Miriam Collins Bennett
“THOMASVILLE — Miriam Collins Bennett, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Born July 10, 1935, in Horry County, SC, she is survived by two sons and a daughter as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service is to be held on Sunday, December 23, at 2 p.m. at the Gospel Way Baptist Church in Archdale. Family visitation is a half hour prior.”

Cynthia Jean Humphrey Boyd
LEXINGTON — Mrs. Cynthia Jean Humphrey Boyd, 65, departed this life on Monday, December 17, 2012, in Lexington, NC. She had been in declining health for several years.
A native of High Point, NC, she was the seventh child out of twelve born to the late Jack and Ruby Humphrey on June 26, 1947. Cynthia attended the Public Schools of Guilford County and was a graduate of the class of 1965 from William Penn High School. At an early age she was introduced to Christ and was born and raised in St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church. While a member of this church she served as the church Secretary and was a member of the Victoria Y Missionary Society and other boards and auxiliaries.
She was employed for many years as a Health Care Provider at Graybrier Nursing Home, Liberty Nursing Home, and as a Private Duty nurse. Her proudest moments were those of her employment with the Department of Social Services in Washington, DC, and High Point, NC.
She was preceded in death by her brother Jack Humphrey, Jr., three sisters, Mary Frances Bossard, Ernestine L. Pate and Virginia Lee Bossard. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Cynthia was affectionately known by her family and friends as “The Mayor of “Thomasville”. Cynthia was united in Holy Matrimony to Vincent Jevarre Boyd, Sr. on November 28, 1970, and to that union three children were born.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Vincent (Valarie) Jevarre Boyd, Jr of High Point, NC; two daughters, Michelle Yvette Boyd of Lexington, NC, and Nychell (Joseph) Y. Dunlap of High Point, NC; nine grandchildren; five sisters; Sharon (Keith) Lipscomb, Rev. Diane Bonham, Julia Norwood, Margaret (Charles) Dunlap all of High Point, NC and Gloria Camp of San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Thomas (Brenda) Humphrey of Greensboro, NC and Perry (Gloria) Humphrey of High Point, NC.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Ave. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, NC.

Mary Helen Carter Cox
LEXINGTON — Mrs. Mary Helen Carter Cox, 70, a former resident of Old Highway 64, died Thursday morning, December 20, 2012, in the Brian Center. She was born June 10, 1942, in Crab Orchard, Tennessee, a daughter of Willie Wesley Carter and Ninnie Pearl Webb Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendly Gospel Baptist Church in Thomasville. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death a sister, Jean Loden.
Surviving are a son, Bobby Dwayne Cox of the home; sisters, Anna Marie Sanders of High Point, Linda Carver and husband Odell and Julie Simmons and husband Kenny, both of Thomasville; brothers, William W. (Billy) Carter and wife Diane of Sophia, Tony Carter and wife Linda of Denton, Dallas Redwine and wife Joyce and Jerry D. Redwine and Vickie Aldridge, both of Thomasville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 3 p.m.. in Friendly Gospel Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Summey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Cox will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church at 1:00 p.m., when the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour.

Leslie Eugene Diener
HIGH POINT — Leslie Eugene Diener, 84. passed away at his home on Thursday, December 20, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Leslie Henry and Lillian Marie Houghten Diener. Leslie was a Naval Veteran of the Korean War. He was an Industrial Engineer for Lorillard in Greensboro and volunteered at Senior Resources. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Marie Thompson. Leslie is survived by his wife Dorothy Campbell Diener of the home, a son Scott Diener and wife Lisa of High Point, a sister Corrine Ann Zienert of Kennesaw, Ga., and three brothers, Ronald Elmer of Abilene, TX, David Arthur of Troy, MI, and Timothy Paul of Morency, MI.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 22, 2012, 12:00 noon at Sechrest Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday, December 21, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Doris Loretta Hepler Duncan, 90, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at her home. She was born on March 1, 1922, in Davidson County to Albert Reid Hepler and Claudie Scarlett Hepler. She retired from Pickett Cotton Mill in High Point and was a member of Oak Hill Memorial Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother. She loved home, people and was a wonderful cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold Wayne Duncan; brothers, Fred, Hollis, and Eugene Hepler; and sisters, Linda McGee and Edna Sowers.
On May 18, 1940, she married Clinton Harden Duncan, who survives of the home; also surviving is her daughter, Carolyn Washam Hedrick and husband Van of Thomasville; son, Thomas Clinton Duncan of Thomasville; brother, Lloyd Hepler and wife Norma of Thomasville; sisters, Inez Swing and Clara Phillips and husband James, all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Steven C. Gallimore and wife Lorie, Edward C. Gallimore and wife Janet, Tracy Duncan and wife Tammy, and Sandra Young and husband John; 9 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 12:00 noon at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Gary Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home of her daughter, Carolyn, 216 E. THOMASVILLE — Mr. Randal David Leonard, 58, of Thomasville, passed away November 29, 2012, at his residence.

SILER CITY — Mr. Charles Hunter Manuel Jr., 91, resident of Siler City, went to be with Jesus on December 19th, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Donnie Meyers.
Mr. Manual was born December 9, 1921, in Rockingham County, a son to the late Rev. Charles H. and Nellie Drye Manuel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a resident of the High Point area most of his life. He retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of First United Pentecostal Church (The Pentecostals of High Point). He was a devout Christian who loved reading his bible and enjoyed the singing at his church. He also loved working in his garden. On December 21, 1956, he married the former Thelma Coon who preceded him in death on February 3, 2012. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded by a brother, John Wesley Manuel; and two sisters, Mildred Farmer and Evelyn Burr.
Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Meyers and husband Donnie of Siler City and Darlene Sweet of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Jennifer Stout of Stokesdale, Donnie Meyers of Siler City, Benjamin Meyers of Siler City, Jeffrey Sweet of Kernersville and Timothy Sweet of Kernersville; two great-grandchildren, Danielle Prevost and Billy Stout III; and a cousin, Etta Pearl Carter of Madison.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. today in the chapel of Floral Garden Park Mausoleum with Rev. Lark Lewis officiating. Memorials may be directed to First United Pentecostal Church, 2018 W. LEXINGTON — Sandra H. Marlow, 57, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Cremation Services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Loie Ray McMahan, Sr., 89, resident of Presbyterian Nursing Home in Hawfield died Thursday morning in the Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Mr. McMahan was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Bryson City a son of Lum and Alice Holden McMahan. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was retired owner-operator of Southern Motors. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy, was of the Baptist faith and a former member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #674. Mr. McMahan was a sponsor for Petty Enterprises for many years, High Point Man of the Year and a developer of many rural farms. He constructed the First Citizen Building (One Plaza Center), created Southern Auto Action in 1958 and sponsored men’s fast pitch softball team locally in the 60’s. Mr. McMahan sponsored the sportsmanship trophy of the golden gloves at city lake park and raised and raced thoroughbred horses for 40 years.
Surviving are one son; Mr. L. Ray McMahan and wife Candy of Ruffin, N.C.; 2 daughters; Mrs. Nova Fuller and husband Troy of Graham and Mrs. Tammy Deluca of Raleigh; 1 sister; Mrs. Ollie McMahan Hinson of High Point 5 grandchildren; Jamie White, Heather Stuckey, Brenda Deluca, Allison McMahan and Taylor Fuller; 4 great-grandchildren; Gage White, Ryan White, Tyler Stuckey and Aden Stuckey.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by Dr. James (Jimmy) Hinson. Entombment with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
