Alice Scarlette Austin
THOMASVILLE — The soul of Alice Scarlette Austin went to be with her Savior in Paradise on January 6, 2013. 
Alice was born Jan. 7, 1936.  She leaves to cherish her memory: husband Albert Austin, 4 children: Kathy Laws and husband Ron, Russell Scarlette and wife Jackie, Rhonda Brown and husband Ryan, Kimberly Grey and husband Charles. 
She had 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  Alice had a kind and loving spirit.  She loved unconditionally and will be missed greatly.
Memorial Service will be held on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m., New Temple Ministries.

JAMESTOWN — Nancy W. Barnes, 82, died Jan. 8, 2013.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the families residence in Jamestown. National Cremation Services is helping the family.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Scott “Scottie” Burton, 45, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Thomasville Medical Center, Thomasville, N.C.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at First Missionary Baptist Church with a family visitation being held 30 minutes prior to the service. A viewing will be held Friday, January 11, 2012 from 1:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Thomasville City Cemetery, Thomasville, N.C.

Rebekah C. Cannon
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Rebekah Leigh Crouch Cannon, 47, of High Point, was called home to be with her Lord on Jan. 8, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.  
Beckye was born Dec. 9, 1965, in Johnson City, Tennessee. 
She lived in High Point as the loving wife of Sterling Cannon and mother to her 4 daughters and 3 sons:  Suzanne age 12, Vivian age 9, Clara age 7, Whitney age 29, Cameron age 20, Andrew age 17 and Griffin age 16.  Beckye was a wonderful friend, teacher and mentor to many.  She had such a kind and loving heart and spirit that she so willingly shared with so many.
Beckye is survived by her husband Sterling Cannon and their children; her mother Suzanne Crouch of Mauldin, SC; her father John R. Crouch and wife Judy of Taos, NM; her sister Alison Simpson of Monroe, NC; her brother Rob Crouch and wife Lynn of Greenville, SC; her aunt and uncle Vickie and Woody Huskins of Wautauga, TN and many nieces and nephews.
Beckye was preceded in death by grandparents Wendell and Evelyn Alison of Piney Flats, TN. and Wayland and Mabel Crouch of Jonesboro, TN; and uncles John Barton Alison of Johnson City, TN and Smokey Crouch of Jonesboro, TN.
Beckye was dedicated to and loved her job at Child Enrichment Preschool at First United Methodist Church in High Point.  She was a vital part of the staff and loved “her precious friends” in each of her classes.  Ward Street Mission United Methodist Church was also a passion for Beckye.  She loved her church and worked tirelessly as the Staff Parrish Chair, Chair of the Ward Street Community Resources, a former Trustee, Chair of the Annual Christmas Toy Drive, Co-Chair of the Annual Thanksgiving community dinner, Sunday School teacher and was also an active and vital member of the Piedmont Emmaus Community. Beckye’s hobby was making beautiful jewelry.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Ward Street Mission United Methodist Church with Reverend Anne Elmore officiating.  Visitation will be immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall or at the home following (1527 Sheldon Ct., HP).

HIGH POINT — Amber Nashay Carter, 21, of 1257 Hampton Park Drive, died Jan. 3, 2012, in Greensboro.

LEXINGTON — Berry E. Collins, 70, of Leonard Road, died Jan. 6, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church.

Ricky Foley
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Ricky Dale Foley, 55, a resident of Wishing Well Court, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. 
He was born on Oct. 17, 1957, in Columbus County, NC to Raymond Foley and Ola Buffkin Foley.  He was employed with Thomasville Furniture Industries Plant C before becoming disabled.  He was a member of Christian Cathedral where he served on the Deacon Board.  He enjoyed working in the yard, going to the beach, and taking his 1966 Chevelle to car shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Foley and a sister, Doris Rowe.
On April 5, 1980, he married Sharon Jarrett, who survives of the home; also surviving are two sons, Derrick Foley and wife Melissa, and Dustin Foley and girlfriend, Amy Daniels, all of Thomasville; brothers, Fentress Foley and wife Carol, Roger Foley and wife Joyce, Arnold Foley and wife Kathleen, Edison Foley, and Temple Foley and wife Barbara, all of Thomasville; sister, Linda Nealy and husband Lloyd of Shallotte, NC; mother-in-law, Louise Jarrett (Mee-Maw) of Thomasville; brothers-in-law, Keith and Greg Jarrett, both of Thomasville; and sister-in-law, Rhonda Snider and husband David of Lexington.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Christian Cathedral with Pastor Adam Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  Mr. Foley will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Jennie King Lee
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Jennie Louise King Lee, age 92, resident of River Landing at Sandy Ridge passed away Jan. 3, 2013, in High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lee was born May 20, 1920 in Bishopville, SC a daughter of Wiley Brent and Pauline Best King.  She was a graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, SC with a AB degree in Education and was elected May Queen.  Mrs. Lee moved to High Point in 1951 and eventually volunteered at High Point Hospital in the Soda Shop and enjoyed being a member of the Wake Robin Garden Club.  She was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served on the Wedding Committee, the Worship Committee, and the Christian Group.  Mrs. Lee taught the Senior Class of the Sunday School for 16 years.    She was twice married, first to Wallace Clifton (Tom) Brown, Jr. on October 3, 1941.  He preceded her in death on March 12, 1968.  Her second marriage was to William B. (Bill) Lee on Nov. 2, 1974.  He passed away on June 30, 2001.  Mrs. Lee was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, W. Brent King.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her sister, Miriam Smith of Williamston, SC; five nephews and three nieces and a step-daughter; a step-granddaughter, and many friends at River Landing and in High Point.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.  A Memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Friday at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Richard A. Howle officiating.  There will be a reception in the Asbury Room of the church following the service.

