Shirley Rogers Archie

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Shirley Rogers Archie, 78, formerly of Terrell Drive died on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Woodland Hill Center, Asheboro, NC. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Johnson and Sons, High Point, is assisting the family.


Doris Juanita Austin

HIGH POINT — Doris Juanita Austin, 90, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

Doris was born November 16, 1922, in Randolph County to the late Frank and Myrtle Rush Hunt.

She and her husband, Jack, owned and operated Jack’s Grocery for many years. She loved gardening and cats. Doris was a very caring soul and adored her family. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Austin; son, Henry Austin; and daughter, Rhonda Austin.

Doris is survived by daughters, Sherri Webster, Dana McKitrick and Jackie Pryce; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Thomasville Funeral Home. A Chapel Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Jack Hurley Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point.

HIGH POINT — Rida Hollowell Ingram Boyles, 82, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. A celebration of life service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. Bernice Pearl Marsh Briggs

SANFORD — Mrs. Bernice Pearl Marsh Briggs, age 94, of Sanford, N.C., died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Carolina House of Pinehurst.

Mrs. Briggs was born on Jan. 28, 1919, in Surry County, N.C., to the late Robert Sidney Marsh and Nannie Anne Marsh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Clarence A. Marsh.

She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Sanford Business College. Mrs. Briggs was a lifelong member of Ephesus Baptist Church, served as a deacon and was active in WMU and Bible study. Mrs. Briggs worked at the Pentagon during WWII and as an accountant with Civil Service at Fort Bragg until her retirement. She received a diploma from U.S. Army Finance School in 1969 and various other awards from the Army. After her retirement, she was an active member of NARFE and provided more than 13 years of service through the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program. She received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 2001.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy B. Briggs of High Point, N.C., and Suzanne B. Kelly of Richmond, Virginia; and one grandchild, Christopher Kelly of Richmond, Virginia.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. David Boroughs and Rev. Robert Morrison officiating. Burial wlll follow at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

James Wayne Forbis

THOMASVILLE — Mr. James Wayne Forbis, 71, a resident of Burton Road, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, in High Point Regional Hospital. He was born March 29, 1942, in Guilford County, NC, a son of the late James Covington Forbis and Annie Hall Forbis. Mr. Forbis was formerly employed with Black Cadillac and served in the U.S. Army. He attended Oakview Methodist Church and was formerly a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and was first married to Barbara Lewis Forbis, who preceded him in death Dec. 28, 2005. He was married Jan. 8, 2007, to Brenda Davis Forbis, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Greg Forbis of the home and James Clark Forbis of High Point, NC; two step-sons, Bobby Simmons of Sophia, NC, and Wade Trieglaff of Thomasville; two sisters, Joan Tippett of Wallburg and Sarah Joyce and husband Frank of High Point; four step-grandchildren, Zach Simmons, Rachelle Trieglaff, Jacob Trieglaff and Brandy Trieglaff; and one step-great granddaughter, Lacie Trieglaff.

Henry Thomas “HT” Frazier Jr.

HIGH POINT — Henry Thomas “HT” Frazier Jr., 83, passed peacefully into heaven on May 13, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.

HT was born on May 16, 1929, a son of Henry Thomas Frazier Sr. and Lillie Patterson Frazier. On September 1, 1950, he married Judy Garrett Frazier, sharing more than 62 wonderful years together.

A lifetime resident of High Point, HT worked at Amos Hosiery Mill for 33 years, retiring in 1985, and he was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. He lived a full and wonderful life filled with love for his family and friends. He especially found joy in admiring his flowers and watching the birds that seemed to so easily find their way into his backyard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Michael “Mike” Frazier; one brother and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife Judy; son D. Thomas “Tommy” Frazier and his wife Kathy Lawson Frazier; grandson, James Michael Frazier Jr.; great-grandson, James Michael Frazier III; and great-granddaughter, Harley Nicole Frazier.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel at Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Dr. in High Point. Visitation will take place immediately following the service.

Joe Grace 

HIGH POINT — On May 12, 2013, God dispatched his angels to 230 Brentwood Street Apt. A, High Point, NC, to the bedside of Joe Junior Grace, 84.

He was born November 3, 1928, to the late Lester and Wilma Hamilton Graves in Bennettsville, SC. In addition to his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters and one grandson. He retired from Albert Roofing after 41 years of service due to his declining health.

Joe was a very caring man who took care of his family. He knew no strangers. He often took people in and helped them get back on their feet. Joe had a great sense of humor and loved to wear hats, fish and was an avid collector of various items. More than anything else, he loved his cowboy movies.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Helen Grace; 12 children, Joanne Jones, May Dockery, Jesse Grace (Shelia), Elaine Hairston of Greensboro, NC, Kenneth Grace (Vanessa), Betty Hayes (David), Felisha Gray (Russell), Faye Bailey (Ernest), Patrick Grace (Deborah) and Kathy Grace of High Point, NC.; Arkel Byrd (Mother Shannon Byrd) of High Point, NC; Corey Small (Dianne Smarr); one sister, Donella Graves Bennett; and one sister-in-law, Alberta Graves; and a host of grand and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Road. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and other times at 308-D Brentwood St.

Vernon Heitman

LEXINGTON — Vernon Mock Heitman, 90, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, May 13, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Grace Missionary Alliance Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the Heitman family.


Carolyn Bostian Hunt

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Carolyn Bostian Hunt, 75, a resident of Brightwood Drive, died Sunday night, May 12, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born on November 12, 1937, in Guilford County, NC, to the late Gerthrie Dane Bostian and the late Jewell Stewart Bostain. She retired as a nurse assistant/receptionist with Dr. Aderholdt and Dr. McFalls Pediatricians. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she previously had been a choir member and Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Jesse Thomas Hunt of the home; also surviving is her daughter, Lisa Hunt Fleming and husband Jeff of Apex, NC; son, Kenneth B. Hunt and wife Kimmy of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Morgan Fleming, Laura Shelton and husband Jeremy, Ryan Fleming, Halle Hunt, and Hannah Hunt; and a great-granddaughter, Avery Dane Shelton.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at Floral Garden Memorial Park. Mrs. Hunt will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg until taken to the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the graveside service.
