SUPPLY — Darlene Phelps Yates Adams, 51, died Sunday, July 6, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Brunswick Island Baptist Church, 1672 Mt. Pisgah Road SW, Supply NC 28462.
HIGH POINT — Robert (Rob) Weindell Black was born on March 17, 1955 in Winston-Salem, NC. He grew up in Bluefield, WV with his parents, Ben and Bernice, and two siblings, John and Nancy.
In 1977 he graduated from Elon College where he was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for “nobility of character and service to others.”
He continued his education at the Columbia Graduate School of Bible and Missions, where he met his wife Susan. The two were married in 1983 and had their first son, Andy, in 1986. In 1988 Rob was licensed by the Evangelical Free Church of America and accepted his first pastorate in Yankeetown, Florida where he served as Senior Pastor at Community Evangelical Free Church. Their second son, Thomas, was born in 1989.
In 1990 Rob planted the Georgetown Evangelical Free Church in Georgetown, KY. Rob and Susan’s third son, Philip, was born in 1991. Rob received his Certificate of Ordination from the Evangelical Free Church of America in 1992.
In 2000 Rob’s family moved to High Point, NC where Rob became the Pastor of Adult Ministries at the Community Bible Church. His ministry developed significantly in this time. He became increasingly focused on one-on-one discipleship and counseling. Over the following years he counseled and mentored many, becoming a Fellow of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors in 2005.
Rob’s counseling ministry grew as he trained and mentored many other counselors. He helped establish Turning Point Counseling Ministry located at CBC’s Life Center. In May 2012, he was awarded a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia International University. During this time, he compiled a book of illustrations which he used in his counseling ministry to help explain and clarify the biblical truths which had deepened his own relationship with God over the course of three decades.
Rob passed away on July 9, 2014 at Hospice House at High Point after a long illness. He is survived by his cherished family: Susan, his wife; sons Andy, Thomas and Philip; his mother, Bernice; and siblings, John and Nancy. He is fondly remembered by his beloved church for his integrity, passion for God, and his devoted ministry to others.
The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point. Visitation and reception will immediately follow the service.

SPRINGFIELD, TN — Hoyte Bundy, 86, formerly of High Point, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Springfield. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Robertson County Funeral Home is serving the family.
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Pearl Stephens Davis, 87, departed this life on July 5, 2014 at Westchester Manor. Pearl was born May 5, 1927 in Aucilla, Florida. North Carolina became her home in 1958.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sarah Stephens; two brothers, Ozell Stephens and Walter Stephens Jr.; two sisters, Ruby Muller and Mattie Stephens.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford S. Davis; one son, John Davis of Greensboro, NC; three daughters, Creasie Davis of High Point, NC, Sheila Davis of Greensboro, NC and Linda Davis of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Kendrick (Stephanie) Davis and Wanda Gibson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Sharpe Road Church of Christ, 2400 Sharpe Rd, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

TRINITY- Mrs. Thelma G. (Traylor) Gatewood, 83, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at GrayBrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward H. Williford, Sr. in 1962 and her second husband James Cary Gatewood, Jr., in 2006.
Mrs. Gatewood was born on January 5, 1931, in Weldon, NC a daughter of the late James Alexander and Audry (Elmore) Traylor, Sr. She was a former City of High Point employee in their Billing Department for over 30 years until her retirement.
She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church where she taught the preschool Sunday school class for many years during her adult life.
In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, singing and playing the organ, and drawing different art projects for her students.
Mrs. Gatewood is survived by three children, Beverly W. Giles and her husband, Randy of Archdale, Holt Williford and his wife, Kathy of High Point, and Christy G. Carden and her husband, Brad of Trinity; a stepson, James Cary Gatewood of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Traylor and a sister, Lucille Thomas.
Funeral Services will be private at the request of the family.

