Alan Carroll Bohler
NEWTON — Alan Carroll Bohler, 80, of Newton, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2013. 
Alan was born in Lincolnton, GA and grew up in High Point, NC where he started his career in the furniture business with Alderman Studios.  Alan retired from Bassett Furniture as Vice President of Sales after a very successful 34 years of service.  Alan was a mentor to many in the furniture industry.  Alan was an avid golfer and was involved in the leadership of Catawba Country Club where he served several terms on the Board of Directors.  Alan was in charge of, and helped recruit, the many volunteers that have made the Hickory Classic successful for the past twelve years.
Alan’s unfailing optimism and graciousness drew people to him.  He was a gentleman, a story teller, a good man who touched many lives and made them better.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara, his two daughters, Jinx McGrail (Neal) of Macon, GA and Jan Featherston (John) of Marietta, GA.  He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Brooks of St. Petersburg, FL.  
He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Ashley McGrail Bryan (Jim) of Colfax, NC, Lindsay McGrail West (Mikell) of Savannah, GA, Lauren McGrail Norris (Jeff) of Roswell, GA,  Benjamin Alan McGrail of Baltimore, MD, Jack Featherston, Bohler Featherston and Caroline Featherston of Marietta, GA.  
His four great grandchildren are Aidan, Hawkins, Anna Grace and Maggie Bryan of Colfax, NC.
The family will receive friends at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, 56 NW Blvd., Newton, NC on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 6–8 p.m.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 300 N. Main Avenue, Newton, NC, with Rev. Dr. David Greene and Rev. Dan Martin, officiating.  A private entombment for the family will follow at Floral Gardens Memorial Park in High Point, NC. 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Newton, 300 N. Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658 or to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

LEXINGTON — Marie “Susie” Sadler Leffew, 55, of Lexington died March 16, 2013, at her home.

Virginia Walser ‘Giggs’ Holder
THOMASVILLE — Virginia “Giggs” Walser Holder, 86, died March 16, 2013, after a short stay at Thomasville Medical Center.
She slipped from this world into the next peacefully surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, all those who loved her. Her family holding vigil at her beside recognized the tears sliding down her face in those last moments, a face that had been non responsive for the prior 48 hours, as an expression of joy at recognizing the loved ones who had come to take her to God’s heavenly home.
Mrs. Holder was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Thomasville to Cletus and Daisy (Crotts) Walser. Her husband Willie “Pete” Holder preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by a son, Johnny Charles Holder and wife Ann; daughters, Vickie Holder and Teresa Holder Clodfelter and husband Ray Von; loving sister, Betty Lou Walser Locke; and grandchildren, Angie Holder Lomax, Wendy Norris and husband Lane, Kevin Holder, Jeremy Clodfelter and wife Tracy and Jessica Clodfelter; five great grandchildren, Kelby Lomax, Claire Norris, Blake Norris, Hunter Clodfelter and Sarah Clodfelter; and special care givers, Kelly Norris Church and Jeff Ledford. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Walser Curry; brothers, John Walser and Kenneth Walser.
Mrs. Holder was an accomplished homemaker, ready traveler, and loved spending time with Family and friends. She was a long time member of Greenwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted March 19, 2013, Tuesday at 2 p.m. in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Michael Ferguson officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of the daughter, Vickie Holder, 208 Walker Blvd. Thomasville, NC 27360. LEXINGTON — Ruth Herring Hopkins, 89, of Lexington, died at her home March 17, 2013.

HIGH POINT — Billy Joe “B.J.” Loggins, 85, of W. Lexington Avenue, died March 17, 2013, at the Hospice Home at High Point.

Paul Leach Maness
TRINITY — Mr. Paul Leach Maness, 81, resident of Trinity, died March 16th, 2013 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Maness was born December 18th, 1931 in Montgomery County, a son to the late Will S. and Onie McMillan Maness.  A resident of this area most of his life, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was owner of Maness Pluming Company in Greensboro.  He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher and was active in many other areas of church life.  He also loved animals and was an avid golfer.  On August 19th, 1956 he married the former Frances Dyson who survives of the residence.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Willine Maness; and two brothers, Max and John Maness.
Also surviving are ten nieces and nephews; six great nieces and nephews; and two sister-in-laws, Janet and Jean Maness.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Dr. David Cunha, speaker.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
