Geraldine Smith Burnette
TRINITY — Geraldine Smith Burnette, a resident of Trinity, passed away in her home the morning of Monday, March 25, 2013.
She was born January 27, 1947, in Elkin, NC, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital to the proud parents of the late Curtis Wendell Smith and Violet Cockerham Smith. Geraldine attended college in Winston–Salem, NC, followed by working at Sunbeam Corporation in Elkin, NC, where she met her husband and father of her children, David Keith Burnette.
After she raised her children, she can be remembered working at J. Michael Jewelry, where she made a lot of new friends. She sincerely enjoyed sales and loved helping people find that special piece of jewelry.
Geraldine was a proud homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was always a perfectionist in all aspects of her life. She will always be remembered as the caring smile that would greet and talk to anyone without hesitation and loved everyone equally. As a supportive parent and loving wife, she will always be the one who remains in our heart as our guide, confidante and best friend; loyal, faithful and honest until the end.
Surviving Geraldine are her husband, David Keith Burnette of 45 years; her eldest daughter, Laura Hardin, middle daughter, Melissa Brown; and only son, Curtis Burnette. Also surviving is her mother, Violet Cockerham Smith, who resides in Elkin, NC. Her grandchildren are as follows starting with the eldest, Brayton Hardin and Hayes Hardin, born to the proud parents of Laura and Brooks Hardin; Lauren Brown and Colton Brown, born to the proud parents of Melissa and Daniel Brown.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Cumby Family Funeral Service at 206 Trindale Rd, Archdale, NC 27263. The funeral and graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Crestwood Memorial Gardens at 914 U.S. 21 State Road, NC 28676.

Jarvey Herbert Chandler
HIGH POINT — Jarvey Herbert Chandler, 72, of Sheraton Towers, High Point, died Monday, March 25, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Chandler was born on March 10, 1941, in High Point to the late Bud Albert Chandler and Ethel Mae Chandler. Mr. Chandler earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed building and flying model planes. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially music of the '60s and '70s. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by sisters, Beatrice Wolfe (Hubert) of High Point, Ellen Hall (Bill) of Sophia, Irene Hall (V.A.) of Sophia, and Shelby Davis (Michael) of High Point; cousin, James Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. A celebration of Mr. Chandler’s life will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point Chapel, with Pastor David Johnson of Potter’s House officiating. Marie P. Ellison
ARCHDALE — Marie P. Ellison, 79, passed away March 25, 2013, at Shannon Gray Rehab. Center. Born in Guilford County to the late James Richard and Georgia Meachum Phillips, she lived her entire life in Guilford County. She married Joe Ray Ellison in 1961, who preceded her in death. Marie was a secretary in the furniture business and was a member of Jewel Baptist Church in High Point. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Craven and husband Joseph; a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Craven Shuman; and a sister, Ima Jean Breeden.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 29, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in Archdale. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, 7-8:30 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale.

THOMASVILLE — Cleo Byerly Grubb, 79, of Thomasville, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC.
Cleo was born April 24, 1933, in Davidson County to the late Andrew Hoover and Nelia Hill Byerly. She was a resident of Davidson County all her life. She had retired from Carolina Underwear Company. Cleo was a dear sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
Mrs. Grubb was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Grubb; parents, and several brothers and sisters.
Cleo is survived by her husband, Billy Joe Grubb; son, Michael Grubb and wife Judy; daughter, Tuwana Grove and husband Len; sisters, Lilly Pearl Carriker and Ida Ree Clodfelter; 5 grandchildren, David Grubb and wife Sue, Renee Cook and husband Adam, Sherri Deaton, Cindy Tysinger and husband Charlie, Michelle Miller and boyfriend Marshall King; and 9 great-grandchildren, Owen Grubb, Olivia Grubb, Isabella Cook, Skyler Cook, McKayla Deaton, Brianna Tysinger, Dillon Tysinger, Logan King, Autumn King.
There will be a 2:00 p.m. graveside service Sunday, March 28, 2013, in Holly Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Billy Joe Yates officiating.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Gus Emanuel Plakakis Jr., 80, of Thomasville, NC, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2013, after several months of declining health. He was born on May 18, 1932, in Lumberton, NC, to the late Gus Emanuel Plakakis and Ruby Britt Plakakis.
Gus was a graduate of Lumberton High School. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in textiles from the School of Textiles at North Carolina State University. While there, Gus was a member of the ROTC program and Pershing Rifles. He later proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church for 46 years, he was an ordained deacon, a member of the Elmo Allgood Sunday School class, and served on various church committees. Gus was currently attending Hope Baptist Church in Sophia.
Gus was very active in the Thomasville community, serving as a member of the Thomasville City School Board and was co-founder of the Thomasville High School Band Boosters. Gus was a 32nd Degree Mason, receiving his 50-year pin in 2012, and was also a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite.
Gus was proud of his Greek “Cretan” heritage and was a member of the Cretan Association of the Psiloritis Carolinas Inc. Gus’s favorite pastime was spending time at the beach with his family and watching NC State Wolfpack Sports.
He was the Founder and President of Tar Heel State Chemical Company.
Gus is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sara Farmer Plakakis of the home; three daughters and three granddaughters, who were his pride and joy; his daughter Debra Plakakis Nicholson, husband Eric and their daughter, Sara Johnson Nicholson of Summerfield; his daughter Susan Plakakis Campbell and her daughter Brittney Lee Campbell and fiancé Jaron Smith of Thomasville; his daughter Anne Plakakis Manos, husband George and their daughter, Alexandra Frances Sappington of New York City.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

SUPPLY — Rhonda B. Rabon, age 63, of Supply, died March 5, 2013.
Rhonda was born in High Point, NC, on July 31, 1949, and was the daughter of Luther and Violet Beauchamp. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Renee Shirley; and a brother, Herman Wayne Beauchamp. She was resident of Supply, NC, since 1985. She was loving daughter, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her mother, Violet Beauchamp of Maryland; two children, John Campbell and Danielle Cannon of Supply; a brother, Jerry Beauchamp of Maryland; 3 grandchildren, Courtney Paige Cannon, Casey Renee Campbell and Cody Ryan Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Allene Lowe Ward
HIGH P0INT — Allene Lowe Ward, 85, passed away on March 25, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital. Born in Guilford County to the late James Lewis and Violet Welch Lowe, she lived most of her life in Guilford County. Allene attended Kings Business College and High Point College. She was a clerical worker for Globe Furniture and Marsh Furniture. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a former member of Deep River Friends, and was currently a member of the Calabash Presbyterian Church.
Allene is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Ray and husband Carter, Elizabeth Kestler and fiancé Simon Shupak, and Dawn Kestler and special friend Melissa Hall; a son Danny Kestler and Durwood Ward Jr.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. Internment will follow at Deep River Friends Cemetery.
