Virginia Holbrook Combs
LEXINGTON — Virginia Ola Holbrook Combs, 72, of W. 5th Avenue, died Saturday, March 23, at Hinkle Hospice House. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel.
Cornelia H. Mason
WARSAW — Cornelia Howard Mason, 101, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Warsaw, NC.
She was born October 18, 1911, in High Point, NC, to the late Grover C. and Maggie Wrenn Howard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by D.B. Mason, who died September 18, 1997, and her son, Lester H. Mason of Topsail Beach, who died August 20, 2012.
Cornelia graduated from High Point College with degrees in Music and Education. She was a former teacher and pianist in the Allen Jay School and High Point City Schools. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a charter member and past president of the Bethesda Raritan Auxiliary, former garden club member and Girl Scout leader. She and her husband were owners of D.B. Mason Home Furnishings and Furniture Villa, Durham NC.
In 1946, she was preceded in death by her husband of seven years, the Rev. Lester S. Furr, of the Western North Carolina Methodist Conference.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Franchion of Topsail Beach, NC.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC.

Ellen Jane Smith Nelson
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Ellen Jane Smith Nelson, age 85, of High Point, died Saturday, March 23, at Alamance County Hospice.
Mrs. Nelson was born June 3, 1927, in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late James and Ellen Sharp Smith. She had been a resident of this area for the past 56 years and was a member of Deep River Friends Meeting. She was a graduate of both Mars Hill College and Bowman Gray School of Medicine Nursing School. For more than 30 years she served as a Nurse and Medical Assistant to Dr. Donald Douglass. On December 25, 1946 she married Robert Stafford Nelson, who died March 5, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Robert, and a great-grandson, Grayson.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Autry of High Point and Rosemary Earhart and husband Robert of Mebane; one son, Steve Nelson of Kernersville; her sister, Mable Dillon of Kernersville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Deep River Friends Meeting House with Pastoral Minister Scott A. Wagoner and the Reverend John Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Elizabeth Simmons at 405 Forestwood Drive in Archdale.
Pallbearers will be Robert Elliott, Lloyd Graves, Robert Earhart, Lucas Nelson, Ryan Simmons and Al Goodman.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. George Washington Smith, 97, a resident of E. Sunrise Ave., died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House. He was born on October 20, 1915, in Davidson County to Eugene Holmes Smith and Mary Susan Beanblossom Smith. He retired from Coble Diary and Thomasville Furniture Industries and after retirement worked at Clyde Pearson Upholstery. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII and was a member of VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Melton Smith on September 1, 1989, and two sisters, Golda Hilliard and Rebith Hopkins.
Surviving is his daughter, Carol Jean Smith of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Anna Totherow of Matthews, NC and Priscilla Stowe and husband Jesse of Thomasville.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Steven Manley officiating. Interment with military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home of Priscilla Stowe, 205 E. Sunrise Ave. Thomasville. HIGH POINT — Mrs. Maudie Lee Beck Truitt, 86, a resident of 204 N. Mohawk Drive and formerly of Ball Road in Thomasville, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Davidson County, July 10, 1926, a daughter of Edgar O. (Ed) Beck and Claudia Leonard Beck and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a faithful member of Midway School Road Baptist Church in Thomasville where she was also a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was retired from Woodmark Originals of High Point. She dearly loved her family and also loved to cook. She was married to Winward Nummer Truitt who died April 20, 2012. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Sadie Clodfelter, Tempie Beck, Lillie Parker and Ida Mae Casteel, and by brothers, Jacob (Jake) Beck, Ervin Beck, and Frances Beck. Surviving are three sons, Winward H. Truitt and wife Jean of Orlando, FL, Donald Ray Truitt and wife Sandra of Thomasville, and George David Truitt and wife Daisy of the home; two brothers, Roy Beck of Winston Salem and Charlie Beck and wife Margaret of Thomasville; seven grandchildren, April Truitt, Caleb Truitt, Winward A. Truitt and wife Tiffany, Joshua Truitt, John Truitt, Kathleen Truitt, and Alexandra Truitt; a great-grandson, Winward M. Truitt. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Midway School Road Baptist Church in Thomasville by the Rev. Robert Walker and the Rev. Albert Craven. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
