Elmer Jennings
ARCHDALE — Elmer Vernard Jennings of Archdale passed away Monday, April 28, 2014. He is survived by one son, James “Jim” Jennings, and his wife, Dorothy; granddaughter, Tabatha; and one brother, Eldridge “Harry” Jennings, and his wife, Brenda, of Lancaster, Tenn. No service will be held per his request.

Sheri Holcomb
TRINITY — An angel has received her wings. Sheri Phillips Holcomb, 54, has left us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Sheri was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma and aunt. She had a degree in early childhood development and she was trained as a CNA. Sheri spent the majority of her life on earth as a caregiver to all. She is survived by her husband, Chris Holcomb; sons, Cliff Holcomb and wife, Brandy, Cameron Holcomb and fiance, Kayla Garner; and daughter, Sara Holcomb.
Also surviving are her parents Bruce and Iola Gaines Phillips; sister, Kelly Phillips Spivey and husband, Harold Spivey; brother, Tyra Phillips and wife, Jennifer Diven Phillips; granddaughters, Amber and Alyssa Holcomb; nieces, Jacqui May, Candace Phillips King, Hillary Phillips, Madison Phillips and Rachel Jackson; nephews, Kevin Jackson, Chris May and Anthony King; great-nieces, Mykiah Walters, Hannah Walters and Ava King; great-nephews, Elijah Walters, Josh Walters and Nicholas May; her mother and father-in-law, Jennett and George Beal; brother-in-law, Derek Holcomb; and her beloved four-legged companions, Max and Hershey Holcomb.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on May 2 at Antioch Baptist Church, 3835 Bonlee Carbonton Rd., Goldston, N.C. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Relay or Life or a cancer fund of your choice.

Jean L. Chops
HIGH POINT — Jean L. Chops, 81, of High Point, formerly of Triadelphia, W.Va., died Saturday, April 26, 2014. She was born June 15, 1932 in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late George and Ida Mae Peterman Holman. She was a former member of Seven Dolars Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Chops, five brothers, Cletus, Harry, George, Edward “Eddie” and Donald Holman.
Surviving are her children, Greg (Tina) Chops of Huntingtown, Md.; Brenda (Jeffrey) Neidert of High Point; Maria (Dennis) Martin of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Josh (Erin) Chops, Emma, Megan, Kara and Matthew Neidert.
Friends received 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, W.Va. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, in the Bishop’s Chapel in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Blanche Burgess Craven
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Blanche Burgess Craven, 89, of Spring Arbor Retirement Home in Thomasville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014. She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Ashe County, N.C., to Hege Hison Burgess and Mary Caudill Burgess. She was a graduate of Glade Valley High School in Sparta, N.C. and attended High Point College. Blanche was a retired secretary in the banking industry. She was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, Pilot Lion’s Club, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Hodges, Eula Crawford; and brother Clint Burgess. She was married to D. Clarence Craven who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two brothers, Onley Burgess and wife Louise of Jefferson, N.C., and Connie Burgess and wife Katherine of Trinity; nieces and nephews, Lindsey Payne and wife Yolanda of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Angela Poole of Greensboro, Daphne Houghton Doug of Salisbury, Jerry Hodges, Jimmy Hodges and wife Carroll, Larry Hodges and wife Janet, and Mary Frances Roop and husband Jack, all of Beckley, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Calvary United Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Barefoot officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.  Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Nancy Kennedy Hill
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Nancy Carolyn Kennedy Hill, 77, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at her home. She was born on March 9, 1937, in Davidson County to Luther Franklin Kennedy Sr. and Faye Louise Everhart Kennedy. She worked for Carolina Underwear, Circle Manufacturing and Lexington Furniture. She was an active charter member of Colonial Baptist Church, where she served in the Women’s Missions, choir, and Senior Adult Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Franklin Hill.
