Willie Covington II
HIGH POINT — Mr. Willie Covington II, age 75 departed this earthly life on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on July 4, 1937, to the union of Willie and Elouise Townsend Covington in Queens, NY. He received his formal education from at Eastside High School in Bennettsville, SC.
Mr. Covington was united in holy matrimony to Ella Molden Covington. He was a faithful member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Covington was the moderator of the prayer band, where they would travel to nursing homes to pray and give encouraging words to God’s people.
Mr. Covington was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Darlene Covington and Ernestine Galloway.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories to his devoted wife of 58 years of marriage, Mrs. Ella Covington of the home; six sons, Oliver (Deloris) Covington, James Covington, Willie Covington III, Christopher (Felicia) Covington, Clement Covington all of High Point, NC, Jerome Ocean of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Diane (Darryl) McNeil of Greensboro, NC; Betty (Melvin) Jackson, Cynthia Covington all of High Point, NC and Bertha Johnson of Gibson, NC; two sisters, Ann McArthur of Maryland and Chelevia Morin of Raleigh, NC; thirty-seven grandchildren, fifty-five great grandchildren; a host of other family members and special friends although not named you where dear to his heart.
Homegoing celebration will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 906 Meredith St. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. GREENSBORO — Bettye Jean Nash Endicott of Jamestown, NC, died on Feb. 2, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 2, 1927, in Evansville, IN. She was a registered nurse with a Masters Degree in Health Education from the University of Evansville. Prior to her retirement in August 2000 she was employed as a State School Nurse Consultant with the Illinois State Board of Education in Springfield, Il. She was a member of the State of Illinois Professional Employee Union, Illinois Association of School Nurses, American Nurses Association, Indiana Teachers Association and many other community government organizations during her career.
Bettye is the daughter of Clifford and Dicy Nash of Wadesville, IN. She is survived by her close companion Robert Kovarik; her two daughters, Shirley Ann Simmons and her husband Brian, Sarah Jane Munoz and her husband Roberto. She has five grandchildren, Anna, Kimberly, and Heather Simmons, Daniel and Roberto Munoz, two great-grandchildren, London and Liam Munoz.
She had many close friends in multiple states. The family asks memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
Arrangements are by Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. There will be no Services at this time.
JAMESTOWN — Mr. Larry Joe Goins, 53, of Robbins Avenue, died Feb. 1, 2013. No formal services will be held. J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville is assisting the family.
ARCHDALE — Mrs. Lala Mae Craven Hilton, 89, a resident of 7180 Turnpike Rd. passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Shannon Gray Rehab Center. She was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Randolph County, NC, a daughter of the late Carl Craven and Zada Bodenhamer Craven. She was employed with Belk Yates of Thomasville, retiring with 40 years of service. Mrs. Hilton was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, the Mothers Bible Class where she was a former teacher of the Mothers Bible Class and the Victory Bible Class. She was formerly president of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Happy Bunch. Mrs. Hilton was also a recipient of the Laity Service Award. She was a member of the Singles are Special at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville and the Sunshine Folks of West End United Methodist Church and a member of the Lady Bugs. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald Wade Hilton; one sister, Evelyn Cooper; three brothers, Everette Craven, Thomas Craven and Claude Craven. She was married Dec. 16, 1944 to Mr. Coman Wade Hilton who preceded her in death July 31, 1986.
Surviving are, one son, Keith Hilton and wife Janice of Randleman; two granddaughters, Krista Hilton Garcia and husband Daniel of Greensboro and Aimee Hilton Turner and husband Michael of Thomasville; five great grandchildren, Mackenzie Garcia, Alexander Garcia, Lauryn Garcia, Kaylee Turner and Dylan Turner.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Prospect United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Dickens and Rev. Ardis Payne officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons funeral home in Thomasville and other times at the home 7180 Turnpike Rd. Memorials may be directed to Prospect United Methodist Church 5553 Prospect St. Archdale, NC 27263. DENTON — Mrs. Gail Ward McKay, 60, of Howell Drive, died Jan. 31, 2013. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
