TRINITY — Glenda Shoe Hill, 72, of Trinity, died Friday, December 6, 2013. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Springfield Friends Meeting. HOLDEN BEACH — John Michael Powell Senior, 83, of Holden Beach, NC, serenely entered into his heavenly home on December 7, 2013. He is survived by his Wife- Barbara Powell, Brother-Joe Powell, Children- Susie Powell, Becky Powell, Tammy Powell Lamb, Gailey Powell, and John Powell II. Grandchildren- Johnathan Robertson, Cassie Powell-Adam, and Farrah Lamb. Great-Grandchildren- Bensley Adam and McKayla Robertson. Step-Children- Doug Adams, Marsha Hale, Teresa Cipolla, and Rhonda Mallery. Step Grandchildren- Shawn Adams, Corey Ramsey, Andy Burkett, and Lane Burkett.
John was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 20, 1930, to the late Mike and Martha Powell; He joined the Air force the age of 17. First Master Sargent Powell was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. During his time enlisted he was decorated with six medals of Honor while receiving his College Degree in English. Serving an honorable 23 years John retired as a Flight Engineer; then became the Owner and Operator of several Texaco Stations and A-1 Towing Service in the High Point and Thomasville area. John had many friends and never met a stranger; he was dedicated to his family, work, and loved our country. He enjoyed keeping up with politics and the world news. He was an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and appreciated living a Christian way of life. He was liked, loved, and respected by all. He will be sorely missed.

WINSTON-SALEM — Lucy Pauline “Polly” Lawson, of Winston-Salem died early Tuesday morning. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Linville Forest Church of Christ in Kernersville. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.
High Point — Grace Ardella Shipton went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2013. She passed away at Westchester Manor. Grace was born to Luther and Tessie Archer on August 27, 1925. She married Raymond A. Shipton on December 23, 1946. There will be a visitation with family and friends on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service on Lexington Ave, in High Point. Graces burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Va. where her husband is also buried. In lieu of sending flowers, the family ask that you make donations to the Guilford County Animal Shelter on Wendover Ave. in memory of Grace Shipton.
John James Koehne
HIGH POINT — John James Koehne, 93, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Pennybryn at Maryfield nursing home with his wife by his side holding his hand. He died peacefully with the cross he received from Padre Pio around his neck, his rosary in his hand and the American flag draped over his legs. John was a decorated bomber pilot during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. His plane was shot down over Germany during a mission. He survived the crash and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He served his country and God, and he lived his life with great honor, dignity and pride. He will be greatly missed. John was a contract negotiator for the Navy and Marines. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife Julia of the home; his children, Judy, Michael, Patrick, Barbara; step-daughters, Elizabeth Guecia and Carolyn Sweeney; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Timothy.
The family would like to send their gratitude and thanks to the sisters and nursing staff of Maryfield for their prayers, love and care of John.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic in High Point, with a visitation one hour prior at the church.

THOMASVILLE — Karol Hilliard Burleson, of Thomasville, passed away Monday evening.
She was born to the late Mack and Mary Reece Hilliard, January 7, 1953, in High Point, NC. She graduated from Ragsdale in Guilford County. She married John Douglas Burleson on June 26, 1971.
Karol worked as a book keeper for many years, but she was primarily a dedicated stay at home mother. She loved long car rides with audio books and coffee with her husband, painting, being warm in cold rainy weather, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and the ocean. She had an amazing sense of humor and an unwavering optimistic outlook. She took great comfort in her faith and always had an appropriate Bible verse for any situation at the ready.
Karol will live on in the hearts of her husband JD Burleson; two sisters: Nan, her husband Bill Treat and Meria, her husband Michael Howard; three children: Sheila, her husband Patrick Breese, and their children Tyler, Adam and Logan; Chad, his wife Pam Bradford, and their daughter Zoe; Wesley, and his wife Nikki Kinnamon. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Hilliard.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 14 at 2 p.m. in the J C Green & Sons Chapel located in Thomasville. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Thomasville — Mrs. Bonnie Kay Snider Jones, 69, a resident of Duke St., died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on May 28, 1944, in Davidson County, NC to Virginia Briles Snider and the late Jesse Gray Snider. She was a bookkeeper for over 50 years and former vice president of the Davidson County Genealogical Society.