In 1955, she married Dalton Lee Hill, her husband of 23 years, who survives of Thomasville; also surviving are a daughter, Lisa H. Moore and husband Marty of Thomasville; son, Brian Lee Hill and wife Donna of Thomasville; brother, L. Franklin Kennedy Jr. and wife Cathy of Tabernacle, N.J.; sisters, Glenda K. Poole and husband Lamarr and Angela K. Hall, all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Shane Moore, Lesia Hill, D.J. Heis and wife Brittany, Leanne Hill, Brittany Hill, Gregory Heis, and Spencer Moore; and great-grandchildren, Desiree and Peyton Rondon.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Colonial Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Jarvis officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hill will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Thomas Gomes
RICHMOND, Va. — Mr. Thomas Gomes, 88, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Veronica Gomes to whom he was married for 61 years. Mr. Gomes was born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a son of the late Gabriel and Flora Gomes. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Glenn Allen, Va. He was also very proud of his U.S. Citizenship which he received in 2006.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gomes is survived by three daughters Myra Rozario and her husband, Francis of Hamilton, New Jersey, Catherine Gomes and her husband, Francis of Fulham, London, England, and Ruth Rozario and her husband, Liberatus of Princeton Junction, N.J.; three  sons , Noel Gomes and his wife, Mathelda of Richmond, Va., Harry Gomes and his wife, Florence of Charlotte, and Mark Gomes and his wife, Emily, of High Point; 11 grandchildren, Mary Ann Rodricks and her husband, David, Rosemary Gomes, Francesca Gomes and her husband, Joseph, Savio Rozario and his wife, Geraldine, Victoria Gomes, Jonathan Gomes, Joshua Gomes, Veronica Gomes, Shirley Gomes, Russell Rozario and Leah Rozario; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Rodricks and Yohan Rozario; one brother, Bishop Theotonius Gomes of Dhaka, Bangladesh; three sisters, Monica Gomes, Agnes Costa and Regina Gomes, all of Dhaka, Bangladesh; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson Street,  High Point, N.C. with Rev. Vincent E. Smith O.S.F.S officiating. Burial will follow in Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery on Penny Road, High Point, NC. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. David Arthur Kriedler
THOMASVILLE — Mr. David Arthur Kriedler, 49, of Thomasville, passed away April, 29, 2014. A resident of this area most of his life, David was born on Sept. 15, 1964, in Maryland to the late David Rexford and Betty Johnson Kriedler. He was of the Baptist faith and had worked in furniture for many years. David especially enjoyed traveling and going to the beach.
Surviving are his daughters, Hillary Kriedler and Haylee Kriedler of Kernersville; his sister, Deborah Honeycutt and her husband Harold of Trinity; his niece, Nebraska, and his nephews Jason, Dwayne, and Dylan.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, with Rev. Randy Parris officiating. Yvonne “Bonnie” Hill
ARCHDALE — Mrs Yvonne “Bonnie” Geneieve Hill, age 80, of Archdale passed away April 29 in High Point Regional Hospital. Mrs. Hill was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Coalwood, W.Va. to Wiliam Carl and Dorothy Bethal Mabe Stovall. She was a 1974 graduate of Guilford Technical Institute with a degree in Nursing (LPN). She was employed with High Point Regional Health Systems until her retirement. Mrs. Hill was a member of Thomasville Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary A. Hill Sr., her parents, her foster parents Roy L. and Gertie Lawson; three brothers ,Rev. Willliam Carl Stovall Jr., Clyde Stovall, Gerald Stovall and a foster-brother, Masion Ray Lawson. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Roberta Stovall Riggs, a grandson, Joshua Allen Hill, a great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Kennedy, and a great-great-grandson, Malachi Glenn Hill.
Surviving are two daughters; Yvonne Diane Freeman and husband Eddie of Archdale and Sharon Kay Welch and husband Jack of Trinity; three sons Gary Allen Hill Jr. and wife, Teresa, of High Point, James Richard Hill and wife, Jennifer, of High Point, and Terry Ray Hill of Trinity. Mrs. Hill is also survived by her sister-in-laws Bridgette Stovall of Roanoke, Marcella Stovall of Kevonne, Ill., and Marlene Stovall of Phoeniz, Ariz., a foster brother, R. F. Lawson and wife, Zollie, of Woodlawn, Va., and foster sister-in-law, Katherine Stovall, of Galax, Va. Mrs. Hill has seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel  in Archdale by Pastor Allen Martin and Pastor Steve Hill. Entombment will follow the service in the mausoleum of Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. GREENSBORO — Randall Gregg, 44, an accomplished entrepreneur and journalist of Greensboro, died Friday, April 25, 2014, while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes of riding motorcycles. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Summerfield Baptist Church, located at 2300 Scalesville Rd., Summerfield, N.C. 27358. Jerry Bottoms Jr.
TRINITY — Jerry Franklin Bottoms Jr., age 75, a resident of Trinity, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014. He was born on March 8, 1939, in Guilford County to the late Jerry Franklin Bottoms and Mamie Dunlap Bottoms, and he had been a resident of this area all of his life. He was the General Manager for Malden Mills in High Point and retired after 28 years of service. After retirement, Jerry continued to work part time as the Manager of Rite Aid, and also for Smith & Shore. He attended Union Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Jerry enjoyed computer games, playing sports as long as his health permitted, and watching sports, especially the Carolina Tarheels. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Frye Bottoms, of the home; his daughters, Teresa Draper of the home, Janet Mabe and her husband, Keith, of Archdale, and Debra Winfrey of Wilmington, N.C. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael Long and his wife, Patricia, Matthew Mabe and his wife, Casie, Brian Long, Will Mabe and Jessica Guest and her husband, Doug; his great-grandchildren, Ella Long, Mason Mabe and Kaylin Long.
A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church in Carthage, with Reverend Kathryn Dudley and Mr. Scotty Mabe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday 6-8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
