THOMASVILLE — Mary Agnes Goodman Caldwell, 85, of 808 Barnwell Street, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Thomasville Medical Center. Funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church in Linwood. Visitation will be held 30 minutes before the funeral. S. E. Thomas Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Larry Hill
CHARLOTTE — Charles Larry Hill, 74, of Charlotte passed away Nov. 4, 2013. He was born Jan. 6, 1939, in High Point, the son of the late Norman A. and Jewel Dean Hill. Larry was a 1957 graduate of High Point High School and attended Appalachian State College. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later worked for different companies over the years. Later in life, he became an entrepreneur, owning his own business. He is survived by his sons Scott Hill of Huntersville and Michael Hill (Amy) of North Port, Fla.; his grandsons, Tyler and Parker Hill, and his best friend, Nancy Williams. Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Dean Hill Williams.
Evelyn Kirkman Hill
Evelyn Kirkman Hill, 87, died at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday morning, Dec. 11, 2013. She had been in declining health for two years and suffered a heart attack with congestive heart failure on Thanksgiving evening. She was admitted to High Point Regional Hospital for treatment and then to Westwood Rehabilitation last Wednesday.
Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Randolph County, she is a daughter of the late William Kirkman and Martitia Jones Kirkman. Mrs. Hill retired from Mac Panel in 1987. Previously she had worked at Piedmont Embroidery and with her late first husband ran English Radio and Television. She enjoyed walking and traveled a lot with her second husband. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her first husband, John Grayson Bullard, in 1982 and sibling Howard Kirkman, Lloyd Kirkman, Ivan Reid Kirkman, Hazel K. Cardwell and Lake K. Lineberry.
On Aug. 24, 1985, she married Lloyd R. Hill, Sr. who survives of the home. Also surviving are one son, Michael Joseph Bullard and wife Cathy McLaughlin Bullard of High Point; two stepsons, Lloyd R. Hill, Jr. and wife Carolyn Hill of Leesburg, Va., and Carson R. Hill and wife Nancy Hill of Archdale. She is also survived by a grandson Michael Charles Bullard of Hillsville and great-granddaughter Alexandria Bullard. Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Beth Hill Sallomi and husband Dennis of San Francisco, Paige Hill of Leesburg, Va., Brian A. Hill and wife Lauren of Holly Springs and Natalie Hill Owen and husband Mike of Archdale; step-great-grandchildren, Perry and Turner Robison of Leesburg, Va., Clara, Sadie and Anna Hill of Holly Springs, Elijah and C.J. Hill of Archdale
Graveside services for Mrs. Hill will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Shives officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery.

Glenda Shoe Hill
TRINITY — Glenda Shoe Hill, 72, of Trinity, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.
Glenda was born July 27, 1941, to Ed Shoe and Thelma Hicks Shoe. A resident of this area for most of her life, she worked for many years as a sewer in local hosiery mills. On June 21, 1957, Glenda married Richard Lee Hill, who preceded her death. She was a member of Jewel Baptist Church. Above all Glenda loved her grandbabies. In addition to her parents and husband, Glenda is predeceased by son, Christopher Hill; daughter, Janie Sue Wright; and brothers, P.T. and David Shoe.
Glenda is survived by son, Michael Hill of Trinity; daughter Rosa Curol and husband Richard of Thomasville; sister, Phyllis Hill of Trinity; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Springfield Friends Meeting with pastor Amos Mashburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

John James Koehne
HIGH POINT — John James Koehne, 93, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Pennybryn at Maryfield nursing home with his wife by his side holding his hand. He died peacefully with the cross he received from Padre Pio around his neck, his rosary in his hand and the American flag draped over his legs. John was a decorated bomber pilot during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. His plane was shot down over Germany during a mission. He survived the crash and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He served his country and God, and he lived his life with great honor, dignity and pride. He will be greatly missed. John was a contract negotiator for the Navy and Marines. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife Julia of the home; his children, Judy, Michael, Patrick, Barbara; step-daughters, Elizabeth Guecia and Carolyn Sweeney; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Timothy.
The family would like to send their gratitude and thanks to the sisters and nursing staff of Maryfield for their prayers, love and care of John.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic in High Point, with a visitation one hour prior at the church.

