James “Jimmy” Edward Oast
WINSTON-SALEM — James worked for Westchester Automotive and Hayworth Roll & Panel Furniture both of High Point, NC. James went home to be with his LORD and Savior on February 8, 2014. He is now living and enjoying life as GOD intended for us to live. He has no pain, no worries and he is laughing and smiling all the time. He is running the streets of gold and enjoying his mansion that Jesus prepared just for him. He is seeing his mother, Susie Smith, his father, Wesley Harold Oast, Sr., his grandparents Lillian Smith and John Smith, Charles Oast and Nora Oast and his brother, Walter Thomas Oast.
Waiting to go home to be with James is his wife Sandra Nicholson Oast, his ex-wife, Janet Forss Oast, his daughter, Pamela Oast Johnson and her husband, Adam, his son Bradley Eugene Oast and his wife, Brooke and his grandson, Emmett James Oast, his step children, Ashley Nicholson Pinyan and her husband Blake and Dennis Eugene Nicholson. Sisters Marie Oast Wages and her husband Richard, Janet Oast Livengood, brothers Wesley Harold Oast, Jr. and his wife Linda and William “Billy” Spencer Oast and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration Arrangements- Services will be on Saturday February 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Canaan UMC with Rev. Brad Wright and Pastor Doug Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church. J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg is assisting the Oast family. LEXINGTON ­— Martin Smith Young, 72, of Lexington died Saturday, February 8, 2014. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

Henry “Doug” Rider
DARLINGTON, S.C. — Henry Douglas ‘Doug’ Rider, age 80, died February 10 at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 14 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. A Graveside will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in Guilford Memorial Park in High Point, NC. The family will receive friends from 2-3 Friday at the funeral home and other times at the home, 825 Register Dr. Born in Guilford County, NC on September 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry Dempsey Rider and the late Amanda Swanson Rider. Doug was a very gifted when it came to upholstery, and made a living doing what he loved.  Mr. Rider enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially Carolina Panther football and N.C. Tarheel basketball.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Powers Rider, a daughter, Sherri Rider Marsh of Thomasville, N.C., two grandchildren, Jared and Brandon Marsh, step-children: Mark (Debbie) Haselden of Dillon, Sherry Odom of Darlington, Angela (Mark) Simmons of High Point, N.C., JoAnne (Nick) Fotos of Easley; step-grandchildren, Christopher Simmons, Caleb and Peyton Fotos, and a brother, Fred Rider. He was preceded in death by a sister, Orthel Turlington, a brother, Ed Rider, a son-in-law, Barry Marsh and a step-grandson, Trampus Odom and his first wife, Marie Medlin Rider.

Walter “Sonny” Lee Travis Jr.
HIGH POINT — Walter “Sonny” Lee Travis Jr. a resident of High Point, N.C. died on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born August 21, 1930 to the late Walter Lee Travis, Sr. and the late Opal Edmonds Goude. He was a graduate of Guilford College and the Wake Forest University, School of Law. He was a US Army Veteran and he practiced law in High Point for many years. He was a very passionate supporter of Guilford College and Wake Forest University in that all of his assets after expenses will be paid to Guilford College and Wake Forest University. A special thanks to his friend JoAnn Cox and her husband, Ken for the help to him over the years. Memorials may be made to Guilford College and Wake Forest University in his honor. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Floral Garden Cemetery Park at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Cathey Autry, 58, of Thomasville, NC departed this earthly on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Thomasville Medical Center. She was born June 12, 1955 to the late Albert Daniel and Christine Autry Wright. Cathey was a delightful person. She was a faithful member at Cornerstone Church of Christ. She is survived by four children, Angela Wright of High Point, James Wright of Tillery, NC, Audrey Pratt of High Point and Keisha Pratt of Union, SC; two brothers, David Wright of Greensboro, NC and Ronald Wright; two sisters, Loria Ann (James) Poole and Gloria Wright all of High Point; four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Cornerstone Church of Christ, Thomasville, NC. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Charles W. Moore
ARCHDALE — Charlie went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Moore. He leaves behind two sons, Kenny Wayne Moore of Athens, Tenn. and Charles James Moore of Pennsylvania. A sister Faye Thompson of Maryland and two brothers, Obie Moore of Damascus, Va. and Mack Moore and his wife Mary of Randleman, N.C. and Sharon Johnson a special friend and caretaker for seven years.
