Terry “Buck” Buchanan

HIGH POINT — Terry “Buck” Buchanan was born in Bennettsville, SC, to the late Deryl Buchanan and Shadie McCall Adams on October 2, 1960. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 25, 2013.

Terry moved to High Point at a young age and attended High Point City Schools, graduating from T. Wingate Andrews High School in 1979. During his high school years, Terry was an avid and talented athlete, playing basketball, football and track. He attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and later, Shaw University in Raleigh. In 1984, he married his wife Lillie Buchanan, a union of 28 years. Terry was last employed at Thomas Built Buses for 17 years.

A bond not to be broken, the joy of his life was his family and three things Terry loved just as much; telling jokes, the cornier the better, old school music and his Dallas Cowboys. Terry was also a member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, William Adams; mother-in-law, Edna Wright; brother, Michael McCall; and sister, Shirley Davis.

Terry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Lille; three daughters, Shenetha Williams and Shannon Buchanan of High Point and Ashley Buchanan of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two brothers, Dwayne Buchanan of High Point and Jerry Buchanan of Reno, NV; two sisters, Vivian Buchanan and Sherry Barber (Chris) of High Point; two grandchildren, Kayla Williams and Corey Williams of High Point; father-in-law, John Wright of Savannah, GA; three sisters-in-laws, Geraldine McCall of High Point, Denise Jenkins and Sheila Harvey (Leeckey) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one brother-in-law, Pastor Clifford Wright (Ann) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Drive. Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown. Family visitation will be at the church on Saturday, 12 to 1 p.m. and other times at the residence. Johnson and Sons is assisting the family. Hoyle “Bud” Burris Jr.

LEXINGTON — Hoyle “Bud” Lee Burris Jr., 60, of Wren Blvd. Lexington, died Thursday March 28, 2013, at his home after an extended illness.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 30, 2013, at Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church, Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00-8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Sesenia “Sen” Naniong Dove

HIGH POINT — Maria Sesenia Naniong Dove “Sen” of High Point passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem.

She lived her life serving the Lord and taking care of others as a Registered Nurse at Friends Homes, Inc. in Greensboro. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring daughter and a dear sister. She was born in Manila, Philippines, on May 11, 1968.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she was an active member, with the Reverend Vincent Smith, O.S.F.S celebrant. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Sesenia is survived by her husband, Dorman D. Dove; two daughters, Carissa and Celeste; her father and mother, Florentino and Nancy Naniong; two sisters, Maria Araceli Naniong and Maria Flordeliz Siapno; two brothers, Hermie Naniong and Cesar Naniong, her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews

TRINITY — Mr. James Hairston Jr., 68, of 5115 Reavis St., Trinity died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. Johnson and Sons, High Point is assisting the family.

Bruce Hastings

NEW LONDON — Bruce Aaron Hastings, age 27, of New London, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Free Pilgrim Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Free Pilgrim Church prior to the service. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton is assisting the Hastings family.

 

Mrs.Mary Lou Luffman

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Mary Lou Luffman, age 87, of High Point went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28 in the Hospice Home at High Point.

Mrs. Luffman was born in Wilkes County on September 2, 1925, to Joe and Alice Laster Lyons. She was employed with Westwood Furniture for 8 years in the upholstery department and retired in 1985. Mrs. Luffman was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and the Sunday School. She was a loving and caring lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She lovingly referred to her many family and friends as her “Sugar-Bugar”. On July 25, 1942, she married Mr. Robert L. Luffman, who died October 10, 1990. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Trevar Barber, Vergie Swain, Frances Cockerham, Wessie Curry and Lillie Smith; and also by two great- grandchildren; Madelyn Loggins and Houston Collins.

Mrs. Luffman is survived by her children, Mary “Lou” Hill and Frankie Ann Luffman Howard, both of High Point, Archie Robert Luffman and wife, Sarah of Greensboro. Also surviving are one sister, Estelle Lyons of Elkin; and four grandchildren, Shannon Tuttle and husband Jonathan, Maria Collins, Shawn Loggins and wife Kara, and Angela M. Luffman and five great-grandchildren, Dana Marie Laign, Dakota “Shayne” Collins, Chandler Tuttle, Calyn Loggins and Dallas Collins. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and her special friends, Sharon and David Collins and Marlene Skillen. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point by the Reverend Keith Parker. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service and at other times at the home of Shawn and Kara Loggins. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Palmer Smith

HIGH POINT — Mr. Palmer Smith, 69, departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point after a short period of illness. He was born on July 8, 1944, in Dillon County, SC.

He was raised in Dillon County, SC, and later moved to High Point, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eloise McFadden Smith and Sam Smith; three brothers, Lawrence Lee Smith, Stoney Smith and Richard Smith; one sister, Ann Carol Coachman; and one grandson, Anthony Southerland.

Palmer was a devoted father and was a family man. He enjoyed baseball, NASCAR and he was very full of life.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his former wife, Mary Smith of High Point, NC; two daughters, Tammy McCoy of the home and Tumeke Smith of High Point, NC; one son, Derrick Smith of High Point, NC; five sisters, Carolyn Smith, Mattie (Wilbert) McCall, Rose Smith and Abigail Smith all of High Point, NC, and Diane Bethea of Dillon, SC; four brothers, Francis Smith, Carl M. Smith and Roger Paul Smith, all of High Point, NC, and Larry Smith of Dillon, SC; two special aunts, Minnie McFadden of High Point, NC, and Wiladean McFadden of Dillon, SC; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave, High Point, NC. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, NC.