Mason Wilson Lingerfelt
BELMONT — Mason Wilson Lingerfelt, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born in Gaston County on Oct. 11, 1927, a son of the late John Dewey Lingergelt, Sr. and Beulah Roper Lingerfelt.
Mason was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the American Legion and member of East Belmont Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie Morgan Lingerfelt; children Mason Keith Lingerfelt and wife Kathy of Gastonia, Steven Lingerfelt of High Point, Cindy L. Washam and husband David of Belmont, brothers Truett Lingerfelt and wife Peggy of Belmont, Don Lingerfelt and wife Bradine of Mt. Holly; grandchildren Matt, Justin and Alex Lingerfelt, Erin and Ben Washam; great-granddaughter Ella Kate Lingerfelt and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers J.D. Lingerfelt, Jr., Torrence, Paul and Coyte Lingerfelt and granddaughter Jana Michelle Lingerfelt.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at East Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until noon, prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Angela Reid Ramirez
WINSTON-SALEM — Mrs. Angela Reid Ramirez, 51, a former resident of High Point, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following several years of declining health.
Angela was born in High Point, Nov. 5, 1962, a daughter of the late Thomas Marion Reid and Laura Lorese Teal Reid. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandson. Angela attended Bales Chapel Wesleyan Church, and she was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Teal.
Surviving are her husband, Martin Ramirez of the home; a daughter, Faren Speight of East Bend; a son, Landon Speight and wife Shelby of Kernersville; a grandson, Jackson Speight; two brothers, Thomas Reid and wife Cindy of Jamestown and Jeffrey Reid of Winston Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Angela’s life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by pastor Carl Pulliam. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service. Annie Simmons Sapp
Mrs. Annie Simmons Sapp, 75, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. She was born March 4, 1938, in Guilford County, the daughter of the late Alex and Lousie Davis Simmons.
She was married to William Sapp until his passing. Annie was employed with Florence Elementary School for many years as a teacher. After retirement in 1999, Annie, known as “Gam-maw,” was devoted to her family, and she especially delighted in her grandchildren’s accomplishments. She was a member of Foster Grove Baptist Church. Annie had a passion for “Jeopardy,” “Wheel of Fortune,” crossword puzzles and growing her vegetable garden.
Those preceding her in death include her husband; parents; two brothers, Leroy and Howard Simmons; two nieces, Carolyn and Latoya Simmons; nephew, Dennis Simmons.
She leaves precious memories to her son, Stephfone and his wife Jackie Sapp of High Point; her daughter, April Sapp of High Point; 12 grandchildren; and a host nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Annie’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Living Water Baptist Church with minister Timothy Simmons, eulogist. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Friends are welcome to join the family at their home located at 3915 Walden Court.

Aleisha Jo Swims
THOMASVILLE — Ms. Aleisha Jo Swims, 29, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Aleisha was born on Sept. 10, 1984, in Mercer County, W. Va., to George Aaron Swims and Donna Phillips Swims. She enjoyed listening to her country music and loved eating with her family. Aleisha was preceded in death by her father, George Aaron Swims; brother, Donnie Aaron Swims; and her grandparents, Juanita and Eli Phillips, Jr.
Surviving are her mother, Donna P. Swims of Thomasville and her stepfather, Mike Wood, also of Thomasville; brothers, Brandon Hall and Doug Hall; sister, Georgetta Alvarez and her husband Tony; stepsister, Nicole Rose and her husband Jamie and their boys, Brian and Cory; stepbrother, Michael Wood and his wife Christa and their children; and two nephews, Anthony and Nicholas. Aleisha is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Aleisha’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, with the Rev. Larry Hagerman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
