Florence A. Alley
GREENSBORO — Florence A. Alley, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Florence was born on March 4, 1926 in Guilford County, the daughter of Gurney and Lela Allred. She retired from Western Electric with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Life Community Church for over 63 years. Florence loved flowers and the time she spent with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She will be deeply missed.
Florence is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Robert Alley Jr. of the home; son, James R. Alley of Olive Branch, MS; daughter, Joyce C. Hill and husband Jim of Jamestown, NC; grandchildren, Amy Snell and husband Greg, Danae Foster, Brian Vaughan and wife Karen, Robert Vaughan and wife Sarah, Ashley Riney and husband Jamie and Alyssa Alley; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Howard Allred of Glenn Burney, MD and sister, Juanita Turner and husband W.A. of Greensboro, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, 4:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

ASHEBORO — Carolyn Sue Tucker Brown, 70, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Hunt's Plank Road Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Rebecca ‘Aunt Jo’ Coffey
PLEASANT GARDEN — Mrs. Rebecca L. “Becky” “Aunt Jo” Yow Whitaker Coffey, 91, of Pleasant Garden, passed to Heaven on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Clapps Assisted Living.
Born April 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Colon A. Yow and Alice Myrick Yow; the last survivor of eight girls and three boys. Aunt Jo lived in Guilford County her entire life and was an active member of Community Baptist Church in Greensboro. She retired from Sears in 1985. She enjoyed travelling, working in her garden and flowers, and feeding and watching birds. She cared about her friends and neighbors, and was always willing to help others in a time of need.
Aunt Jo is survived by a daughter Barbara Mullins; son, “Hoppy” Whitaker and wife, Martha; stepson, Larry Coffey and wife, Kelly; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a special friend, Faye Mitchell.
Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church, 1330 Burnetts Chapel Road, in Greensboro, officiated by Rev. J.R. Gossett and Rev. Chris Davis. A private interment will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 4 until 7 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the home of Pat Millis, 5705 Drake Road, in Greensboro.

TRINITY — Mrs. Debbie Cain Edwards, 51, of Trinity, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hinkle Hospice Home.
A resident of this area all of her life, Debbie was born on December 3, 1962 in Davidson County to Robert and Nancy Fowler Cain. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Thomasville. She especially enjoyed her church, gardening, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of over 36 years, Rev. Floyd Edwards of the home; son, Terry Edwards and his wife Taylor of Thomasville; daughter, Elaine Hanner and her husband Allen of Thomasville; and her grandchildren, Austin, Carlie, and Emery. Also surviving is her mother, Nancy Cain, and her siblings.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southgate Baptist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Chuck Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Faith Baptist Church Cemetery in Archdale. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street.

LEXINGTON — Clark Eugene “Gene” Smith, 79, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House of Lexington.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Reeds Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
HIGH POINT — Ernest Wayne Smith, 65 of High Point died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after a brief illness, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Born June 29, 1949 in High Point, he is the son of Thelma Hines Smith and the late Jack Franklin Smith. He is a graduate of Allen Jay High School and East Carolina University and founded Wayne Industries over 30 years ago.
Mr. Smith is a Freemason and a member of Archdale Friends Meeting where he served on multiple committees and was a member of the Quaker Men, a philanthropic community outreach ministry and taught Sunday School. He was a writer, reader, poet and storyteller, mostly of tall tales.
He will be remembered as a leader and father who taught by example. He never met a stranger. Wayne was a generous, larger than life man who loved with his whole heart, especially his wife and children.
In addition to his mother, Wayne is survived by his wife Trudy Washburn Smith and two children, Cori Brooks Smith of Winston-Salem and Logan Jackson Smith of the home. Also surviving are a sister Candace Smith of High Point, mother-in-law Gertrude Brooks Washburn, brother-in-law John Washburn and his wife Pat and their children Jason, Matthew and Joshua, godchildren Jonathan and Julie Stout and his pets Ryder the dog and Patti the cat.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Wayne Smith will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Archdale Friends Meeting. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Wayne Smith Memorial Fund at Archdale Friends Meeting, 114 Trindale Road, Archdale, NC.
