WINSTON-SALEM — Lawrence Julius Butler, 57, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The family will have a memorial service at a later date. Cremation services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.
HIGH POINT — Vida (Penny) Chatman, 56, departed this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at High Point Regional UNC Healthcare. She was born October 27, 1957, the youngest daughter of Ceasar and Inez Person Chatman, both deceased. Preceding her in death are four brothers, Henry and Marcus Chatman and Joe Louis and James McDonald. Her maternal and paternal grandparents are also deceased. She was a lifetime resident of High Point. Penny attended the local schools and graduated from High Point Central High School. She was a former employee of Royal Development Company and Shipman Home Care. Penny, as she was fondly called, opened her door to anyone in need. Countless ones have lodged in her home and on her front porch.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Kyera Scott, her son, Carl H. Scott Jr., two grandchildren, Jalen and Sanquez Nance, four sisters, Diane White, Gladys Avery, Bronna (Tommy) Middlebrooks, all of High Point, and Carolyn Sellars of Somerset, N.J., two brothers, Donald Chatman and Ceasar Chatman of the home, three aunts, Johnnie McMaster of High Point, Ethel Hamilton, Mila Fox of Vass, N.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc. HIGH POINT — Dorothy Ledwell Chestnut “Dot,” of 1727 Stoneybrook Drive, died on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at her residence. Dorothy was born May 21, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Herman and Lucille Belle Ledwell. She graduated from Randolph High School, Liberty N.C., and Maco Beauty College, Greensboro, N.C. She earned a Bachelors degree of Arts in Beauty Culture. She attended High Point University and GTCC. She retired from High Point Bank and Trust Company after 25 years of Service in 2004. Retired from cosmetology in 2010 after practicing for 50 years. Dot was an avid giver to charitable organizations which included the Heart fund, Cancer fund, United Way and Relay for Life Program.
Dorothy was a member of Greater First United Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Sanctuary choir, United Voices choir, MP Browne Community choir and former President of the Daughters of Dorcus Missionary Group. She was a member of the North Carolina State Beauticians and Cosmetologists Association, Inc., Junior Executive Board and former President and Member of the Piedmont Cosmetologists Club: Chapter 7 High Point, N.C.
In addition to her parents, seven brothers and sisters have preceded her in death. Loving Family members to cherish her memory are Husband, James Chestnut, of the home, two daughters, Edwina Chestnut-Louis (Benito) of Roselle Park, N.J., Yolanda Chestnut-Ruffin (Joseph) of Plainfield N.J., three Grandsons of whom she loved dearly: Isaiah, Benoit, and Aaron Chestnut-Louis. Two Brothers, Clyde Ledwell of Greensboro and Charles Ledwell of Asheboro. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be 1 p.m. at Greater First United Baptist Church, 1409 Deep River Rd. Family visitation will be at the church 12:30 to 1 p.m. and other times at the residence. GREENSBORO — Ms. Amelia Ann Perry Eller, 74, resident of Greensboro, died March 29, 2014, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Ms. Eller was born June 5, 1939, in Guilford County, a daughter to the late Wade and Lillian Emerson Perry, and attended Albuquerque High School. A resident of this area since 1961, she had worked at Pioneer Family Restaurant and later retired from UNIFI. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her two sons, Steve Eller of Greensboro and Michael Eller of Trinity, one brother, David Perry of Albuquerque, two grandchildren, Corey Eller and Allison Eller, and one great granddaughter, Emma Eller. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Perry. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, 121 S.W. Cloverleaf Pl. HIGH POINT — Mr. Roberto Marinelli, 41, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Hospice Home at High Point with his loving family by his side. Mr. Marinelli was born on February 7, 1973, in High Point, a son of Gabriel and Christel (Guttmann) Marinelli of High Point. He attended T. Wingate Andrews High School and was self-employed in the automobile industry. He was of Christian faith. Mr. Marinelli enjoyed spending time with his family and detailing and working on cars and motorcycles in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Sebastian Marinelli, of High Point, three brothers, Andreas Marinelli Sr. and his fiancé, Lynn Ruppard, of High Point, Marco Marinelli and his wife, Regina, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Marcello Marinelli and his fiancé, Victoria Smith, of High Point, a sister, Martina Vega and her husband, Daniel, of Kernersville, two nephews, six nieces, two great nephews and two great nieces.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Floral Garden Memorial Park with Minister Andre Marinelli Jr. and Pastor Jeremy Linville officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point. HIGH POINT — Mr. Billy Michael Patterson, 64, resident of High Point, died March 31, 2014, at his home. Mr. Patterson was born July 3, 1949, in High Point, a son to the late George Ralph and Anna Bell Estes Patterson. He worked at Valspar and Akzo-Nobel as a color stylist for furniture coatings. He continued in this profession for a number of years all over the world. On June 31, 1990, he married the former Cynthia Staton who survives of the residence. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Langley Elliott Jr., and a sister, Peggy Joyce.