Lucille Lanier Lindley
HIGH POINT — Lucille Lanier Lindley, 88 died Tuesday at Thomasville Medical Center. 
Born July 4, 1924 in Randolph County, Mrs. Lindley is a daughter of the late Jerimiah B. Lanier and Maudie Mae Loflin Lanier.  Mrs. Lindley was a lifelong resident of High Point until moving to Piedmont Crossing two years age.    She was a book keeper for American Supply before retiring in 1975.  Her family was always very important to her and she was a caregiver for them in times of need.   Mrs. Lindley was a member of Montlieu Avenue United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lindley is survived by her husband of 58 years, F. Gordon Lindley of the home and six nieces, Betty C. Roberts, Martha C. Burrow, Linda C. Rhodes, Carolyn A. Walker, Susan A. Ice and Rita Wilson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lindley will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Guilford Memorial Park with the Reverend Roland Cavanaugh officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service.

Luther Carlton “Pete” Mann
TRINITY — Mr. Luther Carlton “Pete” Mann, 77, of Fairview Church Road in Trinity and formerly of Pittsboro, died Jan. 8, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Mann was born in Chatham County on May 10, 1935, the son of Joseph Carlton Mann & Pauline Ellis Mann.    He was a tank operator in Germany while serving his country in the US Army for two years.  An outdoorsman, Pete enjoyed playing golf, church softball, & salt water fishing, particularly at the Outer Banks.   A wonderful husband, father, grandfather & brother, Pete was a fan of the Carolina Tarheels & Atlanta Braves.  He retired from KAO Corporation where he was employed as a textile chemist.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Gail Burge Mann; sons & daughters-in-law, Karl & Shayne Mann of Pittsboro, Christopher & Karen Mann, of Trinity; step-daughter & son-in-law, Dena & Charlie Brown of Mebane; grandchildren, Dustin, Chad & Molly Mann; Joseph & Rebekah Mann, & Bella Brown; a sister, Linda Cooper & husband Leonard of Pittsboro; nephews Scott & Tracy Cooper; sister-in-law Carlene Burge; and a brother & sister-in-law, Don & Andrea Hyde.    In addition to his parents, Mr. Mann was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joe Burge.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from the graveside at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery in Pittsboro, with Pastor Jim Jones presiding.  The family will receive friends at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Jay Edward Perdue
COLFAX — Jay Edward Perdue, 80, entered into the kingdom of God on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge. Family will receive friends following the service. 
Jay was born in Pamlico County to the Late Zeb & Lola Perdue on January 8th, 1932. He was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Morgan and Gladys Hunt, brothers Horace Perdue (Hazel), Morris Perdue (Mary) and granddaughter Jessica Perdue. 
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Perdue, who was the center of his world. Other family members include; brother Fred Perdue (Laura), son Ronnie Perdue (Sherri), daughter Kimberly Jackson (Ken) and five grandchildren, Megan, Jayden, Kendall & Kristen Jackson and Jayson Perdue. 
Jay served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church. He and his brothers operated Perdue Brothers Auto Body Repair for 30 years, and later opened a car lot from which he retired. He was an avid square dancer and later a ballroom dancer. He was blessed with many life-long friends. Most of all, he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

Melvin C. Phillips
SOPHIA — Melvin C. Phillips, 73, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Hospice House of Randolph. He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Kathryn Ives Phillips, and was the loving husband of Mable Lee (Crotts) Phillips to whom he was married for 22 years.
Mr. Phillips was born on Oct. 25, 1939, in Trinity, the son of the late Ira Millard and Lena (Lambeth) Phillips. He was a 1957 graduate of Trinity High School and retired with Yellow Freight after 30 years of service.  He remained a member of Teamsters Local 391.
He enjoyed deep sea fishing, traveling, cooking, and attending to his 1.5 acre garden and supplying vegetables to family and neighbors.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Phillips is survived by a daughter, Karen Phillips Rollins and husband, Dennis of Charlotte; a son, Larry Phillips and wife, Laura of Sophia; two step daughters, Gwyn Liner and husband, Craig of Sophia; and Sherry Nazziola and husband,  Dr. Jerri of High Point; a step son, Greg Turner and wife, Shannon of Sophia; two grandsons, Patrick Brentley Warren and Drake Addison Phillips; three step granddaughters, Hilari Liner, Emmalee Eide and husband, Todd, and Lauren Holden and husband, Seth; two step grandsons, Tripp Nazziola, and Brandon Turner; a great granddaughter, Averi Eide; two sisters, Norma Kidd of Staley, and Cindy Oldham and husband, Sam of Mebane; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation to celebrate Mr. Phillips’ life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale.

ARCHDALE — Michael Van Royals, 60, resident of Archdale, died Jan. 9, 2013, at his residence.

Michael Torrence 
HIGH POINT — Mr. Michael Douglas Torrence, 50, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital. Michael, the youngest son of the late Edward D. Torrence and Mabel Lester, was born July 24, 1962. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother Edna Phifer Torence. 
A lifelong resident of High Point, Michael was a graduate of T. Wingate Andrews, Class of 1980 where he participated in track and field. He attended North Carolina Central University as a Business Finance/Accounting Major.  His most recent employment was with Vann York Auto Mall and Rifled Air Conditioning Systems.
He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories; four children, Michael Edward, Mallory, Matthew and Madison; one brother, Tonye A. Torrence of Belton, SC; two sisters, Sharon T. Mitchell of High Point, NC and Earlisia E. Torrence of Winston Salem, NC; a host of aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Ave, High Point, Point, NC.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and other times at the home, 1392 Bailey Circle.  Interment will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC.
