Ronnie Ray Elliott
WINSTON-SALEM — Mr. Ronnie Ray Elliott, age 77, of 1220 Robbins Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House, 202 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, Va., to the late Curtis Howard Elliott and Edith Parsons Elliott.
Mr. Elliott worked as a long distance truck driver and he was a member of Trulite Baptist Church in High Point, N.C. He was also a veteran of the U S Navy. He attended Brosville High School.
He is survived by two sons: Steven Ray Elliott and his wife Lynn, of High Point, N.C., and Russell W. Elliott and his wife Cheryl, of Trinity, N.C.; one step-daughter: Carlene Scott and her husband Rick, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four sisters: Barbara Kirks, of Bowie, Md., Joyce Nanney, Rebecca Boulware, and Dale Curry, all of Danville, Va.; one brother: Alvin Elliott, of Danville, Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Mr. Elliott was predeceased by one son: Billy Carrol Elliott; and one daughter: Sabrina Bowles Murray.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Swicegood Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Ledbetter officiating.
Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Ulysses “Marion” Hiatt
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Ulysses “Marion” Hiatt, 84, a resident of 151 Hillcrest Road passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at his residence. He was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Davidson County, N.C., son of the late Ulysses Marvin Hiatt and Elizabeth Clemmons Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was the former Sales Manager at Advance Auto Parts Store. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member Trinity United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lawrence Dean Hiatt, Charles Leon Hiatt and John Austin Hiatt.
Surviving are, two brothers, Ralph Kerner Hiatt and wife Catherine of Lexington and Joseph Franklin Hiatt and wife Jean of Thomasville; a cousin, Katherine Elaine Bevis of Thomasville; three nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville.
The interment will be in the Thomasville City Cemetery with full military honors. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville and at other times at their respective homes.

LEXINGTON — Clarence Raymond Hutchinson Jr., 75, of Lexington died Jan. 3, 2013.

Ruth Marie Parker Johnson
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Ruth Marie Parker Johnson, 86, passed away Feb. 4, 2013, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield, following several years of declining health.
Mrs. Johnson was born in High Point, Nov. 10, 1926, a daughter of Roy Parker and Julie Moore Parker.  She was employed by area hosiery mills and retired from Dillard Plastics after 17 years of service.  She was close to her Lord and an active member of Temple Heights Baptist Church as long as she was able.  Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Johnson, Sr., who died Oct. 10, 1975, and two brothers, Bill and Ralph Parker.   She was a very loving person, who enjoyed flowers, gardening and corresponding with her family and friends.  Ruth’s love of her family was the most important thing in her life, and she always expressed this to her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Johnson of High Point and Frances O’Connell and husband Bruce of Norfolk, Va.; three sons, Eddie Johnson, Jr. and wife Patti of Trinity; Dennis Johnson and wife Wylene of Franklinville, and Tom Johnson of High Point; seven grandchildren, Gina Wright and husband Keith, Renee, Kelly and Hannah Johnson, Walter and Allie Johnson and Diana O’Connell; and two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Kylie Wright; a brother, Mack Parker and wife Linda Faye; two half-brothers, Warren and Gene Parker; a half-sister, Shirley Parker; special friends, Lula Tussey, and Toni Sink, who was Ruth’s coworker; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Pastor Pat Dixon.  Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until the service.  Online condolences may be made at  The family wishes to thank Mrs. Johnson’s caregivers, especially the entire staff at Pennybyrn at Maryfield who attended to her every need.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Gladys Mae McCurdy Jones, 84,  of 811 Cox Avenue died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Forsyth Medical Center.  A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Zion Tabernacle F. B. H. church.  The family will receive friends on Friday at the church 30 minutes before the funeral service and other times at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sheere (John) Mills, 608 Brookdale Drive, Thomasville, NC.  Public viewing and visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from noon until 6 p.m. at S. ASHEBORO — Ada Evelyn Lanier, 92, of Asheboro died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.

