Mr. Ted F. Beck
WINSTON-SALEM — Mr. Ted F. Beck, 76, a resident of Forest Creek Drive, Wallburg Community, died Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014 in the Hospice Home at High Point.
He was born January 28, 1938 in Davidson County, a son of James Beck and Terese Leonard Beck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Beck was a retired employee with U.S. Air in Winston-Salem. He was member of Zion United Church of Christ where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, asst. treasurer, deacon and on the Consistory Board. Mr. Beck enjoyed playing golf and as a musician playing bluegrass music. He also volunteered with the polls with the Davidson County Board of Elections (Wallburg Community).
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Beck.
On July 1, 1960 he was married to Barbara Bowers, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter Robin Beck of Thomasville; a son, Eric Beck and wife Denyse of Pawley’s Island, S.C.; sisters, Jackie Parrish of Thomasville, Judi Bullabough of Mocksville and Frances Vick and husband Carroll of Ararat, Va.; sister-in-law, Sybil Beck of Thomasville; brothers, James Beck and wife Ilene of Gastonia and David Beck and wife Sherry of Lexington; grandchildren, Nicholas Perkins and wife Lynn, Justin Perkins, Angel Perkins, Zach Simpson, Cody Simpson, Ansley Simpson and Peyton Simpson; great-granddaughter, Lily Perkins and special in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Zion United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. James Simonds and Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Beck will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

TRINITY — Dennis Martin Steed, Sr, 83, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
He was born on October 4, 1930 to the late Pearlie Steed and Anna Holmes Steed Knight in Trinity, NC. He was also preceded in death by his son, Dennis M. Steed, Jr., stepfather, Henry Jack Knight, brother-in-law, John W. Brown.
Dennis attended school in Trinity, N.C. and William Penn High School in High Point, N.C. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corp in 1951, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves until 1959. Dennis wed Patricia L. Young in 1956 to which they raised four children. Dennis was employed at Ralph’s Frames for many years, retiring in 1992. He was well-known by his trademark “THE SHOE SHINE MAN” and greeter at the College Village Barber Shop, until his health declined.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Trinity all of his life, where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Deacon, Financial Secretary, Church Bus Driver, a member of the Building Committee, Senior Choir and Men’s Chorus.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia Steed of the home; children, Denise Steed (Dwight) of Greensboro, N.C., Erica Steed (Rodney) of High Point, N.C. and Rodney Steed (Crystal) of the home, his hearts, Chyna Jacobs and Malashia Matthews of High Point, NC; sisters, Annette (Maurice) Holt and Lula Brown both of Trinity, N.C.; brother, Harry (Faye) Steed of Cedar Square, N.C.; aunt, Mattie Johnson of Trinity, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Trinity, 12504 Trinity Road, Trinity, N.C. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC. The family will receive friends at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church, and other times at the home.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service Inc.
