Robert E. Blair, Jr.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Robert E. Blair, Jr. (Bad-eye), 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 17, 2013, after a brief period of declining health. He was surrounded by his family at his passing. He was born on April 9, 1927, in High Point, NC. He was the oldest of three children of Robert E. Blair, Sr. and Eunice Brown Blair. He grew up in High Point and attended High Point city schools. At the age of 14, the family moved to the Hasty community in Davidson County. He attended Hasty High School, and at the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard before graduating. He served until the end of World War II, and upon honorable discharge, he returned to complete high school, graduating with the Hasty High class of 1947. It was there that he met the love of his life, Carrie Lou Shoaf. They were married on April 4, 1947. After graduating, he worked in the furniture industry for many years as a wood carver. In the late 1960’s, he and the late Rev. Lynwood Hubbard were instrumental in the effort to establish Hasty Water, Inc. He served on the Board of Directors in 1968-1969. He became an employee of Davidson Water, Inc. in 1972 and worked there until his retirement in 1992, retiring as supervisor of the meter readers. He was an avid sports fan and was active in the Ledford High School Booster’s Club for over 30 years. He was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ from the time of his marriage. He served on the church Consistory, was active in the church Sunday school, the Cemetery Association, and the 60 Plus Club after his retirement. He dearly enjoyed and treasured the many friendships from his years of involvement in all of these community organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Vernon of Thomasville, and his sister, Juanita Billings of Chiefland, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carrie Blair of the home; one son, (Ed) Tilden Blair and his wife Meredith of Cary, NC; brother-in-law, Clyde Billings; and a niece and two nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ with Rev. James Simonds and Rev. Dr. Joe D. Coltrane officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Blair will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion UCC Cemetery Fund, 130 Hasty School Rd. Sylvester “Bump” Holt

LEXINGTON — Sylvester “Bump” Holt, 70, of Moore Dr., passed away Friday, June 14, 2013. Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Files Chapel Baptist Church with family visitation a half-hour before the service. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Service.

 

Calvin Wade Jones

TRINITY — Mr. Calvin Wade Jones, age 59, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 15, after suffering an attack at his residence.

Mr. Jones was born August 14, 1953, in Forsyth County; however, he had been a resident of Surry County until moving to this area in 1986. At the time of his death, Calvin was an active member of Potter’s Clay Baptist. His other interests included his beloved mountains and his pets. Without missing work over 25 years, he had been a devoted employee of Piedmont Chemical Industries where he served as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Frye. On April 16, 1986, he was married to the former Doris Lee Smith, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are four daughters, Shannon Mize and her husband James of Trinity, Lilli Tate and her husband Harry of Ararat, Virginia, Candy Laws of Mount Airy and Cheri Jones of Trinity; one son, Christopher “Chris” Jones of King; one sister, Cynthia Miller and her husband Danny of Archdale; one brother, Edward “Eddie” Frye and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Potter’s Clay Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Canham officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to “the Building Fund” c/o Potter’s Clay Baptist Church, 111 Sedgehill Drive, Thomasville, NC 27360.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Lawrence H. Lyndon, 83, a resident of Yow Drive, died Tuesday morning, June 18, 2013, in High Point Regional Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

 

JoAnn Mack

HIGH POINT – Mrs. JoAnn Williams Mack, 61, passed on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. She was born December 28, 1951, in Warrenton, NC, to the late Charlie Eddie Williams, Sr. and Jeannette Williams. She was also preceded in death by one sister.

JoAnn attended schools in Warrenton, NC. Due to her declining health, she retired from High Point Furniture Industries. She was a member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and being with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Theodore Mack of the home; one son, James “Al” (Christine) Williams, one daughter, Traci Williams, both of High Point, NC; two step-daughters, Betty Emerson and Traci McCoy, both of High Point, NC; three step-sons, Ronnie Mack of Morganton, NC; Greg Mack of Washington, DC, and Terry Mack of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Gladys (Johnny) Hunt of High Point, NC, and Mary (David) Howard of Washington, DC; one brother, Charlie (Clementine) Williams of Warrenton, NC; one aunt, Maggie Bell Perry of Henderson, NC; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave. Interment will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Peggy Lee Bryant Pasowicz

TRINITY — Mrs. Peggy Lee Bryant Pasowicz, 63, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born on April 27, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, to Fred Bryant and Cora Adkins Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Pasowicz. She worked for Phillips Flowers in Chicago, IL, and attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Vincent Pasowicz and wife Sara of Trinity; she is the youngest of five sisters; and four granddaughters, Libberty, Felicity, Sophia, and Adelaide Pasowicz.
