ASHEBORO — Ronald Cleve Byrd Sr., 60, died Friday, May 17, 2013. Triad Cremation Society & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
John William Clapp
TRINITY — John William Clapp, 93, of Trinity died Sunday at Liberty Wood Nursing Home in Thomasville. Born March 22, 1920, in Julian a son of the late Mamie Farmer Clapp and Benjamin Clapp he was orphaned at the age of nine. Early in his life Mr. Clapp worked at Piedmont Bottling Co. and then retired after 44 years from Burlington Industries. After retiring he had a second career spanning 18 years with the Archdale Parks and Recreation Department, retiring at the age of 87. Even then he still enjoyed working at home in his flowers and garden. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Clapp was married to Margaret Robertson Clapp in 1941 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Clapp was preceded in death by sisters Pearl Tripplet and Lucille Blackwelder of Greensboro, Mary Rice of Charlotte, Lucy Brickey of Hampton, Va., and a brother Daniel Henry Clapp of Greensboro.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Clapp Vinson and husband Robert, and two grandsons, Robert Stephen Vinson Jr. and wife Connie and Thomas John Vinson and wife Hannah, all of Thomasville. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Rachel Vinson, Natalie Vinson, Christopher Vinson, Noah Vinson, Jack Vinson and step-great-grandchild Braeden Fields and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Clapp will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale with Pastor Ray Luther officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Liberty Wood Nursing Center of Thomasville for their loving care of John.

Mrs. Marguerite Campbell Cordick
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Marguerite Campbell Cordick, age 93, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, in Pennybyrn at Maryfield.
Mrs. Cordick was born in Larksville, Pa., to John and Catherine Moran Campbell. She had been a resident of Binghamton, N.Y., prior to moving to High Point in 2010. Mrs. Cordick was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Binghamton, where she volunteered in various activities.
She was a devoted Republican and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Cordick loved her family and lived a life reflecting that love to others as well, as shown through her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Cordick Sr. in 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn Cordick Cormier and husband Joseph of Glens Falls, N.Y., and a son, Edward F. Cordick Jr. and wife Stephanie of Greensboro. Mrs. Cordick has five grandchildren, Amy Cordick, Jennifer Craft and husband Steven, Joseph Cormier, Andrew Cormier and Christopher Cormier; and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. John’s Catholic Church in Binghamton, N.Y., on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Cordick will be laid to rest beside her late husband in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Lehman, Pa., following the service.

Hazel Dorsett Davis
ARCHDALE — Mrs. Hazel Dorsett Davis, 85, former resident of 5172 Ridgeview Road, died Sunday in the Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
Mrs. Davis was born June 17, 1927, in Randolph County, a daughter of Truma and Florence Farlow Dorsett. She had been a resident of the Trinity vicinity most of her life and was a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furniture Company. Mrs. Davis was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was married to Frank Monroe Davis Jr., who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son; Steven Davis and wife Jill, of 4149 Craven Pine Road, Sophia; one sister; Mrs. Gladys Hill and husband Kenneth of Burlington; two grandchildren; Josh Davis and wife Brandy and Meredith Brust and husband Mike; three great-grandchildren, Kate Elizabeth and Carter Michael Brust and Jillian Lane Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Bowen. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of the son.
Pallbearers will be Dwight Walker, Jack Blevin, Jack Hughes, Jim Davis, Kermit Pierce and Russell Draughn.

WILMINGTON — Ila Vivian Cates Oliver, 93, formerly of High Point, died May 18, 2013, at Clare Bridge Hospice in Wilmington. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
HIGH POINT – Mr. John Lloyd Peguese was born on Nov. 1, 1938, to the late Bernice Lloyd Deberry and Ned Peguese in Marlboro County, S.C. John was called to rest on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at High Point Regional UNC Healthcare.
John attended Marlboro County public schools in Bennettsville, S.C. At an early age, he moved to North Carolina and made High Point his home. Later, he was employed by Jesse Jullian Concrete Finishing Company. He continued his occupation as a skilled concrete finisher for over 50 years and was owner and operator of J&S Concrete Finishers of High Point, N.C. John met his faithful wife, Izora, they were for married for 53 wonderful years and raised seven children.
He was affectionately known as “Bit” and was known for his free spirit and his love of blues music and Motown classics.
John was preceded in death by his eldest son, Ronnie Staton, and one daughter, Brenda Peguese; three brothers, J.C. Lloyd, Ned “Pete” Peguese and Archie Roy Peguese, and one sister, Grace Peguese Braddy.
John leaves the following family members to cherish his memories: his wife, Izora Peguese of the home; three daughters, Bridgette (Elijah) Kennedy, Sharon Patrick and Cheryl Peguese all of High Point, N.C.; two sons, Johnny (Regina) Peguese of High Point, N.C., and Rodney (Virnita) Peguese of Salisbury, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Monument of Praise Ministries, 1212 Pearson Place. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, N.C. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Elizabeth “Beth” Love Rothrock
HUNTERSVILLE — Beth Rothrock, 49, died peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.
She was born Aug. 24, 1963, to Frances M. Love and the late Melvin L. Love Sr. She grew up in the Newell Community of Mecklenburg County where she was an active member of Newell Presbyterian Church. Through this church family her strong Christian faith was nurtured. Beth’s faith journey continued at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, where she was a faithful member. Among her many interests at the church, the child development center and choir held a special place in her heart.
She was an honor graduate of West Charlotte High School and the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. She worked as a paralegal for several local law firms and for the last 12 years was employed at Duke Energy as a senior contract administrator in the Renewable Asset Division.
Beth will be remembered as a wonderful wife, loving mother, thoughtful daughter, caring sister, cheerful aunt and dependable friend. Her radiant smile, contagious laugh, quick wit and happy personality are several enduring qualities. She will also be remembered to many for her well timed words of encouragement and acceptance no matter what station in life. No matter what challenges life presented, she embraced with grace and tenacity.
Beth is survived by her loving husband, George Douglas Rothrock; son Nicholas Murphy Rothrock; mother, Frances M. Love; brother, Mel Love and wife Terri; sister, Melody Love-Nivens and husband Danny; nephews, Daniel Love, Jesse Nivens; niece, Lauren Love; aunts, Betty Klavins and Rosa Poteat; uncle Clarence Love and several cousins.
She is also survived by Doug’s family: brothers, Allen Rothrock, John and Britt Rothrock; sister Nancy Rothrock; and nieces and nephews, Abby Estes, Daris Estes, Elizabeth and Seth Buskirk.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by nieces and nephew, Grace, Edith and Danny Nivens.
A worship service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with a visitation to follow in the Wood Fellowship Hall.
