LINWOOD — Mrs. Teresa Hinkle Everhart Bartrug, 65, of Lexington died Friday, December 13, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 17 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

Vergie Poole Cox
DENTON — Mrs. Vergie Poole Cox, 71, of Lick Creek Church Road, Denton, died Friday, December 13.           
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, December 18 at Clear Springs United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Joyce Goodwin
HIGH POINT — Joyce Marie (King) Goodwin, 72, passed away Friday, December 13.  She was the loving wife of the late Robert W. Goodwin.
Mrs. Goodwin was born on September 30, 1941 in Eden, NC a daughter of the late Oscar Lee and Hattie Lee King.  She was a graduate of Draper Senior High School in Eden, NC and later worked for Alma Desk for 15 years.
She was an active member of Ward Street Mission, High Point.
In her spare time she enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, watching soap operas, being a social butterfly, and most importantly, helping to raise her grandsons.
Mrs. Goodwin is survived by a daughter, Donna Lewis of Archdale; a step daughter, Debra Timmons of High Point; two grandsons, Kirk Lewis of High Point, and Neal Lewis of Archdale; three sisters, Sylvia Smith, Vivian Owen, and Agnes King, all of Eden, NC.
A celebration of life service will be 5:00 p.m.  Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale with Rev. Keith Edwards officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ward Street Mission Food Pantry or Clothing Drive, 1619 W. Ward Ave. High Point, NC 27260.

LEXINGTON — Mrs. Judy Nadine Young Ludwig, 73, of Sowers Road, died Friday, December 13 at Kiser Hospice Home in Salisbury.

DENTON — Ms. Elna Lee Shaw Morton age 86 of Denton died Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Carol Roger
HIGH POINT — The transition for Ms. Carol A. Roger, 51, from earth to glory occurred Monday, December 9, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born April 2, 1962 in High Point, NC, a daughter of Ms. Mary Rogers Ware and the late Macco Bethea. She was educated by the Guilford County School System.  She worked for American Home and Health Care Services for 10+ years. Carol was a member at Williams Memorial CME Church.  Although she enjoyed taking care of others, her passion in life was cooking and feeding her family and many friends. She was fondly called “Me-My” by her grandchildren and great nieces.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Tameka Rogers and Mary Rogers both of High Point; four grand-sons, Jaelen Rogers, Damian Stewart, Tiyriek Rogers and Andrew Rogers; two sisters, Dorothy (Dr. William) Pegues and Renee (David) London; three brothers, Jimmy (Ruthie) Rogers, Morgan (Diane) Rogers and Luther Ware; two aunts, Bertha Beauchamp and Janie Watts; one uncle, Martin Ware; and a host of nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends. 
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 16, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church at 3400 Triangle Lake Road.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. and other times at 905 Winslow Street.

HIGH POINT — Joseph M. Rowe Sr.,  89 of High Point, NC died Friday. A Service will be held Wednesday, at 2:00 pm at Green Street Baptist Church.

Dorothy Skinner
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Dorothy Turner Skinner, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at High Point Manor.
Mrs. Skinner was born on August 23, 1926 in High Point a daughter of the late William D. “Pop” and Clara J. (Payne) Turner.  She was a 1944 graduate of High Point High School and worked in the retail industry for many years. She was also the manager of an antique shop in High Point.
Mrs. Skinner enjoyed her dogs Scottie and Scooter, and working outside in her flower gardens, but more important to her was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mrs. Skinner is survived by a daughter, Sherry Wagner Dobbins of Kernersville; a son, James R. “RicK” Wagner, III of High Point; three grandchildren, Renee Dobbins Canada and her husband, Bobby of Winston-Salem ; Shane Christopher Wagner and his wife, Stephanie of High Point ; and Amber Wagner Marks and her husband, Brian of High Point; four great grandchildren, Tyler Canada, Aidan Wagner, Andrew Marks, and Rylan Marks;  two nieces, Terri Koontz and her husband Bryan of Colfax, and Nancy Draughn and her husband, Mike of  the Outer Banks, NC; a nephew, Craig Turner and his wife, Penny, of High Point; and several cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two husbands, James R. Wagner, II, and Carl W. Skinner, Sr.
A celebration of life service will be noon on Monday, December 16, 2013 in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, with Dr. Ken Bradstock, Chaplin at Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, Winston-Salem  officiating. A private burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 11 to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Gina Spoone
HIGH POINT — Gina Spoone 48 passed away December 10, 2013 in her home in High Point, NC. Born to John William Spoone and Barbara Ann Owens Spoone in High Point NC. She was a cake decorator which she made a career of for over twenty years. She had two wonderful sons, Michael and Christopher Albea and an beautiful daughter Melissa Albea.  Gina was the most wonderful and selfless person to everybody. Gina is preceded indeath by her parents. Her grandchildren were her  life and she loved them dearly.
She is survived by her children Michael Wayne, Melissa Anne-Renee, and Christopher Dale Albea, Paul Eudean Allen, Grandchildren, Breeonna Renaye Albea, Kelsea Ann Foster, Landon Chance Albea, Austyn Skiler Leonhart, Zoey Noel Albea, Siblings, Mitzi Spoone Nealey, Misty Spoone Corum, John William Spoone Jr., William Shane Spoone,Shanna Caroline Spoone, Kimberly Kincaid Swiney, Susan Diane  Kincaid, Christopher James Kincaid and Sherry Kincaid.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, 2:00pm at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point. Visitation will be on Monday, December 16, 2013, 6-8pm at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.

Arthur Stoots
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Arthur Talmage Stoots, 78, a resident of Thomasville, died Friday, December 13, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Carroll County, VA on August 4, 1935 a son of Earnest and Julie Stoots and had been a resident of Davidson County since 1972. He had retired from General Steel Co. in High Point and attended Thomasville Assembly of God. On August 13, 1957 he was married to Miss Shirley Mae Austin who survives of the home. Also surviving is a son, Gary Arthur (Radar) Stoots and his wife Michelle of Franklinville; a granddaughter, Shannon Stoots; three great-grandchildren, Emanuel Briceno, Isaiah Briceno, and Hannah Grace Briceno. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 3 PM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville by the Rev. Don Hawkins. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 until 2:45 PM. Thurman Thompson
LIBERTY — Mr. Thurman North Thompson, 92, entered into the presence of his Savior on December 13, 2013 at his residence.  A celebration of his life will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 17 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel with Pastor Dallas George officiating.  Interment will be at Guilford Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson was born in Rock Hill, SC to the late Robert Wesley and Sara Katherine “Katie” Stone Thompson.  Thurman served in the US Navy during WWII primarily stationed in the Pacific Theatre.  After his service he was employed with Southern Railroad as a signal maintainer and retired in 1983.   Thurman was a man of faith and has been a long time active member of New Testament Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for twenty two years and as a church trustee.  He would prepare extensively for his teachings, not just studying the Bible but researching his material to make sure he had a thorough understanding of what God wanted him to convey.  He will be remembered as the “Candy Man” to many of the children at church who could depend on him for his Werther’s candies.  Thurman loved to fishing, gardening and watching westerns.  He instilled in his children the importance of hard work and family and keeping a sense of humor through it all. 
He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Ruby Andrews Thompson; his children and their spouses, James (Zerlene) Thompson of San Antonio, TX, Pastor Ty (Lib) Thompson of Jamestown, Joli Thompson (Frank) Pegram of Greensboro, Stan (Elaine) Carter of Matthews and Gwendolyn (Nelson) Howlett of Monroe; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and nephew, Lee Joyce.  He is preceded in death by sister, Estella Joyce and two infant sisters.