On June 18, 1966, she married Jeremy Copeland (Jerry) Jones, who survives of the home; also surviving are two sons, Ben C. Jones of Lexington and James G. Jones of Thomasville; her mother, Virginia Briles Snider of Thomasville; daughter-in-law, Julie Jones of Winston-Salem; and twin granddaughters, Megan and Melissa Jones of Winston-Salem.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Rusty Sieck officiating. Linda Mae Robinson Gilchrist
HIGH POINT — Linda Mae Robinson Gilchrist, daughter of mother Willie Mae Robinson and the (late) deacon George S. Robinson Sr., was born on Oct. 12, 1949, in Richmond County. She was called by God to her heavenly home on Dec. 6, 2013, in High Point, N.C. She was preceded in death by one infant sister, Dorothy Ann Robinson, and by her father, George S. Robinson Sr.
Left to cherish her memories include her loving husband of 32 years, Steven Gilchrist of the home; her mother, Willie Mae Robinson of Ellerbe; her daughter, Dorothy (Louis Sr.) Powell; her sons, Willie Mears and William Mears Sr.; five grandchildren, Veronica Powell, Shanice (Joshua) Simms, Louis Powell Jr., Ariel Baxley and William Mears Jr.; one great-grandchild, Alyna Powell; her six sisters, Joyce Ann Wall, Georgia Lucealus Robinson (Gene) Williams, Rachel Robinson Bryant, Rosa Marie Robinson James, Clarice Yvonne Robinson and Norma Jean Robinson Terry; her three brothers Dr. George S. Robinson Jr., James Adam Robinson, Charles Edward Robinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles (Tammy) Gilchrist, Gina Gilchrist, Darlene Gilchrist, Linda (Benjamin) Bethea, Kathy (Herman) Wallace and Ronnie (Lajeune) Gilchrist. Linda also leaves to cherish her memory: aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host other special relatives and friends.
Linda attended and graduated from Mineral Springs School in Ellerbe, N.C. She furthered her education with The Jobs Corps program and Guilford Technical Community College, studying in the pharmaceutical medication program. At a young age, she dedicated her life to Christ and joined St. Luke Freewill Baptist Church. She was a member of the Twilight Gospel Singers choir and participated in the youth church activities.
Funeral services will be held at St. Luke Freewill Baptist Church in Ellerbe, N.C., at 2 p.m. Saturday. Family visitation is from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Polly Pritchett Kenerley
Thomasville — Mrs. Polly Pritchett Kenerley of Thomasville peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Greensboro, NC to Ernest Miller Pritchett and Cratie Irene Dick Pritchett. Enamored by a fashionable dresser from Thomasville, NC she married Wade Edgar Kenerley and spent the next 37 years as a loving wife and accompanied him on his fishing trips. She was one of the original members of Memorial United Methodist Church dedicating many hours as a Sunday School teacher, creator of the acolyte program, Cub Scout Den mother, Brownie leader, member of a church circle, office volunteer, worship service greeter and helping stitch the needlepoint kneeling pads. As an employee of Wachovia Bank & Trust, she was always ready with a smile, kind words, and helpful assistance. Upon retirement in 1983, she received a bicycle that she enjoyed and rode a lot. She kept busy traveling, visiting Australia, New Zealand, and Europe to experience new cultures and sights and visiting her son and his family in Texas. Never one to be without a hobby, she enjoyed bridge, gardening (especially her rose bushes), puzzles, reading, cooking, and needlework. Her family will always remember her delicious fried chicken, beef tips, and pimento cheese. Her grandchildren were a twinkle in her eye. They learned to ride bicycles, build wooden railroads, never fear snakes, find adventures in the woods and creeks, and drink coca-colas from glass bottles. She is survived by a daughter, Laraine (Scottie) Todd and her husband John of Thomasville; a son, Charles Kenerley and his wife Ree, of College Station, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Todd and his wife Stephanie, Beth Todd, Kyle Kenerley and Alec Kenerley; a great-grandson, Banks Todd. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Thomasville City Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Ivan H. M. Peden and the Rev. Peggy A. Finch. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of service.
