James D. Bowen

WINSTON-SALEM — Linda Kay Feree Howington, 66, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013.
She was born on October 27, 1946, in High Point to the late John Allen Ferree and Ruth Brooks Ferree and resided in this area all of her life. She was a 1965 graduate of Trinity High School and later graduated from GTCC with an Associate¹s Degree in Business Administration. Linda worked with North State Communications and later with George Clements Real Estate & Insurance. Linda and her husband of 46 years, Michael “Mike” Howington, established Teem Sprinkler Company of Winston-Salem, which she helped to build and manage into a successful local business. She was an active member of The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) as well as the AFSA Carolinas Chapter. Linda enjoyed going to her lake home, the beach and boating. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going to Tyler’s baseball games. She was very generous and kind to every person and animal she met.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Howington of the home; her sons, Scott Howington and his wife Carol, and Ben Howington; her grandchildren, Tyler, Cameron and Adrienne.
A service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Dave Mercadante officiating. A committal service will follow at Archdale Friends Meeting Columbarium. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Shannon Marie Kennedy
GREENSBORO — Shannon Marie Kennedy of Greensboro died on May 27, 2013, after a courageous fight against cancer.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 333 Springdale Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, with Father Brian Cook, celebrant.
She was born on March 10, 1958, in Winston-Salem, N.C., to Martin Hayes Kennedy and the late Ann Marie McCoy Kennedy. She graduated from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., in 1980 with a BA in English Literature, and also graduated from Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in Kernersville, N.C.
Shannon had a long career in the home furnishings industry, most recently as the director of marketing for the High Point Market Authority. She also held posts at Furniture Today and at the High Point Enterprise.
She was very active in Susan G. Komen Northwest NC, raising funds for breast cancer research. She was a passionate fan of Notre Dame and University of Alabama Athletics. She also loved to travel, particularly to Italy.
Shannon is survived by her beloved daughter, Erin Ann Moulson of Atlanta, Ga.; her father, Hayes Kennedy, San Antonio, Texas; sisters Katie Kennedy Schafer (Mike), South Bend, Ind.; Grace Morgan Kennedy, Charlotte, N.C.; Libby Kennedy Holt (Pete), Hope Valley R.I.; brother John Patrick Kennedy (Christin), Gainesville, Ga.; and sisters, Mary Kennedy Beebe (Ben), Roswell, Ga.; and Margaret Kennedy Bradley, Pacific Palisades, Calif. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Bobby, John, and Ann Schafer; Tuck and Hamp Kennedy; Bo and Megan Holt; Hayes and Jack Kennedy; Will and Charlie Beebe; and Hayes, Mac, Finn, and Jay Bradley. She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother Robert Hayes Kennedy.

LeRoy Reece Porter, Jr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. LeRoy Reece Porter, Jr., 61, of High Point, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Wesley Long Hospital.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at Covenant Church United Methodist, where he was a member, by Reverends Billy Rintz and Michelle Foster. A private interment will be held Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Roy was born January 23, 1952, in DeKalb Co., AL, son of the late LeRoy Reece Porter and the late Mary Ola Prady Porter.
Roy was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. He worked with VF Jeanswear for more than 25 years, starting in manufacturing and moving later to the Sourcing department, and most recently as Director of Sourcing. He traveled the world extensively with his job and was a tremendous source of help to his fellow employees and friends, always stepping in to assist others in completing their projects.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Payne Porter of the home; children, Simon Vaughn Porter and wife Elizabeth of Rockledge, FL, Benjamin Michael Porter and wife Heather of Greensboro and Savannah Nichole Porter and Emily Katherine Porter, both of Anamoose, ND; sisters, Beth Porter Morris and husband Andy of Birmingham, AL and Pamela Kae Orr and husband Morris of Albertville, AL; granddaughter, Genevieve Claire Porter of Greensboro.
Friends will be received Wednesday, 4:30-7:00 p.m., at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Ministry of Covenant Church United Methodist, 1526 Skeet Club Road, High Point, NC 27265 in memory of Roy Porter and in honor of Savannah and Emily Porter, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