Charlie was a sprayer at Dar Ran Furniture for 22 years. He was a hard worker, a good friend and neighbor and he will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. The family would like to thank Hospice of High Point for all the care they gave Charlie and for their condolences. Betty Klass
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Betty Ann Surrett Klass, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 10, 2014. Betty was born on November 20,1926 in Guilford County to the late James Elbert and Hester Roseanna Davis Surrett. Betty attended High Point College and had worked as a Dietician and a Caterer. She especially enjoyed cooking and had a passion for serving meals to her friends and family. She was a Wesleyan all of her life and was a member of Holly Hill Wesleyan Church. While her children were in school, she served as PTA President and also worked in the school system where her children attended. She was the loving wife of Ernest Carson Class, with whom she shared over 65 years of marriage until his death in 2012. Most of all, Betty was a homemaker and a beloved mother. 
Betty and her family resided in Atlanta, Ga. for 30 years before moving back to Thomasville. She influenced many people in her life as a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Bodenheimer Richardson and Jackie Hale. Surviving are her three children, Rev. Mark Klass and his wife Rev. Dorothy Klass of Thomasville, Matthew Klass and his wife Linda of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Martha Melissa Foote and her husband Chris of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, James Meissner, Amanda Klass Marion, Lindsey Mullins Hankla, Jeremy J. Klass, and Lauren Mullins. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Tyler Baumann, Madison Hankla, Carlee Hankla, Noah Meissner, Ava Marion, and Ryan Marion; brother, Fred Surrett of High Point and sister-in-law, Jewel Rollins Hepler of Thomasville. 
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Holly Hill Wesleyan Church, 202 W. Holly Hill Rd., Thomasville, with Rev. Mark Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, February 15 at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street. Doris Bates
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Baldwin Bates, 83, of Thomasville, died peacefully in her sleep February 10 at Hospice Home of High Point. Dorsy will be remembered for her love of children. She began teaching Sunday School at age 12 and only stopped in recent years due to declining health. She operated Dorsy’s Nursery for many years and was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was active in the Thomasville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and later the Spencer Chapter, holding numerous offices, including Worthy Matron. Dorsy was born to the late Harley C. and Lorena Baldwin.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Murphy Lowe Bates Jr. of Thomasville. She was preceded in death by son Douglas Crawford Bates. Also surviving are son Bobby Joe Bates and wife Jean of Peachtree City, GA; daughter Anne Graham and husband Kenny of Kimesville, NC; and daughter Mary Williams and husband Curt of Thomasville. She leaves behind six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Heidelberg United Church of Christ. Visitors will be received prior, beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Dorsy’s memory to Heidelberg UCC at 118 Salem St., Thomasville, NC 27360, or to Hospice Home of High Point, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262. LEXINGTON — Marilyn (Mama Weavil) King Weavil, age 74, of Lexington passed away at her residence Wednesday, February 12, 2014, with family by her side. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at Oak Forest United Methodist Church with Rev. Darren Alexander and Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Marilyn was born March 28, 1939, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Ernest Brian King and Louise Ellis King. Marilyn was member of First Baptist Church of Welcome and retired as a substitute teacher from the Davidson County Schools after 30 years. She was known as “Mama Weavil”. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roscoe Evans Weavil Jr.; daughters, Debbie and Pamela Smith and a grandchild, Joshua Walters.
Surviving are her sons; Todd Weavil (Angie) of Midway, Mark Weavil (Connie) of Lexington and Jon Weavil (Shebria) of Lexington, daughters; Wendy Weavil Walters (Brad) of Welcome and Kim Weavil and Fiance’ Paul Hairston, sister; Linda Elliott of Grand Prairie, TX, grandchildren; Christopher Lloyd, Heather Lloyd, Ryan Weavil, Jacob Duncan, Kaitlin Weavil, Jacob Walters, Nicholas Walters, Brooklyn Weavil, Tristan Nunez, Tyler Hairston, Jaylen Weavil, Nathan Walters, Brayden Weavil, Braylen Weavil.