Also surviving are three children, Billy Michael Patterson Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Daniel Caldwell Patterson of High Point and Brooks Staton Elliott of Greensboro, a brother, Roy Patterson and wife Joyce, a sister, Jeanette Brackett and husband, Bobby, of Trinity, and four grandchildren, Ethan Elliott, Langley Elliott, Miller Patterson and Harlow Elliott. Luna Belle Rogers
HIGH POINT — Luna Belle King Rogers, of High Point, passed away on March 30, 2014. Mrs. Rogers was born in Wake County on August 5, 1918, to the late Charles William King and Flonnie Bell Sherron King. She was the first of six children. Mrs. Rogers was an active and long-time member of Westchester Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She also loved flowers and enjoyed taking care of her yard.
While working in Durham, she met and later married Ernest Thurston Rogers in January, 1943. He was a decorated World War II soldier and died in a plane crash in October, 1945. They had two daughters, Pam Rogers Moser and the late Miggie Alice Rogers. Besides her beloved husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian King Calamaris and Albertine King Clark, and one brother, David Lee King. Survivors include Mrs. Rogers’s daughter, Pam, her son-in-law, Joel Moser and granddaughter, Joey Moser Thomas, of Charlotte, and two sisters, Lois Halipilias Robinson of High Point and Barbara King Woolf, and brother-in-law, Jimmy W. Woolf of Titusville, Fla.
Mrs. Rogers was living at Westchester Manor of High Point when she passed away. Her family appreciates the help and kindness her caregivers provided her for the last two years along with the wonderful staff at Hospice House of High Point. A graveside service will be held for her at Floral Garden Memorial Park, High Point, N.C. on April 2, 2014. Her nephew, Rev. Charles Halipilias, will conduct the 11 a.m. service. THOMASVILLE — Mr. James Ellis “Jimmy” Samuels Jr., age 70, a resident of 1855 Stemp Everhart Rd., walked into heaven to be with his Lord and Saviour, Monday, March 31, 2014, at his residence. He was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Guilford County, a son of the late James Ellis Samuels Sr. and Dora Ruth Kennon Samuels. Mr. Samuels was a retired employee of Parkdale Mills formerly Amazon Cotton Mill as a supervisor with 42 years of service. He was a member of Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Samuels.
On December 23, 1963, he married Latonia “Toni” Moose Samuels, who survives of the home. Also surviving are three daughters, Misty Mullins and husband, Jeff, of Thomasville, Donna Loman and husband, Randy, and Wendy Samuels, all of Lexington, sister, Linda Huskins and husband, Richard, of Goldsboro, two brothers, Randall Samuels and Billy Ray Samuels, both of Thomasville, six grandchildren, Bradley James Mullins and fiancee, Ashley, Miranda Coleman and husband, Ryan, Nicholas Mullins, Colby Loman, Eric James Carver and Ethan Loman, and great-grandson, Caleb Coleman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Billy Parham officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