Robert Alexander Ledbetter
TRINITY — Mr. Robert Alexander Ledbetter, 82, resident of Trinity, died Feb. 3, 2013, at Randolph Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Ledbetter was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Winston-Salem, a son to James Paul and Allie Hinshaw Ledbetter.  A resident of Trinity most of his life, he was raised by Carl and Pearl Hill and later served in the U. S. Army and the Korean Conflict.  He also was co-owner of Hillsville Lumberyard and a member of Mt. Pleasant Community Church.  He was married to the former Jacqueline Heath who preceded him in death in 2008.  Also preceding him was a brother, James P. Ledbetter and a sister, Helen Leonard.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Ledbetter and wife Karen of Randleman and Van H. Ledbetter and wife Barbara T. of Randleman; a sister, Mary Wilson of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Robert L. Ledbetter and wife Jill, Devin C. Ledbetter, Garrett A. Ledbetter and Mark A. Stiles; two great-grandchildren, Georgia M. Ledbetter and Alexandria Ledbetter; and two best friends, Lewis and Linda Loflin.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  Interment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to Mt. William “Bill” Hugh Plessner Jr.
HIGH POINT — Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed peacefully, Feb. 2, 2013,  surrounded by his family. Bill was born to the late William and Estelle Plessner of Philadelphia, Pa, Jan. 17. After service to our country within the United States Marine Corp, Bill wed Dolores “Dee” Montague and became loving parents to three daughters.
For all of the items that could be recognized as accomplishments to commemorate Bills life, his greatest and most beautiful has always been the pride, commitment and unconditional love shown for his family.
At a later date, a celebration of Bills life will be held for family and close friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and admiration to Hospice of the Piedmont. Their compassionate aid afforded Bill and his family comfort, guidance and understanding through a difficult time. Helen Fritts Polk
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Helen Fritts Polk, age 91, passed away Feb. 4, 2013, in the Hospice Home at High Point.
Mrs. Polk was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Davidson County to Robert L. and Mary E. Lopp Fritts.  She was a graduate of Bryce Business College and was employed for thirty years with the 3-M Company, retiring in 1982.  Mrs. Fritts was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in High Point and the Rebecca Sunday School Class. She loved nature, including birds and was known as the “Flower Lady” in her community for her lovely flower gardens.    On Nov. 4, 1945, she married John T. Polk, who preceded her in death in February of 1980. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Edna Waitman and Alta Royals; and brothers, Terry and Roby Fritts.
Surviving are her sister; Gladys Beck of Lexington, and her brother, Thurman Fritts of Lexington.  Mrs. Polk is also survived by her step-son; Norman Polk of England, Arkansas and her numerous nieces and nephews.  Also counted among her loving family are her caregivers, Creola Little and  Benson Rogers.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1401 Heathcliff Road  in High Point with the Reverend David Olsen officiating.  Entombment will follow the service in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Kent J. Powell
ARCHDALE — Mr. Kent J. Powell, 65, of Archdale died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at High Point Regional with his family by his side.
Kent was born June 17, 1947, in Pontiac, Mich., a son to Joe Powell and the late Marie Tremper Powell.  In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a sister, Terri Carlson.  On March 15, 1997, he married the love of his life, the former Gayle Mathis.  Kent was in the auto business for 20 years and he was the owner and operator of KP’s Auto World in Bradenton, Fla., where he resided before relocating to Archdale nine years ago.  He was recently employed with Walden Security Services.  Kent was an active member of Archdale United Methodist Church.  He was a former musician as a drummer and an avid golfer.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend.  Kent will be truly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Gayle Powell of the home; his father, Joe Powell of Pontiac, Mich.; two daughters, Tonya Powell of Riverside, Calif., and Leigh Grimes and husband, Tommy of Archdale; one sister, Jacqueline Kramer of Foley, Ala., and a grandson, Porter Grimes.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Archdale United Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Stuart Noell officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Delores T. Stevenson
HIGH POINT — Delores T. Stevenson, age 63 of High Point departed this earthly life on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.  Delores was born on Aug. 4, 1949, to the late Janet Toms and John Cook in Bennettsville, S.C..  She received her  education in Marlboro County, S.C.  She moved to High Point and later became employed with Supreme Cushion and Harris Teeter for a number of years.
Delores dedicated her life to God at an early age and later joined Fellowship Bible Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and sang on the choir until she departed this life.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her loving husband of 28 years, John L. Stevenson of the home; six sons, Marvin (Gina) Jacobs Jr., Kenneth L. (San) Stevenson of High Point, Shaft D.(Erin) Jacobs of Tuscan, Ariz., Walter Jacobs and  Brandon O. Williamson of Kernersville, N.C., and John Johnson of Lexington, N.C.; one daughter, Camica L. Stevenson; four brothers, Earl Toms of Great Neck, N.Y., Lorenzia Toms, Michael (Chaney) Toms of Bennettsville, SC and Joseph (Alma) Coachman of High Point; seven sisters, Arbadella (Robert) Davis, Ollie Gray of Bennettsville, S.C., Joann (Tacoma) Toms, of Long Island, N.Y., Bernice Toms and Betty Bridges of High Point, Mary Galloway and Debbie Daumbia of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, caring and loving friends.

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Evana Sue Luther White, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.
Mrs. White was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Forsyth County a daughter of Roscoe and Esther Kearns Luther and had lived in the High Point area all her life.
She is survived by a son Geoffrey White and wife Heather of Fayetteville, a sister, Linda Zimmerman of Mocksville, Grandchildren, Carson, Adam, and Ashlynn White, nephew Wayne McCall and wife Ann, Great nieces and nephew, Jessica, Jared, and Brianna McCall, , and former husband Gordon White.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Westchester Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Peacock officiating.  Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at the Westchester Baptist Church.
