Samuel Harden Brookbank
NEWTON — Samuel Harden Brookbank, 92, of Newton died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born Jan. 25, 1921, he was the son of the late Samuel Kell Brookbank and Myrtle Viola Brookbank. He worked for Burlington Industries, Bentley International Machine Company, International Knitting Machinery, Carolina Associates, Paul Lavitt Mills, and he taught at CVCC. He was an ordained Baptist minister and was a member of Friendly Baptist Church in High Point for 25 years. He and his wife have made Newton their home since 1975.
Three daughters, Beverly Nielson of Morganton, Brenda Shuskey and husband James of High Point and Sandra Hicks and husband Michael of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Charles Larry Brookbank and wife Erma of Critz, Va., and Samuel Harden Brookbank Jr. and wife Beverly of Tabor City; a sister, Louise Brown of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren survive him.
His wife of 72 years, Julia Barrier Brookbank, and a daughter, Nancy Hardister, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday Jan. 5, 2014, at Fairgrove Baptist Church with pastor Neil George officiating. Entombment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. one hour prior to the service Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at the church.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will be held noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home.

Roy Rogers Causey
LEXINGTON - — Mr. Roy Rogers Causey, 71, a resident of Valley Mine Road, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Horry County, S.C., a son of Walter Causey and Lillian Tyler Causey. Mr. Causey was owner of Causey Trucking Company and was a prior supervisor with Deal Construction Company. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, J.W. Causey, F.E. Causey, Winston Carlyle Causey and James Garland Causey.
On Oct. 14, 1967, he was married to Sadie Larrimore, who survives of the home. Also surviving are sisters, Ruby Bruton and Jauaniece Hagadorn and husband John, both of Loris, S.C.; brothers, William Paul Causey and wife Genevieve and Donald Ray Causey and wife Elise, both of Loris, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Causey officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. he family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour.

Susan Hockett Crotts
LEXINGTON — Susan Hockett Crotts, of High Rock Lake, Lexington, N.C., passed away on Dec. 2, 2013, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends at the Hinkle Hospice House. A memorial service is being held Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at Cotton Grove United Methodist Church in Lexington the Rev. Ed Armfield officiating. Visitation with the family will follow in the fellowship hall.
Born June 27, 1953, in Mountain City, Tenn., Susan spent most of her earlier years in Damascus, Va., before moving to North Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Jarrette Hockett.
Surviving are her husband, Mark Craig Crotts, of the home; two sons, Chris Davis and wife Mandi and Dustin Crotts; one brother, Robert Hockett; sister-in-law Chris Wynne; brother-in-law Gary Wynne; special aunt and uncle Eva and Nick Sturgill; nephews Cory and Eric Hockett, Peyton Wynne; and niece Sarah Beth Wynne. Most precious to Susan are her three grandchildren, Preston Davis, Lydian Grace Davis and Aubrey Crotts.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to her oncologist Dr. Jason Huff, the staff of High Point Regional Hospital, the Cancer Center and The Hinkle Hospice House of Lexington for their loving care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 and the American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Main St., High Point, NC 27262.

Ruth Anne Sears Hinnant
Ruth Anne Sears Hinnant died Jan. 3, 2014. She was born in High Point on May 8, 1933, to the late John Benson Phillips and Louise Martin Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Wray “Jim” Sears and her only sibling, Alton Martin Phillips.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Collie and husband Bernard of High Point; two sons, David Sears and his wife, Sally of York, Pa., and Jimmy Sears of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jennifer Rea and husband Scott of Charlotte, Jeffrey Collie and wife, Laura of Greensboro, Erin Doemland and husband, Chris of York, Pa., Farrah DeLuca of Archdale and Audrey Stevenson and husband Jamie of Trinity. Other survivors include her second husband, Rudolph “Rudy” Hinnant of High Point and nine great-grandchildren.
Ruth Anne graduated from High Point High School and attended Woman’s College in Greensboro. She loved music and was a talented pianist and organist. Ruth Anne taught private piano lessons and served as pianist and organist at Green Street Baptist Church for many years. She played the organ for numerous weddings and funerals and also was an interim organist at a variety of area churches, including First Methodist, Westchester Baptist and Archdale Methodist. She worked with children and adults with disabilities in programs at Wesley Memorial Church and Kendall Center. She also was an advocate for the elderly, serving as activity director at Wesleyan Arms, administrator of Wesleyan Homes, and director of adult day care at Emmanuel Senior Enrichment Center.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. In honor of Ruth Anne’s request, there will not be a funeral service.
The family wishes to thank the Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center staff and Hospice of the Piedmont for the excellent care they provided. TRINITY — Freddie Butler Jones, 84, of Trinity, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her residence.
