LEXINGTON — Sadie Ann Bailey, 99, of West Fifth Avenue, died Thursday, March 28, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lexington City Cemetery. Piedmont Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GREENSBORO —  Jesse W. Brown, Sr., 85, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Visitation will be held noon-6 p.m. Monday at Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.

WINSTON-SALEM — B.L. Kennedy, 82, of the Wallburg community, died Friday, March 29, 2013.
A graveside service was held Friday at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Jamestown. Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale was in charge of arrangements.

Opal B. Louya
THOMASVILLE — Miss Opal B. Louya, 87, a resident of Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation, formerly of Johnsontown Road, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Pine Ridge. She was born March 12, 1926, in Davidson County, N.C., daughter of the late Andrew Curtis Louya and Fannie Byerly Louya. Opal worked as a shipping clerk for 52 years in the textile industry. She was a member of Johnsontown United Methodist Church and a past member of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wanda Regan and Lois McKenzie; five brothers, D.C. Louya, Joe Louya, Jack Louya, Homer Louya and Von Louya.
Surviving are one brother, George Louya and wife Jeanette of Thomasville; one sister-in-law, Mabel Louya of Thomasville, one brother-in-law, T. C. McKenzie of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 1, 2013, at 3 p.m. at J. C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Eric W. Lineberry officiating. The interment will be in Johnsontown United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service, and at other times at the home of the brother, George Louya, 411 Heitman Road, Thomasville, NC 27360. THOMASVILLE —Katherine Farrell 88, died March 28, 2013 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Tabor United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Thomasville Funeral Home.

Myrtle Elkes Owens Porter
ARCHDALE  —Mrs. Myrtle Elkes Owens Porter, 91 went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Thursday, March 28, 2013.
Myrtle was born in Wilmington, May 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Peter James Elkes and Lucy Jones Elkes.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elbert Vernon Owens of 21 years and Luther Leonard Porter of 38 years.  She was also preceded in death by three sons, Ray, Richard and J. Brandon Owens; a granddaughter, Kristen Ward;  two brothers, Jimmy (Earlene) Elkes and Jacky Elkes; three sisters, Patricia Thompkins, Reathea Scarboro and Ruby (Howard) George; sister-in-law, Margaret Elkes.
Myrtle and Elbert moved to Houston, TX in 1953.  She went to school for nursing and supported her family after his death in 1958.  She was active in the PTA and a member and adult Sunday School teacher at East Houston Baptist Church.  In 1969 she moved back to North Carolina where she met Rev. Luther Porter and they married in 1973.  She became his helpmate as he pastored and also continued nursing.  Myrtle attended Church of the Living Word in Archdale.  Myrtle was a wonderful wife, mother, friend and Nana. She will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving are children, Elbert (Betty) Owens of Sophia, Vann (Sue) Owens of Trinity, Thorban (Kathy) Owens of Houston, TX, Belinda (Byron) McKinley of Archdale, Kermit (Esther) Owens of Archdale, Arnold (Patsy) Porter of Wilmington, Barbara (Gene) Allred of Asheboro; a sister, JoAnn Dilldine of Randleman; two brothers, Robert Elkes of High Point and Toby (Faye) Elkes of Archdale; brother-in-law, Roy Scarboro of Archdale; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Elkes of Archdale; three daughters-in-law, Rebecca Owens of Houston, TX, June Owens of Aransas Pass, TX and Cheryl Owens of Trinity;  24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Myrtle’s Life will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Kermit Owens and Tonya McKinley.  Burial will follow in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 until 9 p.m.  Online condolences may be made at davisfuneralsandcremations.com.

THOMASVILLE — Paul Anthony Taylor, 18, died March 26, 2013 at Thomasville Medical Center.  Services will be announced later by  Prominence Funeral Home, Thomasville.

Norma Jean Braswell
HIGH POINT ­ — Norma Jean Braswell, 72, died March 29, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at  Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point.

Martha Haywood
HIGH POINT — Early Wednesday morning, Martha Haywood, 90, went home to be with the Lord. Martha aka “Nanny” was born on November 21, 1921, to the late Mattie Williams. She was also preceded in death by two children, Bob (Stickman) McMaster and Eva Bell Kearse; and one sister, Louise Roseboro.
Martha moved to High Point where she became an employee of A Cleaner World for many years. Mrs. Martha as everyone called her, was known for raising and nurturing children, whether they were neglected, abused or simply family. She had a big heart.
She loved the Lord and the word of God. She was a faithful giver to Benny Hinn Ministries and to the TCT Network.
Surviving are her seven grandchildren, Sharon McMaster, Rosaline Monk, Regina McMaster, Joyce (Rev. Ronald) Diggs, Robert (Swanette) McMaster, Michael (Melissa) McMaster and Timmy (Angela) McMaster all of High Point, N.C; fourteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; many cousins, other relatives and friends; and a special friend, Larry Ingram who was very dear to her.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave, High Point, N.C. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 1 until 1:30 p.m.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, N.C.

Minta Glenn Stroud
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Minta Glenn Stroud, 69, resident of High Point died March 28th, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Stroud was born July 29th, 1943, in Indiana and has been a resident of this area for 23 years.  She was of the Methodist faith and retired from Sedgefield Country Club.
Surviving is a daughter, Sabrina Palmer and husband Seth of Apex; two sons, Jason Rocheleau of High Point and Harry Burdick; and two sisters, Marie Hundley and husband Buzz of Kernersville and Nancy of Wilmington.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.  Visitation will immediately follow the service.  Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.  On-line condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com.
