks both of High Point, N.C. and Damien Banks of Winston Salem, N.C.; ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Fletcher of Greensboro, NC and Thelma Jones of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Going Home Celebration will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Avenue, High Point, N.C. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, N.C.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point, N.C.

Majel B. Beck
LEXINGTON — Majel Black Beck, age 93, of Piedmont Crossing, Thomasville, formerly of Old US Highway 64 East, Lexington passed away Friday night at Piedmont Crossing.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m Tuesday at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Elizabeth Pendry Hedgecock
HIGH POINT — Elizabeth Pendry Hedgecock, 89, longtime High Point, NC, resident, passed away Jan. 31, 2013.
Born in High Point, NC, she was one of three children born to the late Bob and Ruby Weston Pendry. Raised in Sandy Ridge and Deep River, she was a graduate of Jamestown High School in North Carolina, Class of 1940. She attended Jones Business School for the two year bookkeeping program.
Elizabeth and J.S. Hedgecock were married in 1942. They were best friends throughout their 51 years of marriage. While raising her children, she was active as a 4-H leader, PTA president, Home Demonstration Club member, Girl Scout leader and Methodist Woman’s Club member.
The Hedgecock name was synonymous with building supplies and fine millwork since 1928. Elizabeth joined J.S. in the daily operation of the business in 1968. In 1998, she became president of Hedgecock Builders Supply Company of Greensboro and retired in 2005 at the age of 81.
She was raised in the Deep River Friends Meeting House of the Quaker Church in the Deep River Community. She, J.S. and children were longtime members of Lebanon United Methodist Church in High Point, NC.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, J.S. Hedgecock, Jr., who passed away in 1994, sister, Joyce Smith and brother, Dallas Pendry.
She leaves behind, her children, Jane Hedgecock, Yulee, FL, Anne Owsley (Mike), Fernandina Beach, FL, James Hedgecock (Elizabeth), Colfax, NC, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces, and nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home, Fernandina Beach, FL, with Pastor Rob Goyette officiating. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 4:00 pm until the hour of service.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church, High Point, NC with Reverend Drew Hellams and Larry Rayle officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.
Mrs. Hedgecock will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Tim James officiating.

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — William Everette “Bill” Lemonds, age 62, of Goose Creek, SC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday Feb. 3, 2013, at the Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center.
He was born in High Point NC on June 30, 1950 to the late Henry T. Lemonds and Ica Cochran Lemonds. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and Friend and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was Business Manager at Panama City Cycles, Panama City, FL. He was of the Methodist Faith. He enjoyed riding his bike and anything to do with cars, especially NASCAR racing. He loved to travel and take cruises.
Bill Lemonds is survived by his wife: Donna Lemonds of Goose Creek SC; sons: Michael Lemonds (Susie) of Goose Creek SC, Jeff Lemonds (Crystal) of Thomasville NC, Barry Wood of Calabash NC, and William E. Lemonds Jr. of Raleigh NC; daughter: Jennifer Carter (James) of Charlotte NC; brothers: Tommy Lemonds (Rachel) of Asheboro NC, and Jimmy Lemonds (Robin) of Gulf Shores AL; grandchildren: Grace, Michael Jr., Alona, Brendon, Nicole, Ashley, Allyssa, and Cassie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC 29406. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.

Mary Lou Nicholson
ALBANY, Ga. — Mary Lou Thornton Nicholson, 85, of Albany, GA died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital after a long battle with failing health. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jay Weldon will officiate.
Mrs. Nicholson was born Oct. 15, 1927, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Rex and Zelma Thornton. In her younger years she was the catcher on a women’s softball team coached by her father in High Point, NC. She married the love of her life on Nov. 19, 1947, and traveled with him and their children as a military family until her husband’s retirement from the United States Navy. In late 1970 the family relocated to Thomasville, GA and in early 2000, she and her husband moved to the Albany area to be closer to their children.
Mrs. Nicholson was a loving wife, mother & grandmother. She was fondly called “Granny” by her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed baking and cooking and was a caterer before retiring. She was the church hostess for several years at Dawson Street Baptist Church and was involved with the youth program. After moving to Albany, she became a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary and was a life time member of the Deep River Friends Meeting House, High Point, NC.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James H. Nicholson of Albany, GA, two sons, Larry M. Nicholson and his wife, Joyce of Marianna, FL and James M. Nicholson of Rock Hill, SC, two daughters, Cathy Stocks and her husband, Steve of Lee County, GA and Lisa Schexnayder and her husband, Dale of Albany, GA, her brothers and their wives, John and Virginia Thornton, Jack and Louise Thornton and Roger and Nellie Thornton, a sister, Delphine Thornton Surrat all of High Point, NC, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rex E. Thornton, a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Nicholson and a grandson, James Lloyd Warmack.

LEXINGTON — Derenda Thomason Everhart Smith, 66, of N. Leonard Rd., Lexington died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 in Hinkle Hospice House after an illness of 9 years.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 in Center United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. just prior to the service at the church, and other times at the home of Tracey and Tiffany Everhart, Holly Grove Rd., Lexington.