TRINITY — Mrs. Peggy Lois Craver Steed, 82, a resident of Welborn Road, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born on January 3, 1932 in Davidson County, NC to William Roscoe Craver and Gertrude Elizabeth Shuler Craver. She was a beautician for the majority of her life but also worked in the cafeteria at Trinity, Fairfield, and Fair Grove Elementary Schools. She was a member of Oak Hill Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Steed, Jr. on May 10, 1993, whom she married on February 12, 1950; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Natalie Steed.
Surviving are a son, Michael Ray Steed of Trinity; daughter, Sandra Steed Jolly and husband Tony of Trinity; brother, William “Billy” Roscoe Craver, Jr. and wife Josephine of Thomasville; sister, Greta Cline of Thomasville; granddaughter, Miranda Ballard Schaal and husband Chris of Trinity; great-granddaughter, Skylar Schaal; and sister-in-law and best friend, Phyllis Wilmoth of Trinity.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 3:30 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Fair Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday one hour and a half prior to the service at the church from 2:00 – 3:30. Mrs. Steed will remain at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the visitation. LEXINGTON — Robert “Robbie” Gladford Swing, 97, died Wednesday July 9, 2014, at Alston Brook Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Becks Reformed Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times, at his son’s home on Becks Church Road.
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Larry Otto Wade, 65, a resident of Thomasville, NC, passed away on July 9, 2014 at the Thomasville Medical Center.
Larry was born October 1, 1948 in High Point, NC a son of the late Lonnie Otto Wade, Jr. and Cathryn Farmer Wade. He had been a resident of this area most of his life. He was a talented upholsterer the better part of his life and he was employed by Henredon-Schoonbeck for fifteen years and retired from Dapha Unlimited after eighteen years. A lover of NASCAR, good music, tools, his blue recliner and the TV remote. Always willing to lend a helping hand and give sound advice. He treasured his family and friends and held us close in his heart. He was small in physical stature, quiet in temperament, but a giant in character. His value in our lives is immeasurable and irreplaceable.
In November 2001 he married Beverly L. Wade who preceded him in death March 28, 2010.
Surviving are his daughter, Angie Wade Allred and her husband Bill of Thomasville; step-daughter, Dawn Pierson of High Point; sisters, Loretta Fausnett of Thomasville, Barbara Ridge and her husband Chuck of Chattanooga, TN; and grandchildren, Dominya and Montavi.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 in the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Pete Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

THOMASVILLE — Michael Duane “Mike” Washburn, age 54, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
He was born on August 28, 1959 in Bonner County, Idaho to Charles Donald Washburn and Imogene Burchette Washburn. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a 1977 graduate of Trinity High School.
Mike was a real estate broker with Keller Williams and also owned Washburn Group Incorporated. He was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Jeff Patterson Sunday school class, the United Methodist Men and also helped in the Neighborhood Cafe. He had a passion for cooking, especially participating in barbecue cook-off competitions and was an avid Wolfpack fan. Mike was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Virginia Thomas Wasburn; his daughter, Michala Chandler Washburn; his stepson, Matthew Cromer and his wife Anna; his mother, Imogene Burchette Lookabill. Also surviving are his sisters, Joyce Craven and her husband Billy and Becky Dunlap and her husband Jamey; his grandchildren, Emory Noel Cromer and William Matthew “Weant” (Green Bean) Cromer, who is due in early August.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Archdale United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Stuart Noell and Reverend Harold Shives officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 9 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

HIGH POINT — Daniel Goehring Winklosky, 75, of High Point, passed away July 2, 2014.
Danny was born in Pennsylvania on April 15, 1939 to the late John Edward and Mary Henrietta Winklosky. In 1941 his family moved to Panama where Danny stayed until graduating high school. After returning to the United States, Danny graduated from Miami University in Ohio in with a Bachelor of Architecture.
Dan married Catherine English in 1963. They moved to High Point in 1965 where Dan worked for the city of High Point, and then in private practice. Dan taught architecture at Guilford Technical Community College from 1975 to 1999.
Dan was an active member of Wesley Memorial, an avid racquetball player, a world traveler, and author of several published works.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother Jack and his sister Mary Ann. Dan is survived by son Gary and his wife Susan; son Ward and his wife Ling; five grandchildren Katie, Nicole, Josh, Will, and Andrew; and his former wife, Catherine.
A private memorial service was held in the chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church officiated by Dr. J. Alexander Ward.
